Centre for Elections and Governance (CEG) Zambia has welcomed the disbandment of the Task Force on Corruption charging that it has failed to deliver to public expectations.
CEG Trustee Gershom Musonda says Government’s decision to dissolve the Task Force on Corruption is long overdue as the institution has not performed to public expectations despite it being funded heavily.
Mr Musonda said in a statement made available to ZANIS today that that the creation of the Task Force was a duplication of work done by other wings such as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
He said that the dissolution of the Task Force should include transfer of files, property and funds to institutions that will carry on the work.
Mr Musonda said that the ACC does not need additional lawyers from the defunct Task Force to prosecute cases successfully as the country will continue losing public funds when key sectors of the economy like health institutions need money.
He urged the ACC to rise to the occasion and show its relevance by fighting all forms of financial scams recently reported at the Ministry of Health, Evelyn Home College and other public institutions.
Mr Musonda said his organization salutes government for taking this decision to disband the Task force on corruption at the right time to save public resources.
He however appealed to donors to exercise patience with the ACC and give it time to do its work as it takes on additional responsibilities emanating from the dissolution of the Task Force.
ZANIS
Its better the Task Force has been disbanded and its functions transferred to ACC. The existance of Task Force demotivated ACC staff. The disbandantment should be followed a thoroughly audit to establish if some funds were misapplied. The public should also be made know the total funding (Both donor and GRZ) from the time of inception to date.
If the Task Force has failed, with so much financial backing, how will ACC succeed?
Let’s address the real issue here, and not hide in ACC.
Why did the Task Force fail?
so, the task force failed. this implies levy never left any legacy and so we have been duped into believing that levy had a legacy of fighting corruption. he should be charged posthumously and all his assets frozen until he is cleared of meddling into ACC which alreaday was entitled to fight corruption as its name implies. this means RB must be fired for being part and parcel of the failed yet money gobbling venture. heads will roll soon
Levy was a product of corruption as admitted by X Chungu and he never disputed this. Ask FTJChiluba, he knows it full stop
