Luapula province Permanent Secretary Jazzman Chikwakwa

has threatened to prosecute contractors abandoning government works.

Mr Chikwakwa said that government spent huge sums of taxpayers money to pay contractors who should do a good job for the nation to move forward in terms of development.

He warned that government would ensure that contractors who abandon works on projects awarded to them would face the wrath of the law.

Mr. Chikwakwa said this after inspecting Kanyembo clinic and Kanyembo basic school as part of his familiarization tour of Luapula province.

He said that it was a bad culture for contractors to abandon the projects without considering the beneficiaries who are the people at grass root level and tax payers.

He warned some named contractors in Lusaka would be black listed and that they would not be awarded contracts.

  1. This trend has been going on for sometime. Makes me wonder why the goverment hasnt taken any measures to address this…

  2. I think the law should be changed to imprison bogus contractors. This is obtaining money by false pretences, period and carries an imprisonment slap if proven guilty. We need to be tough on this and not just blacklist but IMPRISON. This is a scandal, a swindle.

  3. This Jazzman Chikwakwa is either the most hardworking PS or the perhaps he just likes talking to the media. He is the only PS I’ve heard of or seen doing something albeit digging/slashing some overgrown weeds!

  4. Ba Jazzman, try to hire German contracters. They never abandon their work and they do the finest job in the shortest possible time without any deficits in terms of quality, efficiency and costs.

    • Nine Chale you are not serious. Imagine a German with a Chikwakwa.
What I have noticed is that the Government (even on local level) is never taken serious. Look at the mines and the threats they are uttering.
