Vice President George Kunda has directed the MMD youths on the Copperbelt to be vibrant and defend their national leaders.
Mr. Kunda made the pronouncement yesterday when he led the MMD Copperbelt Card renewal exercise at Lowenthal Theater Hall.
Mr. Kunda said the MMD wanted a very strong youth wing capable of defending the President, his cabinet and the party from critics.
He said it was the duty of the youths to answer to those that were insulting the president and his cabinet.
“We want a very strong youth wing, we want a youth wing that can defend the party and the president. Those insulting the President must be answered by the youth wing, don’t let the President answer, its your duty as youths to defend the president,” he said.
The Vice President further directed all MMD party members to recruit members from other political parties to join the MMD.
He said Copperbelt was critical to the party and that his party wanted by all means to regain its strength in the province.[quote]
“Copperbelt is critical to our party, we want you to explain the good policies of this government to the people so that Copperbelt will slowly be a stronghold for MMD,” he said.
Mr. Kunda directed that, following the card renewal exercise at Lowenthal theatre, MMD members in all the districts in the province must renew their cards.
The Vice President further explained that the cards renewal exercise was delayed countrywide, due to the illness and subsequent death of the former President Dr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa and the economic global crisis.

The UPND-PF Pact has come with tremendous unannounced disputes, differences and deep degrees of alienation between the proponents of different party politics approaches in UPND. Just like the case of Major Chizyuka and fired UPND Secretary General Kahaye have shown, there has been no initiative for a process of serious consensus or dialogue in UPND moves under IChilema irrespective of evidence at hand that UPND has a membership with dangerous differing positions on events. There are spectacular discords in language and symbols. There are no substantial similarities in the core interests, political philosophy and at the policy level. Ichilema is just bluffing as a desperado chasing for power without principles.
Notwithstanding all grave differences the similar problem constellations in the anti-Pact and indeed dominant dissimilarities in their interpretation of basic values such as national unity, and inter-party democratic peace theories in a stable democracy as Zambia, peace justice and national unity other than the pyramid based unholy tribal alliances of HakaSata make for a substantial convergence in the approach of necessary popular Social and moral Democracy in UPND. The many issues under discussion are the same everywhere in the party structure that Ichilema has sold out UPND to Kaponyalism of Sata and must be kicked out to join PF alone. Such statements and speeches need to be recorded for future references. Infact people need to produce a documentary of this current leadership from the Campaign period till the 2011 election period . This should be played back to the electorate, just like they do in the developed countries. Speeches can be uploaded on youtube and documentaries can be produced by gathering the recorded audios and videos .

It is disgraceful that a supposedly educated man and Vice President of our country can make such a call. If he has any shame at all, he should resign or be removed from office by his boss. If his boss was a true President and had the interests of ALL Zambians at heart, he would not tolerate such talk. We, MMD members, in districts and provinces NEED a convention before 2011 to elect our leaders and appraise our manifesto in readiness for 2011 elections. One thing for sure is that most NEC members are not performers, as an indicator, you have failed to raise funds for a convention which is a very important item in our democratic dispensation and thus you are afraid that you would be voted out. Furthermore, we members know that during the convention we do get empowered economically by some allowances and donation contenders offer us and if an INDEPENDENT poll is done on MMD members at the grass root level on whether a convention should be held before 2011 most members will say YES…
YES let us have a convention.
My appeal to NEC and all well meaning MMD members is that;
1. NEC should stop the stage managed calls to have our convention postponed and let us abide by our constitution
2. NEC should spearhead the mobilisation of funds for a convention, asking people like Magande and Mpompo, will just show that other members and especially NEC members are incompetent
3. NEC should not frustrate us, the ordinary members by imposing things on us and the let impartiality and democracy prevail in the party ranks instead of suppressing those with legitimate and honest calls like Western Province PEC. We are the unsung heroes of MMD, we are the voters and organisers at the grass root level so do not frustrate us.

May I remind Kunda that time runs fast and very soon will be 2011. The question he should be asking himself is whether he will continue to be the VP. I would edge him to look at Zambia’s political history. He may enjoy now but tomorrow will be different. Time will come for him to be accountable for his misdeeds. Influencing political hooligans is a primitive way of trying to get support for his dying party. He must not forget that we are still ignored of FTJ acquittal. On Saturday I will be at Illinois state University for their Home Coming Game (Football). We are driving there with a former student of that University who is a Prof. at another University. SC is a criminal. There is no one at that University from Zed. If he is there, let him show up with summons to hand to me. Let him show his manhood at least for once. He should look for three Zambians. This will end the speculation which he has created by denying his real being. Ba Ben Kangwa, see you at Illinois State University if you can show up.
