Civil servants appalled by 15 percent salary increment

Share

Civil Servants and allied workers union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) Kitwe main branch chairman Denny Maluti says his members feel betrayed by their national union leaders for accepting the 15 percent salary increment tabled by government.

Mr Maluti said in Kitwe that members felt that their grievances were not adequately addressed in the 15 percent agreement.

He said the Union members should stop blaming government for the inadequate increment but blame union leaders and Labour movements for not putting the interest of the members first during the bargaining process

He added that the agreement signed by the national union leaders with government should ensure all members of the union benefited fully.

Mr. Maluti further noted that there was need for unions to unite and speak with one voice when presenting three grievances to the government so as to avoid one union

He further observed that there was also need to reform and revises their constitutions in order to limit the tenure of offices for the union leaders.

Mr. Maluti said that the prolonged stay of the union leaders in their positions made some leaders start serving their interest instead of the members they represent.

He further disclosed that some union leaders did not fully understand the real situation on the ground their members were being faced with hence could not address their needs fully.

Mr. Maluti appealed to the unions to unite in future and speak with one voice and purpose.

  1. National union leaders are eating with politicians. You think they care for their members? Just look at their bellies! This is betrayal at its best. What is 15% sure?

  2. Ebwafyafye bwa ma leaders yesu when it comes to sorting out matters that are detrimental to our daily lives they always turn their fat,big backs on us.In all fairness, how can they possibly give in to that nominal increment of 15%?Honestly that is sheer stupidity and the outcome of this wil be poignant.Kanshi caba shani mwema leaders? I would rather die like a brave man than living like a coward ! Oh lord help us twacula pafula!

  3. Awe kwena bwafya! The problem with our so called union leaders is when it comes to sorting out matters that are detrimental to our daily lives they always tend to turn their fat ,big backs on us.How can they possibly give in to that nominal 15% increment?Honestly that is sheer stupidity and please pardon my indignation to say the outcome of this will be a poignant one.

    Lord help us twacula pafula!

  4. Awe mwandi! What is 15% of K1,090,000? This is inclusive of housing allowance. My maid gets K200,000 (it doenst even sustain her and wants an increament), my groceries are @ K400,000, I have four going children and 3 full orphaned going children. We need shelter, power, water, food and clothing…. etc. Awe sure! Sitting on the desk the whole day is just hard. Every minute all I think about is what we will eat, how the kids will go to school. Now I have resolted to makwebo. I have to go an extra mile to survive and try to be happy. Jobs elswhere are hard to get. No more greener pasturers. Bukapoko tabwakapwe!

  5. #6 Iwe Chachine why did you have four children? Ukutemwa ntewnekane eehhmm! Awe mwandi na government ine iwe. No recreation facilities icishele nomba recreation ni ku bedroom. lol!

  6. I think that Chachine is trying to bring to light why some Civil Servants end up stealing. the problem is Zambians are always content with themselves, the ubuntu (oneness) is not there any more. Think about the colleagues, how the survive with meagre salaries. The Government should be a listening government and be able to come up with measure to cushion our colleagues. Indeed Doctors have spent 7 years to get the skill to be able to take care of our health but today, they can only get K4.5 m and live in a compound. What a shame! Most of them available got the skill under free education and might not be able to pass down to their children for lacking of capacity. This is one of more of the reason that some Zambians have ran off to go and clean bums for a better life, than comboni life

  7. # 7 & 8. This thing is not about ukufyala or ukuchita fye. Abuntu, oneness is eroded in Zambia. That is why people are stealing in Government coufers – cos the Govt it self is full of selfish people. Most civil servants and highly educated Zambians have run off in preference to ukusuku amatako than working in the Govt Ministries – for a better and meaningful lifestyle. What makes you happy about the 15% increament that has been given to our colleagues? If i way you, i would not even LOL but sympthise. You have been gone and dont know how hard life is. Maybe that is why you are wherever you are.

  8. Number 9.Can you please shed more light on ukusuku amatako, what do you mean? I profoundly understood the message you were trying to put accross but i did not capture that one.
