Media houses urged to pay their employees adequately

Government has reiterated the need for media houses to adequately enumerate their employees.

Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha says good conditions of service help to motivate employees leading to improved productivity.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha was speaking in Lusaka today after touring the Zambia Daily Mail.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha, who is also chief government spokesperson, however expressed happiness at the conditions of service that the Zambia Daily Mail is offering to its unionized workers.

He also commended the Zambia Daily Mail management for purchasing a new printing press to improve production of the newspaper.
Lt Gen. Shiakapwasha has since urged management to improve the quality of the Newspaper.

Speaking earlier, Zambia Daily Mail Managing Director Leonard Kantumoya said plans are under way for the organization to have offices in all the country’s provinces.

Mr. Kantumoya further said the newspaper is dedicated to ensuring that developmental issues are adequately covered in the country.

And Zambia Union of Journalists (ZUJ) Secretary General Esther Mseteka urged government to consider auditing the Zambia Daily Mail.

  1. Shikas after warning the Nurses who were fighting for better salaries, today he can talk about good conditions, Mockery! Since you are a man of God, I ask God to give you wisdom from above.

  2. Iwe Shikapwasha, shut up & privatise the media in Zambia. You have Daily Mail, Times of Zambia, ZNBC, ZANA, Zambia National Information Services. Now that’s a media conglomerate which you have funded poorly but use it effectively as a propaganda tool. Why is it that in developed economies, government only develop media policy for a public broadcaster and yet poor governments like the MMD in Zed wants to run a media business it does not even understand what is involved into media production. Before you speak about wages you mights look at the media organisations you have run down from KK time to Kafupi to Cabbage & now RB a.k.a kapuba.

  3. Government should never own a media organisation. That is the problem in the developing world hence we continue to view pre-colonial programmes in the 21st century coz the Zambian government does not have money to run a media business. It’s a shame & that’s what we need to ask these chaps that want our votes what are their media plans when they come into power??? But in Zed we love corrupt politicians who buy us beer (Chibuku). We don’t love nobble leaders with integrity what a non-starter.
