President Rupiah Banda is on Saturday expected to leave for New York to attend the 64th Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

This is contained in a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Dickson Jere.

Mr Jere said the President is expected to deliver his maiden address to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly under the theme ”Effective Responses to Global crises: Strengthening Multilateralism and Dialogue among Civilizations for International Peace, Security and Development.”

He said President Banda and other World leaders will also attend a High Level Dialogue on climate change, which will assess the progress in the implementation of the programme of action and dialogue in preparation for the forthcoming Copenhagen conference on climate change.

Mr Jere further said the President and other African heads of State and Government will later travel to Caracas, in Venezuela to participate in the 2nd Africa-South American Summit.

He added that after the summit President Banda will travel to Cuba for a three-day State Visit at the Invitation of Cuban President Raul Castro Ruz.

President Banda will return to Zambia after the state visit in Cuba.

  1. I bet this man has spent more days in foreign land than in his office. I bet it was a case of I will go round the world once I am elected. There you go Zambians! Keep “aving” him! lol! He will get there and no one will even take notice of him.

  2. how much are tax payers spending on this rediculus travelling. this money can be used for other developmental programs, doesnt R.B see how developd other countries are? even countries tht were at war r now doing better than us(angoLa). by the way ba post good work on unearthing the zamtel scam

  3. Rupiah Banda and President Obama have been in office almost same period of time. Obama is busy trying to solve problem in the USA, Banda is discovering nations and has embarked on a world tour never before done by any President on this earth. What a waste of nation resources and time. Zambia, the real Africa. Even the slogan seem to confirm our nature and failures.

  4. There you go Zambians. Same old routine. Mothers will be dancing at the airport, sorry, at Lusaka International airport for him. The Veep with all cabinet ministers will be there. The road to the airport will be “closed”. Chibuku will be bought for bakabova to make it look a spectacle. The same thing for when he comes back.

  5. Ati @ the request of Raul Castro… I didn’t know Raul knew a dumbass president like ours. What exactly are there going to talk about over there, I hope he is not going to ask Cuba to come and invest in Zambia. He is focussing to much on foreign stuff that he has forgotten what the people of zambia want…

  6. I heard ati wen this dude lands at the airport and checks out another plane about to take off, he yells excitedly ati “Thats a nice lookin plane! Where’s it goin?” As he’s asking, he’s already halfway up the stairs of this plane with confused cadres who’d been dancing in welcome at the plane he just disembarked from bolting to dance in front of this new plane. Thats wat i heard….

  7. There he goes again! “kamwendo munjila”. Banda, the vice president can attend some of these meetings. Are you an expatriate president?. I ask because you hardly spend a fortnight in Zambia solving domestic issues.

  8. Come on you Diaspora in the USA, confront him and ask him why for goodness sake he is always out of the country instead of attending to various issues affecting the suffering Zedians. Is Chiluba on his delegation? I wouldn’t be surprised.

  9. cant he send an official to represent.dont we have a un representaive whose job description is to do exactly that? i hope he has been invited and not embarras himself like our late father mwanawasa did on that london visit…

  10. Some invitations can be declined mwebantu. It is not obligatory for a president to travel to the UNGA, let alone to Venezuela and Cuba. Awe bane shuwa.

  11. Attending the annual UN General Assembly is in the best interest of all nation states in the globalized world.Unless there are extenuating circumstances, this is a good and necessary fora for all heads of states and government. Zambia cannot afford to be isolationist but continue the multilateralist role in our little way.We contribute at a greater burden to the World security effort through peace keeping missions, hospitality of thousands of refugees, besides being signatories to important treaties and ratified conventions. Therefore, we have to have our head of State attend the UN GA to converse with his fellow compatriots on a myriad issues of national interest.

  12. Heee….kwena ba RB naba samwa ichine chine. Away from home for over a week doing nothing? What a president you have Zamians. A president who is on the road every time. Any way ……………

  13. Just leave him alone, he must enjoy life as a president.

It doesnt feel good to stay in a place were people are calling all different bad names like big nose, kantundila, shrek and many more.

The pact also want to be president so that they can travel and enjoy 2.

  14. RB has served as Zambia’s permanent representative to the UN and UN’s elected President for Namibia. The UN has loads and lords of his speech records. This is opportunity is no strange or difficulty for the veteran Diplomat and educated international Politics Diplomat. Zambia is not sending a novice to the World’s August house but a career Diplomat. It’s like asking Dr.Kamoyo Mwale, Hon.Vernon Johnson Mwaanga or late Clement and Luke Mwananshiku on Diplomatic missions when these are Zambia’s seasoned career diplomats. Retrieve and listen to RB and fellow Zambian career Diplomats in the US. History can never be written irrespective of jealous some Zambians naturally have. This culture of vainly belaboring without sense to pull others down only exposes mental failure of such envious…

  16. Start debating issues of national bearing than vainly belaboring to pull each other down. This is where your failure in life evidently is.If you are credible lets travel and ask the Head of state at the meet up RB will have with Zambian nationals based in the US.Lets turn up and converse with him live instead of just blogging rubbish in blog threads he has no inch of reading.

  17. #20-21. If you were in the UK you would be going free by bus! You wouldn`t be here writing tripe like you do. But then again you are Zambian! lol.

  18. # 23, Swallow a bitter pill, the UN has loads and loads of RB speeches in contributions while yours is daily spewing garbage in garbage out in threads without a clear purpose in life.Reflect and take tough questions, what have you gained 2 years of blogging insults 24/7.Have you realized any political realignment, dislocation, obliteration or policy? if not, then who is your target audience and at what dividend?

  19. #24 Senior Citizen. What has RB got to do with what I said about you? Yet again you are proving you are supposed to be enjoying free rides instead of spouting tripe on here. The time you get off your high horse, the time you take off those rose tinted glasses is when you will realise how pathetic and despicable your Kanitundila is. 72 and counting! Savour the moment.

  20. ok this is a good chance for him to meet us new york based bloggers. As New york zambian association am told by our secretary that the association have already made a list of things we want to present to Mr RB about his governamnce and leadering zambia. I hope he will pick one or two important things and i hope he would also get some inspirations from Obama

  21. RB on the move…anyway what can we say. This man is on an expedition or something.Globe trotting to the max…ichimona *fyolas*

  22. # 26, You and all US based bloggers here planning attendance of the RB meetup should kindly put on your blogging name tags so that we may see and measure each others off the virtual world. Some of us will document in camera your questions and upload them on Youtube for other bloggers then post access details right here. With three other friends we are leaving our state tomorrow to join many other Zambian patriots who are going to receive our head of state H.E President Banda and his entourage. We will attend the meetup and ask the President candid questions. Please don’t forget your name tags on.

  23. what do you expect from a sleeping president?traveling and eating for sure.time will come when RB will have to account for everything. We are watching and dont think as military men we are happy

  24. As Zedians we must demand a report on how much these trips are costing the few tax payers.????

Someone tell me how “small” his entourage is?

Am sure the cost would pay for all linens and drugs in most if not ALL medical facilities !!!

  25. People, chill! Travelling is not really as expensive as you may think. I know some avarage German citizens who tour the world every year and they dont even earn much, how much more a Head of State? What should worry us most is the future of our country and how we are going to bring about positive development to our country – with or without RB.

  26. Senior Citizen, you really seem delusional in your bureaucratic jargon. Wake up sir!

What is your point and who are you protecting?

Read between the line monsieur! Don’t just sit there constructing sentences to make yourself feel good. Zambians have a real concern about RB’s global trotting, not just this trip.

    Need I say more?

  27. Guys the problem is we have a political party and its members that are finished and need to step aside. This is the only way out of this problem for mother Zambia. They have done their part, let them step aside. Too much of anything is bad. I hope when voter registration start we will all go in numbers and register for the coz. Its only a few connected people holding all of us 12+ people to ransom. Very unacceptable.

  28. Allow me to describe our friend Senior Citizen! He or she is part of the few connected people who think this country is theirs. Ba Senior Citizen, i can assure you that one day the people of Zambia will rejoice. Watch this space

  29. RB is not going to see girl friends. He is on an unavoidable international duties. He deserves to be there. Even if it were the unlearned Micheal Sata or the on POLIO drugs politicians HH, this trip was going to be undertaken. May be the Cuba one was going to be avoided because of differences in ideologies of our politicians. Do not critisize unnecessarily. It is like being absent from a final exams in the Degree course and you expected to be awarded 1. What sh!t is coming from u PF cadres kanshi?

  30. I will give Senior Citizen and his boss some lectures on governance once in NY. RB is one guy who makes a stop-over in Angola when flying to Ethiopia! If elected leaders, as recruited managers understand it in the corporate world, exist to create value on behalf of somebody (shareholders), then I wonder what meaningful thing RB has done for the electorate

  31. Ka chance ka Global trotting. When he was Vice he only used to travel when Levy was not feeling well. I only hope the visit to Cuba will not make us enermies of US.

  32. Within the first year of his tenure Mwanawasa had visited 17 countries and by his death 61 with 103 international trips all seeking infestors to come and leave craters in our land. This was all when at UNZA we were sleeping and graduating from roof tops with Hospitals dry of medicine. He talking about irrigation winter maize from day one with sikata until his death in the seventh year. The highest copper boom ever seem but without social change to the country except family tree. What infrastructure, scientific, industrial or medical research development can we look at to remember Levy for if not just empty craters in our soil? Did he create jobs?

  33. #32 you are correct someone needs to carry out a Cost Benefit Analysis on these trips, how many trips have been carried out, were they manadatory or could they have been delegated, what measurable impacts have they cvontributed to Zambia in comparison to the dollar amounts spent. How much each trip costs this includes allowances etc.On the speech concerning Effective Responses to Global crises:Strengthening Multilateralism and Dialogue among Civilizations for International Peace, Security and Development,Does Zambia really qualify on addressing this, when it has failed to address it’s own effective responses to the Global crises. Dambisa Moyo is right about these workshops all talk ,more expenses and no effective action.

  34. i would like to hear RB’s address to the UN general assembly. this is likely to be the funniest address ever by a zambian president.

  35. This guy has scrapped windfall tax. Can you imagine? Mwanawasa fought tooth and nail to get it. He is daring us. In doing so he is ruining our country. Let me not say what I think about him else I’ll be arrested for life.

  36. Yes if I was president I would fly the world too. But afterward I would cry about having not done anything for the country which entrusted it’s hopes and desires on me. Shame on RB. There are smarter people than him around the country.

  37. Imwe RB will be on duty. It’s his duty as Head of State to attend such functions. The only reason he has to travel out is because such functions are held in foreign land. He simply has no choice. All we can ask is that he articulates Zambia’s situation at such gathering, which am sure he is capable of doing as a former diplomat. Travel well RB.

  38. I support #33, 34, 40 & 51. There are certain functions of the Presedent which you cannot do without like the one he is performing now. He has to visit countries. The only issue we should emphasis is that he should aticulate Zambia’s development needs whereever he goes. We put him in as present and therefore we must fund his trips. Issults will not help our country develop. Lets minimise issults and concentrate on issues that will help develop our country. Bravo all contributors.
