Zambian legal system cheers Japanese envoy

Share

THE imprisonment of prominent people in the country has helped to boost investor-confidence in the Zambian legal system, visiting Japanese envoy, George Hara has said.

Mr Hara, who is a representative of Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Microalgae Spirulina Against Malnutrition (IIMSAM), said the recent convictions of high-profile individuals indicated that Zambia’s legal system could be trusted.

Speaking in an interview in Lusaka at the weekend, Mr Hara said very few countries either developed or developing could do what Zambia had done.
Mr Hara said the investment climate in Zambia was conducive.

He said the country had huge mineral deposits such as copper, cobalt and emeralds among others, which should be fully utilised.

Meanwhile, Mr Hara has expressed interest to invest in the growing of human and animal food supplements, known as spirulina, in Zambia.

He said once approval was granted by the ministries of Heath and Agriculture and Cooperatives, experts from IIMSAM would come to the country to facilitate the growing of spirulina especially among small-scale farmers.

Mr Hara said besides being consumed in Zambia, spirulina could also be exported to markets in Japan, the European Union and the US where the commodity was on high demand.

He said spirulina had high protein content and was a strategic food product to alleviate malnutrition.

  1. Well done ba Task Force, the govt and the Zambian public.Keep it up motherland, hopefully one day we can be a middle class country and escape the third world group

  2. On “Speaking in an interview in Lusaka at the weekend, Mr Hara said very few countries either developed or developing could do what Zambia had done. Mr Hara said the investment climate in Zambia was conducive.” Thank you very much for this powerful observation. I am sure, it will give us more zeal to do a greater job on the fight against corruption.

  3. We are an independent country. I do not agree with this patronising attitude from developed countries coming to say ‘Good boy!’ These developed countries should learn to accept us as equals even though we ask for aid. We have only been around for 48 years and that is a very short time on the time scale of human and social developmental progress.

  4. As for Spirulina, you could get this in herbal and natural food supplement shops as dark green tablets. There are all sorts of claims for and against the ‘miraculous’ powers of this filamentous cyano-bacteria. Similar situation with Moringa Oleifera. Interesting thing about all this is that after years of looking down on African traditional herbal medicines, the ‘white man’ is now going back to the roots! Trouble is that for over 100 years now we have destroyed our pharmacopoeia. The guys around like Vongo have been reduced to ‘throwing bones!’ Our forefathers survived without ‘white man’s medicine.’

    • Itembusha or Aloe Vera. Even bazungu appreciate its herbal qualities and they use herbs in a lot of things except that they are purified and well packaged instead of putting roots in bottles which we drink without any dosage, LOL.

  5. I am very worried because RB and his friends want to derail the whole process by trying to fix Mutembo Job.

  6. Due process is being followed and that is great to see. The fact that bail has been granted where appropriate and legally justified is a sign of strength not weakness for the judicial system. It is high time that some forum contributers started to look beyond the mere posting of a sentence and actually read the article, form an opinion based on sound reasoning and offered some sensible grounds upon which a sensible discussion can be formulated. To merely say “but they are all on bail” as an opening remark to such an important topic is appalling unless one can further substantiate the point. Please explain why bail somehow equates immunity or acquittal.

    • Agreed. I think Zambians have always been unfair to the Judiciary in Zambia. Those men and women of the bar have always worked in the interest of justice. In our history we have had far fewer scandals involving judges and magistrates. Former CJ Ngulube was the only let down. However, the power of a case lies with the prosecution. It is obvious here that Nchito agwila nchito. I would like to start a campaign to make this young man the DPP. Anybody come along?

  7. The judges are fed up.Now they are really working Kudo’s to them, Next Dora, then NyamaSoya for crimes against humanity. Allowing wantom destruction under his nose of jobs that could have easily been protected. The hague is waiting for him. Infact let him be the 2nd sitting President after Al Bashir of Sudan to be indicted for crimes against humanity. backers are now distancing themselves i.e. Nawakwi, Teta, Mike Mulongoti, Sondashi etc.

  8. As much as we appriciate the our judges for the job well done, let us not for get that without the POST NEWSPAPER ngatatwaishiba nokuti these people stole from us……viva the post!!!!!

  9. there is still alot of em walking free dispite sum chosen few that went in & not on bails. Hope the scenes will keep others from having many corrupt ideas. We need true leaders bigtym for tha country to move forward. Gud evening to all lsk bloggers.
