ZCC probes petrol shortage

The Zambia Competition Commission is investigating reports suggesting that some oil marketing companies are hoarding Petrol.
The hoarding of fuel is being done with a view to create an artificial shortage and push up prices.
ZCC Executive Director, Thula Kaira, says hoarding is a criminal offence under the competition and fair trading Act.
The Law stipulates a fine not exceeding 10 million kwacha or a jail sentence not exceeding five years or both upon conviction.
Mr. Kaira told ZNBC news that investigations would be concluded by Wednesday this week.
And the Zambia Consumers Association Executive Secretary, Muyunda Ililonga, said the shortage of petrol has the potential to derail economic growth.
Mr. Ililonga urged governemnt to ensure the supply of petrol is normalised immediately.
