President Rupiah Banda has appealed to the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) supporters to refrain from harassing people at the ongoing Tribunal investigating the conduct of Transport and Communications Minister Honourable Dora Siliya.
President Banda said the complainants and witnesses at the Tribunal should be allowed to testify without any interference so that the truth can be established.
In a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today by State House Chief Analyst for Press and Public Relations ,Dickson Jere , Mr. Banda said he does not want would-be witnesses to the Tribunal to use the presence of MMD supporters as scapegoats for failing to testify.
“Let us allow the Tribunal to conduct its work in a transparent and impartial manner. Every witness should be allowed to testify without interference from anybody,” President Banda said.
The President said he was the believer in the rule of law and therefore would not condone members of the MMD or indeed any other political party to intimidate or interfere with the ongoing Tribunal.
President Banda appealed for calm among the MMD supporters saying they should refrain themselves from harassing people, including Journalists, even when provoked. He said violence should not be condoned at any given time.

Dora should step down on moral grounds to pave way for investigation
Yes, you are right Nine, the president is on record saying Dora is doing a commendable job “Attorney General Mumba Malila strongly criticised Siliya over her decision to disregard the advice from the Solicitor General and award RP Capital of Cayman Islands a US$2 million contract to value Zamtel. But President Rupiah Banda said Siliya should be given a chance to find a strategic partner in Zamtel and that she should be congratulated for doing a commendable job.” we all know the outcome so what is the point of those investigations. We can only ever know when he is kicked out in 2011.
I dont understand why people are surprised about the president’s behaviour in dora’s case.It is very clear that he is either an accomplice or he is grossly incompetent to understand what the fuss is all about and in both cases he can be impeached.So Zambians take your pick!!!!

I totally agree with you, people dont seem to understnd the difference between a trial and a tribunal. If there was any evidence against Dora Mr harrington could have gone strait to DEC or ACC. A tribunal wll depend on evidence that citizens will give and it will use that to establish a case if any. as of today no citizen has taken any evidence to the tribunal, Mr harrington himself is asking the tribunal to compell Dora to Disclose her correspondence with RP capital basically asking Dora to give him evidence so that he can use it against her, The post is nowhere to be seen and the Civil society is still looking for a lawyer who is willing to handle the case.

Testing
The Tribunal should exercise its investigations to the fullest!! If the MMD Supporters are hindering the progress then they should be put out. These are matters of national concern and the tribunal should not be used as a center of attraction by some supporters.
Again RB I support your appeal.
My biggest worry still remains to be that of the Civil Society finding lawyers within 24 hours!!
Anyway let us wait and see.

Good point Jamaco. if there is anyone of us on this blog with evidence please take it to the tribunal instead of wasting time on the blogg. So far it seems no one has evidence thats why the civil society is struggling to find a lawyer, iam suprised that not even Membe has submitted evidence as of today, Mr Harrington is also asking evidence from Dora herself by asking for her correspondence with RP capital. If none of us is taking evidencve to this tribunal then the whole thing is witchhunting or a Fishing expedition as Lawyer Malambo has already called it.

However, the reason given by the President RB Banda are not enough and convincing. The fact of the matter here is that VIOLENCE by the MMD cadres is bad practice for our young democracy and can lead to crimes against humanity if he lets MMD cadres to continue misbehaving like that. I hope the MMD cadre thugs have taken the advice seriously.
