Chiefs to help the DEC curb cannabis cultivation, trafficking

Share

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has engaged traditional leaders in its efforts to curb cannabis cultivation and trafficking.

DEC Public Relations and Press Liaison Officer Rosten Chulu told ZANIS in an interview that a sensitization drive for chiefs has since been launched.

Mr. Chulu said workshops and other platforms would be employed to urge traditional leaders to encourage farmers in their respective chiefdoms to grow food crops and cash crops instead of cannabis.

Mr. Chulu said the response from Chiefs in various provinces is overwhelming.

He pointed out that the commission has managed to apprehend people who grow cannabis because most chiefs are able to inform the commission of the people in their respective chiefdoms who were growing the illicit drug.

He explained that the commission decided to arrest the situation starting with the rural areas as this was where the cannabis were being grown and letter transported to urban areas for sell.

Mr. Chulu however said there was still a lot that needed to be done for the mindset of the people to change as they have grown cannabis for a long time and considered the act to be normal and legal.

  1. Hey cannabis is a natural plant and there is a huge market in Europe for it, why don’t we grow it for the export market. Who is supposed to grow this so called legal medicinal use of cannabis. Lets just commercialize the industry and export the stuff to where it is legal. There is a lot of forex to be earned.

And you you so called holy people out their know that beer has caused more trouble and evils in our society that this DOBO. And don’t call what God created evil.

  2. Legalize it, don’t criticize it. Why can the Dutch and certain Americans smoke it legally and it doesn’t even grow in their countries? We could make big money from exports. Chamba ni chamba…

  3. Legalize it, don’t criticize it. It is better for your health than alcohol. Also hemp can be made into thousands of products.

It is a crime that people are forced to use cotton, when hemp is far more environmentally friendly, whearas cotton uses 25% of all agricultural chemicals used worldwide. You can make rope, clothes, food (seeds), biofuel and much more out of hemp.

So if anyone is looking for a way to stimulate the economy – Legalize Hemp.

  4. How could they when they are the ones on the forefront of taking it.PLAN while others are playing.

    STUDY while others are sleeping.

    DECIDE while others are delaying.

    PREPARE while others are daydreaming.

    BEGIN while others are procrastinating.

    WORK while others are wishing.

    SAVE while others are wasting.

    LISTEN while others are talking.

    SMILE while others are frowning.

    COMMEND while others are criticizing.

    PERSIST while others are quitting

  5. It is mighty strange that the people that want it to be legalized are forgetting cannabis has side effects. Side effects like Paranoia, schizophrenia, hallucinations, memory loss and many more.Zambia is already on a downhill spiral with morals and convention , yet theres people that are in support of cannabis. Cannabis has already shown you what it can do with street kids, kaponya’s , chiluba and the rest of the gleaming examples. I think the people that want it to be legalized are just going through a second childhood influenced by reggae music and need to grow up

  6. Cut yuh boombaklaat air bwoi. One load of irie in mi chalwa and mi give thanks & praises to the most high Jah.Dunt burn it down, it’s the healing of the nation.Jah!!Rastafari….

  8. #12 Banton those kids are high on glue from Shoprite, also on Powrrs #1 etc. in the ka plastic – should those be made illegal?

  9. #17 is glue a natural growing substance or is it not synthetically made . Cannabis and glue are different because one is natural and dangerous while the other is not natural , dangerous and was made for a purpose .

  10. DEC officers in the provincial or municipal police services do not have the necessary financial, human or technical resources to curb narcotics trafficking as well as dealing with simple possession offences. All too often, possession cases are discovered accidentally in the course of other police investigations or surveillance activities over several months, resulting in a discriminatory application of the law. I however, feel that the involvement of chiefs won’t help much as they are the major culprits.

  11. #23 ba Banton we export tobacco. That is much more dangerous than chamba (from researched scientific facts). Of course chamba can cause prblems, in the same way as beer or genetics can, but why single it out for banning? It’s an imposed European law (and more recently the US “War on drugs”) which Zambia is being incentivised tio follow

  12. It is only Lastamen(zambian rastas) that want it legalized. Ask yourself what good have those lastamen done apart from providing homes for lice in their dreads. There seems to be an epidemic of being jafaicans in zambia . Cannabis has brught more problems than good , it is the reason why you have lazy teenages acting like buffoons in zambia. Instead of pushing for a known drug why don’t you become patriotic and start pushing for Fwaka Yamu mpuno .

  13. #27 Does tobacco give mental problems? tell me one person that is paranoid and schizophrenic and lazy. I doubt your scientific facts because they are just hearsay thats unfounded. How can cannabis be part of EU law it is still classed as a drug.

  14. #30 tobacco doesn’t give mental problems, it gives fatal cancer, heart attacks, strokes, emphysema etc. – I would rather have mental problems, thanks. In Amsterdam you can walk into a bar, buy cannabis from the barman, and sit and smoke it with your beer. Some parts of Denmark too I believe, and I think in Maine USA it is not a criminal offence although I could be wrong on that one.

  15. Cannabis also gives cancer, emphysema and also gives heart attacks so you come full circle on your own argument. Cannabis has the same disadvantages as smoking plus tonnes more, comparing cannabis and tobacco is like comparing wine coolers to kachasu with cannabis being the latter. If it’s legal in denmark that would explain why denmark has the biggest red light district, seedy underworld and lousy architecture.

  16. Just open a ‘red light district’ and legalize the stuff. Dobo is good medication…If a white man can legalize it, who are we??

  17. First imwe guys, ndiye chamba ichi chili pa picture apa? why cant Zed as a country grow it on a large scale and export it to Jamaica? i hear its very expensive and very much on demand. The government can benefit ka.

  18. Sure and that would explain why Holland and Denmark give Zambia so many millions of dlooars in development assistance, because they are so messed up

  19. “Mr. Chulu said workshops and other platforms would be employed to urge traditional leaders to encourage farmers in their respective chiefdoms to grow food crops and cash crops instead of cannabis.”

Is this a way of making more money from the poor Zambian Citizen tax payers as individuals at DEC? Just do your job instead of expanding the base of wasting National Resources in terms of money.

  20. #38, Shalapungu Banton,

your so called masters have done studies on chamba/dobo and found that small quantities of the stuff is good for health. It has nothing to do with slavery. Stop taking the panados, anti-biotics etc or less you become a slave again…

  21. #47 I use common sense unlike you I don’t look at muzungu’s and think just because they do it then I should copy it. Muzungu’s say homosexuality is okay too are you going to copy them and start sleeping with the same sex despite having prolapses?? And for your own information medicine was first deveoped in africa so before you credit a muzungu learn your history , miseducated chap

  22. #28 Shalapungu Banton you usually have some good points but I don’t agree with you here.
I wanted to explain why but LT has blocked my comments. Now I’m too tired to write all over again…I’m outta here. Cheers:-h

  23. THERE IS A SAYING!!

    “I C H I M B W I CHAITILE MPASHI; NOKUBUBA SHAMUBUBA”

AWE MWAILETELELA BA LT WITH THIS THREAD!!

  24. #49 Shalapungu Banton

You are missing my point. I said your so called masters did some scientific studies and smaller quantities of dobo is good for health. I did not talk about gaysism, homosexuality and like the like. What studies can be carried out on such things? You appear to be angry with something. Please do not vent it on me. The credit crunch has affected me as welll. Good day…

  25. ha ha ah ha .you guys your comments are so interesting but cant say much coz i only know of hair food and hair fertilizer thats made out of it,maybe it would benefit the country but mmmhhhmmmm people would be going crazy coz consuption would be so high elo abaiche kulapenafye kanshi…

  26. A study among Zion Coptics showed that their I.Qs increased after smoking the herb.Babylon know this.It is a thousand times better than utujilijili.

  27. # 49 and #55 Please read the headline properly!! It does not mention anything about YAKUMBUYO!!! [-x[-x[-x[-x[-x[-x[-x[-x[-x[-x

  28. #55 This is where your common sense fails. cannabis is good in small quantities so it is okay? Well guess what Cocaine is good in small quantities as well in fact it was used in health drinks and by dentists not long ago, so if we use your logic here cocaine should be legalized too [-( . Nobody takes cannabis in small amounts for the simple fact people get habits and take it often hence making it impossible to take small amounts. Expecting somebody to take cannabis in small amounts is the same as leaving a starving somalian at a buffet and only expext him to eat a chicken wing.

  29. If you think cannabis is so good , give it to your daughter or son and see what happens . I guarantee you your son will be on the chilenje kamwala route as a conductor or your daughter will be dancing for chibuku at mutendere market.

  30. #60 Shalapungu Banton,

I agreed with you there. Small quantities are good but if one pushes it to the edge then it becomes a problem. People should know their limits. Why did you want to attack me on homosexuals? That is a subject for another day…

  31. #62, Shalapungu Banton

I take it in small quantities and it has no harm on me. As for my son or daughter, they are still young hence too early to tell…

  32. Hey, since chibwabwa is seasonal and ganja is all year round, legalise it. After all it will help ease our frustrations pa Zed

  33. 52. Nine Chale on your “28 Shalapungu Banton you usually have some good points but I don’t agree with you here”, I assure you that you will read more of funny stuff from Banton (LLB).

    Later for ntawi wakwana.

  34. No girls on this thread ka! so men are the culprits when it comes to %%-. Dont shower me with insults am only joking![-o<

  35. now I know the champs on this blog who smoke weed. Hey, be careful, that things makes you think you are >-) when actually you are:(|). Lets wait and :-b

  36. Marijuana in which ever form is bad. the people of zambia especially in the villages do grow it and the police knows about it. I recall as a small person, my grandfather would go behind the the house and smoke this and believe me he never ate anything but managed to LIMA a very big area. so in short this chanba is a good medicine for others but can be harmsful. So the govt should put a clear mark whether chamba or no chamba. Politicians like……. use it daily so what are telling the world. By the way its very popular, imagine the RSA airlines cabin crew members have today been arrested in the UK for pushing in 3 bags of canabis, so you see how popular it is.

  37. this blog is full of %%- consumers. Please take :-t on the weed thing before it ruins your life. and start behaving like ~X(

  38. Chamba is good stuff guys. Although health effects on the body are thought to be similar to that of tobacco use, studies have yet to show a link with lung cancer and other negative effects of tobacco use. This could be attributed to both the chemical makeup of marijuana and the way in which marijuana is smoked. Puff, puff pass. It is just two pulls and you pass to your neighbour…puff, puff, pass…puff, puff, pass…puff, puff, pass…

  39. Sony Ericsson Phiri

I had sensed that you are a dagga smoker. I wish I had told you before. I was just being over cautious in case my intuition was wrong. No wonder yaba.

  40. i ,Chamba master, have gone to smoke the herb.More fire!! and Jah blessings.%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-%%-

  41. ESK

You are right he smoked more than just chamba, but that does’nt make it right. Another clue for the popularity of certain Zambian politicians among a certain class eh.

  42. Mbanje smoking is probably the biggest reason why most rasta’s are delusional and worship a corpse as the lion of judah.

  43. %%- and :o) and ~o) are lubricants of civilisation. they are potency drugs too. Fellow women try them an hour before!!

  44. Nine Chale why are you ignoring the Prof. Wangozi? The man really wants people to talk to. I saw on the other side he was trying to talk to Baby C. Very funny. :d:d

  45. #91, Baby C,

I am not sure about its effect on hair growth. Why do you want to know, if you dont mind my asking?

I am aware DOBO has been shown to be beneficial to help certain people deal with complications of treatment for cancer and HIV/AIDS. It also can be useful in dealing with chronic pain.

  46. I know one chap here in the village who has lost his nuts because of this chamber. I first picked it from his unusual apetite. This chap could literally eat a whole goat on his own.

  47. :-b research has shown that cannabis (marijuana) is NOT a harmful & addictive drug (like cocaine, heroin etc). If anything, it ACTUALLY has medicinal properties to treat numerous ailments, hence it’s legal use in ‘controlled quantities’ by several western countries. In Netherlands, it’s even legalised for recreational use. However, our overzealous DEC seem to get ‘erections’ everytime they nab some poor peasant in Chadiza innocently cultivating this wonderful ‘herb’.

    #91 Baby c,

    afternoon,

we proved it in the laboratories that its very good for growth of hair,it has a very powerful hormonal character in that area, try it you wont go wrong, but careful dear…

  49. #97 haha na mutu onse anadya, sana chaya che barrbeque na candle

Thats the strange thing about weed heads, they are always weirdo’s but they are the only ones that seem not to know this. When talking about cannabis , it’s as if they are talking about a just cause. I have known a lot of weed smokers in my life and i can attest to you weed has no benefits .

  50. $-) we should LEGALIZE the herb just like Netherlands. We’ll have so many tourists flooding our gates that the dollars will overflow. Sadly, I don’t see this happening due to religious brainwashing by some western hypocrites (who they themselves, enjoy the ‘herb’). Afterall, my bemba cousins & their ancestors historically used this herb to help their men’s stamnina when cultivating their fields! Oh black man, how so easily you’re misled by MUZUNGU, you mental SLAVE you…

  51. #97 ha ha the guy lost his nuts? :)) it’s true smoking in large quatities is bad for the brains but that doesn’t mean the cops should waste time and money chasing people, it will never work

  52. that’s why they legalised in Holland, so they could concentrate state funds and time on more serious problems like heroin – it’s a matter of putting the herb in perspective

  53. Jamaco

Sure, this chap has unusual strength for that matter especially after taking the staff, a balangombe of some kind. He can literally carry a whole cow on his head, you should see him do it supported on lean legs.

The other day he walked up to me and said tha he was no feeling well.

    After asking him why he started to explain;

” I dreamt that a stranger came to my house and asked to take a ride with him. We drove towards a forest and the car stopped. This guy told me to come out & he gave me a spade. He told me to start digging.I was instructed to pull out the stuff I had found while digging. I then pulled with all my ernegy. I pulled and started sweating”…
AND THEN???”Thank God I woke up otherwise I would have pulled my own nuts off” ~X(

  60. I thought it was the ghosts that manifested themselves to people 😮 Unless I am a ghost is that what Anonymouse is saying 😕

  61. those looking for hair products, try JEBBA from Ghana and also Indian Hemp. Locals also make the concotion using chamba. i hear it releaves so much pressure in the head and makes one feel freshen. Kaya but i use Jebba or Indian Hemp, its complete in the Chemists in town (Lusaka).
