Zambia may not attain MDGs by 2015, says academician

Share

zedflagAn academician has observed that Zambia has slim chances of attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) on education because people have little value for education.

Great North Road Academy, Managing Director, Rozious Siatwambo, said Zambians were not willing to invest in education, a situation he said will have a negative impact in attaining the 2015 education for all goals.

Mr. Siatwambo said there was need for Zambians to seriously invest in education and not wait for government alone.

“As a country, the elusive Millennium Development Goal, one of which is education for all by the year 2015, will remain a challenge and difficult to meet unless each one of us citizens do our little bit to pay back to society and help supplement our government’s effort,” he said.

Mr. Siatwambo, who is also the author and consultant of, “Exams made Simple” book said this in Lusaka today after he donated 100 books, valued at over K5 million to the Ministry of Education.

He further said that many students were today failing their exams because they lacked certain information that could make them succeed.

He said many intelligent students were failing because they did not apply many study skills, which include time management, goal setting, and having the right altitudes which he say the book tries to highlight.[quote]

In receiving the donation of the 100 books on behalf of the Ministry of Education today, Director of Education and Specialized Services, Ruth Mubanga said her ministry has an urgent ambition and desire to promote and widen access to education.

Ms. Mubanga said this was one way government will achieve the 2015 MDGs and to particularly attain the universal education for all.

She said this has however remained a challenge which should not be left to government alone, adding that individuals and corporate entities must cooperate in delivering good education services to the country.

Ms. Mubanga has further said the 100 books will be distributed to the provincial education officers (PEOs), who will then identify the beneficiaries of the books.

  1. its not a secret that zambia will not attain 2015 MDG goals. Biggest obstacle ATTITUDE. Its the attitude of zambians that needs to be changed first. everything is centered on attitude, attitude, towards time, attitude towards sense of urgency, attitude towards hardwork, attitude towards cleaniliness, attitude towards demanding for the best. We need to get more creative and start creating wealthy within our own communities.

  2. How do you attain goals when the same pipo responsible of making this possible are busy filling their pockets with public funds and caring about the future of our country, Shame Ka

  3. Top Ten Bloggers how are you?

Who carries the responsibility to put Education at Numbala 1?

People can read books all there lives but if getting a job means being related to Mr fimo fimo, then yes people will continue seeing little value in education. Show the people that it is worth studying and becoming a Minister of Communication !!! Corruption is discouraging development and also putting education backwards.
    Clean the house first!!

  4. No value for education a basic human right is a recipe for disaster for any nation. It’s not about books or exams it’s about people are taught how to think. Theres too many disabled minds on crutches in Zambia that cannot think for themselves and expect someone to do that for them. Education should be more focused on right brain activity which is for critical thinking rather than left brain for memorizing things. Students failing to memorize does not make them not intelligent , teaching people to memorize is not education it’s miseducation.

  5. This “Ms. Mubanga said this was one way government will achieve the 2015 MDGs and to particularly attain the universal education for all” is impressive as universal education for all is far-fetched with characters like the Undereducate are not taking my advice to go back to school seriously? Grade 7 exams are around the conrner and so all those who are of age and dont have the G7 Certificate need to go sit for the exams so that they can be educated.

  6. MDG`s wont work in Zambia and other African countries because of them, the policy custodians (IMF,WB). They will never take things into the local context but would rather have western ideas as their frame of reference when making judgements. I know that Rosious is talking about classroom education which is so foreign and complicated to square into some local contexts. Its the western to determine and we forget ours and follow blindly hence seen as failures of their systems. Lets work up and uphold what is ours, let us be charged on what is ours.

  7. You tell a tree by the fruit it bears” Look at the country’s leaders, they are “petty small men” who only think of how many girls they will seduce, how many times they will harrass others.in all honesty the problem is we need new political thinkers and economic maestros who can run with the wind, the world has come round full circle, with new ideas flowing out of places previously thought of as “dead” by the west, new markets are emerging, people are clamouring for technologies,So fellow Zambians,we can only lay blame at our doorsteps,we are the ones who have to step up as the occassion has risen and it demands that we must alter the course of this ship, you see chinese are growing vegetables, and they must be amazed at our laziness with the arable land, peace natural resources we have…

  8. ATLANTA (May 29) — Scientists have identified a lethal new virus in Africa that causes bleeding like the dreaded Ebola virus. The so-called “Lujo” virus infected five people in Zambia and South Africa last fall. Four of them died, but a fifth survived, perhaps helped by a medicine recommended by the scientists.
It’s not clear how the first person became infected, but the bug comes from a family of viruses found in rodents, said Dr. Ian Lipkin, a Columbia University epidemiologist involved in the discovery.

  9. Ndola High Judge Wankie, has squashed the bail conditions meted on Roan MP Chishimba Kambwili , saying its unconstitutional for a magistrate to impose such bail conditions, the Judge has thus reduced the bail conditions to K500, 000 from K25, 000, 000 in their own cognizance. The 4 have since been released.

John Mbuzi went too far, may be directed by the MMD on the bail conditions.

  10. MGDs can and should be achieved. They can easily be achieved when,
first, the thieving MMD PSs and their ministers are removed from running the affairs of our nation,
secondly, the Leadership Code is reintroduced and ACC, DEC, Police are made to operate independently as government departments free of party influence, working without having to wait for instructions from Plot 1.
and thirdly, the Procurement Act be repealed to remove all those political appointees and ministers from the ZPPA so that it can function as a government entity and allow those ministers to concentrate on their ministerial functions and leave procurement to professionals.

This way, we may eliminate bu Njeke and direct all available resources to tangible meaningful projects.

  11. Thats why we need the UN Human Rights Convention to be implemented in full. The government has a social responsibility to educate everyone in the country more especially the children. Children under 16-18 years have a RIGHT to free education from the taxes collected by the government.
The country has more than 80% of the working population out of employment and struggling to meet the daily needs of their families. College and University fees are prohibitive and yet an educationist does not call on government to do more just because they are his major customers for the books he has authored. This is very unfair if not unreasonable.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaims that:
    Article 26.
    (1) Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the…

  12. Misappropriatin of resources is one the biggest problems our country is facing. Donhating books will not help anything at all. The criminals in govt have failed us and they are the ones hindering development in all the sectors. How do you expect to attain the MDG when all the resources have been put in the hands of criminals? Its not about the Citizens, its all about the govt’s attitude towards transperancy in their business. We the citizens have no problem but our so called leaders, babwelapofye!

  13. Whats the point of getting a degree which will never take you any where?when the politician are just grade 7s and they get more than the educated people. They get what’s due to in time but the engineers the nurses teachers they don’t even have a feel of their monies in months.Shame shame
