George Kunda’s Law firm paid K3.5 billion by Government-Sata

Headlines George Kunda's Law firm paid K3.5 billion by Government-Sata

PF Leader Michael Sata

Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata has written to President Rupiah Banda demanding thorough investigations into the alleged payment of K3.5 billion to vice president George Kunda’s law firm.

In a letter to president Banda dated 18th January, 2010 and copied to Mr. Kunda made available to QFM Today, Mr. Sata says in the case of Development Bank of Zambia vs. Sun Pharmaceutics limited which was represented by Mr. Kaunda’s law firm, the court made an order to the effect that parties to the proceedings shall bear their own costs.

Mr. Sata however says contrary to the court order, the Ministry of Finance has now paid to George Kunda and Company from the treasury the sum of K3.5 billion as legal costs.

He adds that the record of payment is available at the Ministry of Finance and Development Bank of Zambia.

And Mr. Sata says that though his party is not participating in the national constitutional conference, he will see to it that a right constitution is made for the people of Zambia.

Mr. Sata says it is a joke and a scandal for whatever justification one may wish to offer that in a country where more than 80% of citizens are unemployed and go without food government can pay one law firm the sum of k3.5 billion of public funds with impunity.

And Mr. Sata says that though his party is not participating in the national constitutional conference, he will see to it that a right constitution is made for the people of Zambia.

Mr. Sata has since maintained that the only way Zambia will be able to usher in Presidents in the country is through the 50 1 voting system.

He was speaking today on QFM during a special interview.

  1. Nanga inu aShaka munatenga zingati paja mwenze a Minisita muli aChiluwa? Ni bwanji kadhuka baba? Wenye wanu, mwanyanya inu aShaka.

  2. O please, why is this old man getting so much coverage, four headlines in a row for one person. Aren’t there other news makers in Zambia. Anyway, there he goes again with his populist rhetoric full of hot air and emptiness and why should the President attend to his claims. If thinks something wrong has been done , why can’t him and his newspaper just report to the police. How hard is that. We have laws in this country and MMD is a party of rule of law. Just gather you evidence and take it to relevant authorities and leave our president out os it. He has other important matters to deal with that this popularity rhetoric meant to cheat, excite and energise Kaponyas at Kulima Tower.

Anyway we shall see more falsehood excitement from you as we heard to 2011. The l-) is working. l-)l-)l-)

  3. An explanation from the Minister of Finance would be good. I’m sure he can justify the payment. Pipo like Sata just need to work extra harder instead of crying like babies. I’m getting sick of his nonsense.

  4. I pity your reaction MMD chief Bootylicker, while the nation is going through challenges there must be justification to pay K3.5bn where it is not due. It’s not about headlines, it’s about abuse of office. We had cases where an MMD senior official ordered fraudulent payments to some suppliers (MMD members), what did the so called law do? At least he has told us another scandal for which the subjects must pay one day. I don’t support Sata or anyone, but for sure accountability is needed in public offices.
The truth will always remain the truth even if it comes from the mouth of an enemy.
By the way even Shikapwasha is making headlines

  5. We call this, checks and balances. Every state needs people like him to give data on what spends our hard earned money.

  6. OK Sata may be a nuisance but he tends to open the lid on certain impotant issues,, so perhaps we should here him out once in a while, if the the court said all parties to bear own costs then why shouc government pay… and by the way when did this happen.?

  7. # Ba Pastor, I know you are a man of faith and I think your faith is misplaced if indeed you have faith in whatever this man Says. Looks like your faith has made you believe that what Sata has said is true. Hold it Ba Pastor, yes we know faith moves mountains, but looks like you are already assuming that What Sata has said is right? Or is this just your faith as #6 put it evidence please. If what Sata is saying is true any Lawyer will tell you that this a winnable case hands down. Infact it is contempt of Court of the highest order. Basically Sata is saying the Government has gone against the ruling of the court. That is contempt of court. If you think our Courts are spineless over contempt, ask Mrs Masebo when she was minister, also ask Kavindele. This is serious allegation!!

  8. Funny lets wait and find out what happened. I for one have very little faith in sata’s allegations. He is very comfortable mixing fact with fantasy. When he sued the Post, the court in the rulling actually said he has excessive economy of the truth. However these crazy and many times untrue allegations give him great appeal to the many uninformed youths.

  9. this man is too old and we apprecaite the data he’s giving us but i think his time in politics is up..viva pact and viva Sata..keep strong and spend the rest of your time with your family..

  10. A government minister cannot and should not be at any time while in office be involved in his company’s business or let his company be involved with the government. Mr Bootlicker, dont know whether you are being sarcastic, but it’s common sense that a conflict of interest will arise. The interests of the public or a private individual interests who’s also representing the public’s interest are conflicts that can easily be avoided simply by passing a law that makes it illegal to do business with a relative or a company you have interests in. I believe the president did award his son an oil contract last year, now tell me if he can do that what should stop Good ol’ Dubious George?

  11. Its very annoying indeed annoying. There are so many pipo who have won their cases and have not been paid to date. Some pipo through various lawyers have had their cases won against ZPA now ZDA but there is nothing happenening between Min. of Finance, Legal Affairs and ZDA yet Kunda’s firm can easily get paid K3.5Billion. Did the firm get paid coz of his position in our govt system. King Cobra bring to light more unfair dealings or transactions. This could be one case of 100 being exposed. That money could go a long way to improve the bad situations in our schools or clinics. They are hammering before they are voted out. No wonder this country is not moving forward.

  12. sata is just stirring a hornets nest. what will happen now is that govt will respond with all facts and then also publish all monies paid to nchito and others. remember that kunda’s firm is also the firm of late mwanawasa which he bought from LPM before he died. so dont get excited pf cadres. hold your fire and see what will come out. sata gets excited over nothing and usually ends up embarrassed. if its truewhy have post not published it!! Think pipo

  13. Allow me to remind Sata that the Head of state His Excellency RB has a national constituency to serve and stay steadfast in stearing to the higher height. He has no time for his acts of aberration orchestrated to deviat the head of state from developing the country.Just like RB doesn’t read insults and hallaboos of daily tabloids, he doesn’t read either political heperventillations malicious characters. On this matter if Sata has issues or credibility, the best he needs to do is report to the relevant law enforcement institution to which RB like all citizens subscribe to.If its a matter of seeking his personal views, Sata could seek an audience with RB in Nkwazi office following all protocol.Communication done in the press is not meant to solve important issues but sustain political…

  14. This report is not balance, no comment from MOF…no comment from kunda’s law firm, bring out that records lets..otherwise its just :-\”

  15. Old age is catching up with Mr Sata. The court ruled that each party should settle its own legal and other costs, the two parties are Development Bank of Zambia and Sun Pharmaceutics limited . DBZ paid its Lawyers for the service and the other company also paid its lawyers for the service.Kunda associate was paid by its client. where is the problem Mr Sata? There can be no judgement in this world that would say hired Lawyers should pay themselves.

  18. Ba yama ba Sata, on this one am with you 100%, unless you are a cadre or a direct beneficiary of RB government otherwise just as a mere citizen like me we are suppose to support the cobra 100%. Where on earth can the vice president be given 3.5billion on top of their heavy allowances which they just awarded themselves, guys let’s be fair and patriotic, God will judge us

  19. #24 But who owns DBZ? Govnt is majority shareholder in DBZ through Ministry of Finance. One thing about Sata is he prefers to deliberately mislead people. Instead of sayng DBZ paid george Kunda he says Govnt. Membe owes DBZ millions of Dollars and nobody says Membe owes Govnt, But when george gets his legal fees from DBZ the same Membe and sata will rush to the ant hill to say Govnt has paid george.

  20. In trying to sustain “The ‘George Kunda must Go’ Campaign” crusade driven by conspiracies of a legion of sore losers and embattled wacky tabloids, here out of failed reasoning Mr. Sata is again injuring himself the more. What Zambians are seeing in all this wanton political desperation designed to strip the RB administration of selfless intellectuals, is incorrigible hatred devoid of maturity and analysis. Even where truth hold on this, it would not be illegal or unethical for the Government to pay legal fees to a privately engaged law firm where procedures were dully followed unless proven otherwise the VP himself served in the case as a attorney which he is not suppose to. Look at the USA as early as 1992 with Halliburton and subsidiary Brown & Root in multi billion Dollars…

  21. Engines why don we wait for the truth. You seem to come out to explain things you are not privy to. MC has writen to the President. You and me dont know the truth, what should concern us is that we need to know if this money was paid out properly. This is a lot of cash mind you which can go a long way to alleviate a lot of current problems in our country. Dont be too defensive when you are miles away.Or is it just hatred at work.

  22. This man is ignorant. How can we have this man as President sure mwe bantu? He will be embarrassing us everyday. The phrase ‘bear your own costs’ means that you pay the lawyers who represented you as well as court fees from your pocket whether you were the plaintiff or defendant. Otherwise, if the judgement is in your favour, all the costs are borne by the loser. The sooner Mr Sata departs the political scene, the better for Zambia. Please PF, find another credible leader, and not this caricature of a politician. As long as you have Sata, Zambians have no real choice. O Lord please give us real politicians. Thank you.

  23. As someone said opposition parties are there to provide checks and balances and it’s governments duty to put records straight. Much as the Sata is old and some people don’t like, thats fine but it’s utter [email protected]@lishness to rubbish whatever he comes up with even before an official government spokesman gives us governments side of the story. Whatever they pay him(VETERAN) should be very handsome because there is no way a normal person would be this frequent on blogs for nothing. And if you are paid using taxpayer money you should be ashamed of yourself because the only thing you have achieved thus far is making RB’s government even more unpopular with your obnoxious comments.

  24. the saint thank you. thats why I was saying to the PF cadres hold your fire. sata is known for such pranks. remember he gave a total fabrication story to the post a few years back about LPM giving money to cadres and giving instructions to police concerning pf cadres. the post had to come out andf make a full detailed apology to LPm otherwise they would have been sued penniless. SATA MEANS LIAR AND HE IS A PROVEN LIAR

  25. Sata, that is is the best you can do, criticising, and finding fault, and but that is not a quality of a president.. Your time is past, and all we need now is new politics and governance..
The man is not talkig about developmental issues just critics and re-nationalisation..Tells us, how will you improve Zambia if elected as president??

  26. What you need to know is that Sata has no real world skills to appreciate professional service. He is a man that has aged in thuggery and knows only thuggery.Wherever you go the Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata is portrayed as a thug because of his slavery to demons of lies and hatred. President Rupiah Banda a naturally reform-minded President with eyes on big things’s defeaning silence is on the basis of his statesmanship too distant from irrational bitter heads.“Let us recruit more members from other parties so that come 2011 we shall face those that are opposing us head on. Our opponents are not coming up with good policies. HH Hakainde Hichilema is always insulting, the way he is portrayed. Especially in The Post newspaper, he is using vulgar language.Sata is attention…

  27. Sata is skilled in insults and lies besides reading prepared speeches on things he does not even understand such as public justice and ethics. Every day he is portrayed as a thug, he is a person who is always hurling insult. Let us work together, let us be focused. 2010 is a year of rejuvenation,” and MMD landslide victory. We can help promote an issue driven opposition of pragmatists than those that evolve their politics on insults and hatred. Miss not on the victory and Grand scale national development because the MMD had started this year with a bang.We have a President who is reform-minded.

  28. Already the reformist Banda administration has changed the budget cycle which will give us no excuses to implementing projects. This year the MMD is again going to prove to the people so that they give the imcumbant ruling party a landslide vote in 2011. As country we are starting the year with a bang. We have entered the year with a single digit and the donor community has pledged to continue supporting our country towards total economic emancipation. The administration is making Grand scale strategic capital expenditure which is growing the economic activity in the country like never before. There is currency and inflation stabilization.

  29. Sata if he is closer to patriotism and national leadership material, he take pride in our country and democracy which has an independent Judiciary which is cardinal and in accordance with the provisions of our Constitution. Zambians have unhindered access to the courts and this is evident in the fact that acitizens are free to take legal action even against the government of the day which in the Sata Utopian Government would not be the case.

  30. The ruling MMD appreciates the fact that the role of adjudicators in the administration of criminal justice and in resolving civil disputes demanded that this is done with conspicuous independence so that Mr.Sata can take his malice there freely. The MMD doctrine is that Judicial independence also attracts international investment. Judicial independence instills public confidence in our courts. MMD wants people to run to our courts and expect to get justice. However, this is important that the public becomes aware of the value of judicial independence and desist from making unnecessary attacks on on each other without facts. Its because of our independent system of justice that we see even wacky sensational tabloids with their national legal liability lawyers filling suits in same courts.

  31. In the Zambian courts of justice they have been vaily subverting with malice, smear and insults Mmembe and Mutembo suing Zambian Dailies and Richard Sakala over “The George Kunda Must Go Campaign Dossier”. Sata should learn from his protege that the way to go is take things to courts than waffling senselessly in the tbaloids.

  32. I gues this story will be a screaming headline in one of the papers tommorrow. maybe the story will have more meat, but here, its difficult to grasp the real issues. It may have been a commercial transaction, but my worry has always been with the ammounts these lawyers get for what ever service/diservice they give. the amount may be scary because itinvolves the VPs firm, but I believ its no yes than the amount demanded by MNB from the government.

The figure is typical of what all other so called “high profile” firms make especially in so called high profile cases. could the other proffessionals also wakeup and make as much money as the lawyers please??, only difference is that lawyers will charge you even for selling your house, making a lease agreement for your house, why the hell…

  33. :-?Fellow bloggers and commentators, first and foremost,i have not read all your comments but do you think Sata would just make these comments even if it is for political milleage? As the old saying goes…”there is no smoke without fire”. Zambia/the government cannot afford to waste money(in this current economic climate) on intangible activities which only benefit the minority. It’s a pity this allegation like others before will eventually be fogotten because the powers that be and the systems that are supposed to ensure transparency of those in government(the government voted in by the poor electorates) are not effective systems.

  34. Whenever there is an allegation, civilised people like myself wait for evidence and justification. Do not condemn the whistle blower.

  35. Just what exactly do lawyers do to be paid such huge sums of cash! Lawyers charge exorbitant legal fees, how do they calculate such fees? Seems it’s a high paying profession uuhh, no wonder every Jim and Jack wants to study law.

  36. Again if indeed Sata is saying there is theft involved, he could report the matter to the police, LAZ or perhaps to the foreign donors funding his political campaign. But because what he is saying is absolute nonsense he choose a gullible radio station.PF’s political campaign lacks substance on real issues. One week he’s talking about oil prices he can’t fully understand, next he is busy accepting Chinese Investment back in the country. Does he know what he wants?

  37. But Bootlicker mwana wambwa zoana, why would any sane person support a government that pays out such a huge sum of money on a legal case that has not brought any benefit to a very poor country like Zambia. But anyway, because Bootlicker naikuta namano nalilakumo!

  38. Its better to ve things sorted out while some one is in office,so many scandals to leaders in govt ve allowed they offsprings to supply fuel.A military intenvetion is required to mop out nonsence in the nation.

  39. What really is intriguing is that some people on this blog will go all the way to lampoon Mr. Sata even when they know for sure that something wrong is brewing in government. Do you guys recall the Ghost Worker issue of Thandiwe? Sata brought it out. This is how oppositions work. The government of the day will try by all means to enrich themselves at the expense of the nation and the people they swore to serve. It is a fact that unemployment is over 80% and people are going hungry. The court ordered that the parties bear their own costs. Only in a corrupt govt payments will be made contrary to the court orders. Veteran Senior Citizen Ben Kangwa with his Vigilante justice and never ending songs of praise to Banda has made career to insult anyone who brings out failures in this govt.

  40. central line
The problem is not that Sata is telling lies. Even if it is true, if government contracted Kunda’s law firm to represent them in court, why should he not be paid? The amount you pay a lawyer is not a figure you pluck out of the skies. If Sata got educated, he too would be offering his services for money. His wife is a doctor and owns a nursing school, should she not be paid for private services rendered while he was in government? Get a degree ba Sata and then you will understand intellectual propriety!

  41. If for sure Banda has integrity as purported by Veteran Senior Citizen Ben Kangwa (Wasting govt resources at the Embassy in Washington), they should come out in the open and state their findings. In the case of Ghost worker, Thandiwe, what has been done by this govt so far? The budget Ba Ben Kangwa you are talking about is to pay Kunda’s law firm and all those involved in the oil scandal that Sata had warned the nation. And today, you have not commented or even retracted your dolt comments you made when Sata warned about fuel increase. It easy to sing praises, but at the same time you look more [email protected] when all this corruption is brought to light. No one here is refuting the payment to Kunda, because you all know that it happened.

  42. Does anyone see what i see in VETERAN, there’s something seriously wrong with this person. Fellow bloggers if there’s anyone who knows him on a personal level please he needs help do something. There’s no way a normal person would be on the blog 24/7 canvassing for someone people have already made their minds up to show the door. Seriously, i sometimes sit down to try and read his mind through his comments my feeling is we’re witnessing a fellow Zambian losing his mables while we cheer him on, unless he comes out to tell us he’s paid for all the hard, madness is setting in and the trouble is there’s no free health care in the States, forget insurance what time does he go to work to pay premiums.

  43. By the way, how was Kunda’s law, the VP’s law firm contracted? That in itself does not smell good. The corruption that has been perpetuated by the RB government is worse than that of FTJ and other corrupt neighboring states. Zambia today stands out as the beacon of corruption even to other corrupt nations. They learn how to become corrupt from Banda. Nations around are asking Banda to go and show them how to steal. He is traveling around to go and give consultations on how to be corrupt and steal. That is the Zambian govt Ben Kangwa comes here to praise and sing like a blind ape.

  44. Thanks # 32 SC for your insightful views, Sata has no education and professional skills but a heart filled with insults and lies only.Citizen empowerment acts dictates that those who lender a service must be paid. The law does not exclude professional services of the VP’s company in Government services where procedures of contraction are observed. This is different from Sata’s MerzF and Avondale housing scandals. This is professional service delivery at a cost.Go to court if feel there is anything wrong instead of waffling needlessly in an empty roomm where disingenuous armchair cadres like Kalo2000 thrive in fantasy.

  45. Let him learn from amongst VIPs like Mike Arroyo and Dick Cheney as far back as 1992.1995

In 1995 without any previous business experience, Cheney leaves the Department of Defense to become the CEO of Halliburton Co., one of the biggest oil-services companies in the world. He will be chairman of the company from 1996 to October 1998 and from February to August 2000. Under Cheney’s leadership, Halliburton moves up from 73rd to 18th on the Pentagon’s list of top contractors. The company garners $2.3 billion in U.S. government contracts, which almost doubles the $1.2 billion it earned from the government previously. Most of the contracts are granted by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.3 Halliburton’s overseas operations go from 51% to 68% of its revenue.

  46. According to the Center for Public Integrity,4 under Cheney’s leadership the company also receives $1.5 billion worth of assistance from government-sponsored agencies such as OPIC (Overseas Private Investment Corporation) and the Export-Import Bank, a huge increase compared to the $100 million that the company had received in federal loans and guarantees in the five years prior to Cheney’s arrival. Years later, during the 2000 campaign in a broadcasted vice presidential candidates’ debate with Joe Lieberman, Cheney asserts that “the government has absolutely nothing to do” with his financial success as chairman of Halliburton Co.

  47. The point is the government has paid the nchito brothers much more than what kunda’s law firm has been paid (if we are to believe satana)..why is Satana not questioning mchito brothers’ payment?[-(

  48. # 60,
Despite many flaws Halliburton has had in its operational history,in a free market economic entreprise any business which observes codes of ethics and business practices have the right to compete for any sought professional service.if chosen and delivers, such a business has all the good business practices rights to claim compensation. So don’t over expose your mental slavery with impunity.GK is a professional attorney who has a company that has been serving this country for many many years. His movement into public like cannot innoculate his existing business.Should those lawyers left behind go under with the business and not take competition?

  49. I honestly cannot believe many of you are Zambians because Zambians are intelligent and well versed in Corporate Governance issues.. There is VERY STRICT CODE OF CONDUCT (NOT SURE IF TS LAW)THAT DEMANDS THE EXCLUSION OF GOVERNEMENT EMPLOYEES FROM ALL CONTRACTS FOR SERVICES OR OTHERWISE DUE TO CONFLICT OF INTEREST ISSUES. Mwanawasa sold his law firm to GKunda and company when he became Republican president in 2001. Kunda who is also Attorny General therefore supervises all contractual engaments of Government institutions, DBZ included CANNOT Bid for any contract what so ever. He should resign his goverment position if he wants to participate.. either way $800,000 dollars for probably $2m max that unknown Pharmaceutical coy owed DBZ is exorbitant and is the reason the laws exist. DULL

  50. We shall wait for the political which Chipimo Jnr is been frustrated to register. It will thrive he is young and full of new ideas, we are tired of these old thiefs just all of them. Abash MMD, PF, FDD, UPND

  51. In fact when you join government you are not allowed to run your own business by the side or get involved in private business in what ever capacity.. If you are found doing so, your case is dismissable and you are may be prosecuted in the courts should it be fond that your business interests were inolved in government contracts and that you could influence direction of contracts and payment.. This is basics guys.. How can you be so ignorant.. no wonder Zambia is poor .. Im not proud to say we’ve produced minds like Veteran , MMD boot licker, The Saint, Munalian, Nyau Dancer & sorry NDOBO you too.. I dont know if you work or have heard of Corpor Code of Conduct & whistle blower protection, Insider trading, conflicts of interest. Oh! the dullness of Zambians is beyond belief. muchinje.

  52. People serious prison sentences for Insider Trading (15yrs +), conflict of interest issues under Western contries laws. e.g USA.. Even under Zambian law if its proved G.Kunda influenced the awarding of contract by DBZ, he could face criminal charges under Zambian law.. These are serious issues and not jokes.. Where’s you pride Zambians.. If Kunda is such a hot shot and intelligent as he thinks, why doesnt he leave govt all together and build real wealth and figh it out like the rest of us in the tough private sector???? he would crush..

  53. # 66-69 Dagga,

Stop this willfull behavior of exposing your overzealousness on things you don’t even understand.Insider trading and corporate Governance? Do you know these are or you are just parroting terminologies you have no background about In what way does this fall in that category? FYI, i have 7 years of multi national Corporate America work background beyond your imagination. Here you are behaving like Sata’s offside son like him who talkes about sophisticated things he does not even understand. Explicate how insider trading is evident here.

  54. We shall talk and talk untill no more… plz lets look forward for things that will help us move our zambia to better economical standard. Ba Tata ba Sata ala pa nsaka tapabulwa Chipuba (Kabolala)… But lets not spend time on that… Yes we can point them out but what next,,, How many theives have we seen proved innocent in our courts????????????
Mr. Capitalist above; We don’t need Evidence, go back to zambia and see how life is than you will tell…

Mr. Capitalist above; We don’t need Evidence, go back to zambia and see how life is then you will tell…

  56. MMD has unleashed their paid embassy Hone trained journalists in the name of Press attaches to attack everyone in the diaspora who dares discuss their failed economical, social, and political endeavors. These people you see throwing punches at everyone and everything are not mere Zambian citizens, but paid MMD cadres serving their master Banda, in USA, Canada, South Africa, Britain and other parts of the world. MMD knows that it is the people in the diaspora who can turn, spin and redirect the nation from their corrupt and failed leadership. In the process some souls have been swayed and ignorantly have failed to understand who they are fighting. These are trained cadres operating on orders from State House through Jere. They never let go. That is what they are paid for.

  57. #73 Veteran.. 7 years…. I really dont know what you have been doing all those years, clearly you haven’t learnt anything on Coporate Governance rules, which are even tougher in Management of Public Finance (Not Your Money). Maybe you havent risen to a level where you are accountable & have to champion & implement Corp Govern policy of which Whistle blowing and protection of the blower there of is key. As I said if you realy are Zambian (Zambians are smart), you would have been intelligent enough to take interest in the issue Sata has raised… MAybe you wudn’t cause you are ingorant on Banking operations and 3rd Party Credit risk exposure limits statutorily in place regulated by BOZ, which limit maximum lending to 1 individual to 25% of Tier one Capital.. DBZ Balance Sheet

  58. # 73, veteran, FYI ZNBC your former employer is not a multinational. You see when you lie you sometimes forget what you told once. You said you are teaching at Illinois State University and I challenged you to meet me when I come for a homecoming game late last year. Did you show up? NOOOO! To as I write this, these no Assistant, Associate or full Professor at Illinois State University you mentioned. LIAR. I don’t even know if we can consider ZNBC a corporation considering that it is not a profit making venture but an arm of the govt established not for news but disseminating propaganda.

  59. DBZ Balance Sheet is smal and has Regulatory Tier1 +50% of tie 2 capital of about K60billion, restircting max lending to about K15billion ($3m.) . Normally Bank would only take risk on AA rated large corporates with a 150% securitisation. Fixed and floating charges + Debentures. That Pharmaceutical company would not qualify for such a limit, unless cash covered LC’s for imporation of drucgs.. So there’s no way that the amount under dispute (which is related to lawyers fees) could have been more than $2m (K9billion).. Then to pay a firm of lawyers K3.5billion ($800,000) almost 40% of the amount is crazy.. Ive never seen such a case.. Even one I handled of similar value vs ZRA our Top Zabian lawyer was paid $80,000. He got us of the $3m hook.. So Veteran. Zambians are not DULL like you..

  60. Now lets get back to the issue. Sata has unveiled how MMD is stealing and sharing public funds in the darkness of the night. Fighting the messenger is not the solution. Who should we fight, the one who stole or the one who informed us that RB and Kunda are stealing? Remember how MMD and Shikapwasha went after the person who gave Sata the Ghost Worker’s (Thandiwe) pay stub. That my friends is the way MMD operates. In the midst of a crime, like the killing of the Marketeer at Chisokone by MMD vigilantes, who do they arrest? Protesters to the killing. What next MMD? What will you do to that nation?

  61. LEGAL COSTS MY FOOT!!! MMD government is at it again! Was it not just recently when they approved a payment worth millions of US dollars to Rodger Chongwe over a silly bruise. Whichever way you look at it, it is immoral and socially unjustifiable for the government to pay such an amount when 80% of Zambians are living under abject poverty. It is also incopetence of the highest order for the government to be found ridiculously liable to pay such collosal amount of money. I can smell a rat here and whichever way u look at it, Goerge Kunda played double standards here and abused his power. For God’s sake he has been the Minister of Justice or…. sorry I meant “INJUSTICE”. How can the government incur such legal fees when he should have offered legal advice to the government in the 1st…

  62. In the event that Mr Sata wins the election which remains a possibility, the country will be in for a very fascinating ride………….!!!

  63. Some of you fellow blogers are ridiculously uninformed..and your comments have no value at all. Legal advice indeed. This issue is not about jelous for your information. It is more to do with abuse of power, corruption etc. Sata is challenging the Ministry of Finance to explain. Why cant we wait and see before you can crucify King Cobra? Can The Post dig deeper please.

  64. # 82, I would rather be in a fascinating ride than a corrupt and crime infested government. After all, who does not want to be fascinated? I will take fascination instead of corruption.

  65. I said it and I will say it again, theres a Mole in Rupiah Banda’s inner circle. The things that Mr Sata says are not from without, sometimes there alittle bit off but 95 percent of the time the things he says are true. So all we want is the breakdown of the legal costs chapwa.

  66. #85That stand you take is very myopic and leads to self destruction.Sata is the worst thief in politics, the only think which saves him is that he’s too sophiscated and uses fronts to steal for him.RB is clean man it’s just that Satana is always telling lies about him which unfortunately people like youKalos2020 believe. What a shame!!!!

  67. Just wait beyonce wapa Zed you’ll get the the truth ,meanwhile you must accept GRZ story as truth,am sure the responsible minister is preparing a comprehensive statement on the matter MMD runs a transparent government with hidden agendas or money under the pillows like Sata did to the donated money shared it among his failure children ati lilenipo bana bandi apo nshilakaka.

  68. #88 when you say”RB is clean’ who are you trying to kid? Sata may not be perfect but at least he gives the Zambian people insight of what is brewing behind the MMD’s closed doors, he brings things in the open. So unfortunately its people like YOU who needs to wake up and smell the coffee, BOOYAH!.

  69. # 88, talk for yourself dear. I would say the say about Banda. Well, I would believe Sata than Banda because up to now I have not heard form your Banda about the Ghost Worker Thandiwe. Evidence was shown and for sure Banda is a globe trotter. For Sure Banda has increased fuel, for sure Indeni is closed, for sure Zamtel is on sale for personal benefits, for sure Banda’s son showed up on Tetamashimba’s will, for sure he is paving the road to a game park while roads in Lusaka and Copperbelt, are in dire need for repairs, for sure Corruption is back with vengeance on Zambia, fro sure FTJ is free, for sure High Court is under his control, what else? So, my dear i don’t need your dolt and unfounded lectures on Sata and Banda. Sata served well when he was governor, Banda set Namboard to fail

  70. # 88 YAYA,

Just laugh over these illusion of cadres.Constitutional power come from ballots and not tabloids Zambian politician of rare breed hallunate about.Under the Zambian constitution, clock and voting count, Sata will die waffling and sinking deep in foreign contracted campaign debts unpaid. You can save this statement and charge me of treason that i missed it a thug in Sata has entered statehouse. In democracy, we don’t inhibit free speech but voters are rational to keep rejecting mentally unstable character. As long as power mandate is from the voters from every registered voter around the country, maybe in 2016 Sata will never Zambian President.

  71. #(92What governor are you taking about who tarred 200meters of road in Lilaba 4B leading to his bapongoshi the Kasebas, why should Lusaka roads always be mended at the expense of other areas ?Lusaka is not Zambia,Zambia is made up of nine provinces and 73 districts.Yes if you want your poor Zamtel to continue is the same mess keep it like that.Telco companies worldwide are making money but not Zamtel, wake up you sleepy chaps!!!!!!!!The work of the opposition is to oppose thats why Satana even opposes very sensible government programmes in order for him to gain cheap publicity and attention from pipo like Kalos2020

  72. #94 Vetaran Well said ,thats why i blog because it puzzlesme how educated people with sound mental capacities can be messengers of a such mentally unstable person like satana it really sucks .

  73. The Zambian constituency is just too big for deluded cadres to realise how it perpetually rejects hallucinators. Here is Sata after willingly denying participation in the NCC, Zambians warned him of becoming irrelevant. They told him to hell with you this country does not evolve around your insulting schedule.Patriotic Zambians responded in numbers and converged to produce a national constitution. Today realising a national resolve, he is hallucinating with orders on the NCC for a 50 plus 1 clause. Now hear me, Zambians doesn’t work on his terms. He can remain in hell and get lost over there for life over the Zambian constitution.

  74. ZAMTEL saga continues I hear some bidder is proposing to buy ZAMTEL at $700K. This is ridiulous. ZAMTEL’s licenses only cost close to $1bn if one follows the SADC and COMESA license market values for Telco servies and this is before assets.

ZAMTEL’s billing platform software was purchase for over $1m, with another $300k for a Financial Management system according information gathered. All these are assets plus the numerous assets they have installed. ZAMTEL’s makes another $800k from VoIP services and traffic minutes from South Africa and Israel on a monthly basis. Then one of the bidders is UNITEL, please google Isabel Dos Santos and you will see that she is 25% of UNITEL whilst the other 25% is by PT (Portugal Telecom) and 50% by govt. Stop this rot pls

  76. Between 2001 and 2007, Sata spent his life insulting Mwanawasa and lampoooning him over his accident misfortune. It took a personal visit in the death chambers and an insertion of a metal pacesetter in his heart arteries which he surving on today from Morningside clinic to start respecting Mwanawasa he called brain dead cabbage.Since it takes calamity or crisis to reason, it will take another disaster to respect RB soon after losing 2011 to MMD.His heart inserted pacesetter metal will fail to withstand the depression and arterie pressure. He is sick in his head and sick in his metal surving heart but has the courage to smear a health GK.

  77. God fearing christians need to pray for PF Party President Mr Sata to surrender his life to Jesus so that the Lord may use him to bring deliverance to Zambia. This man is gifted with natural talents but something just hinders him in the natural, if he gives his life to Jesus and is discipled properly by men of God who have intergrity, morals, practical and high achievers and performers ,Mr Sata can go very far . Same applies to UPND leader HH, God fearing christians need to pray for him too, these two men can turn our nation and make it a source of pride in Africa. We commit the pact to Jesus that selfishness shall not prevail but a heart of servanthood to serve Zambians will be the motivating factor. Let’s offer our prayers to God through Christ Jesus for these two gifts in Zambia.

  78. # 98,

Assumption is the lowest level of knowledge usually among street cadres like you. Its just like LT Honchos, myself and some compatriots here have kept seeing a deluded Kalo2000 who thinks i’m BK in based in DC. This is without effort when i’m posting some good 1500 plus miles away from DC.Produce facts and not hype otherswise you are burning in vanity like Sata who say KK has put an arms cache at Panji’s farm in Sindamisale, Sadam is hiding at Zambian state lodge then he invited Americans to pull triggers on the country.

  79. Agape,

If i may ask, do you know that Mr.Sata is a Satanist and derives his name from Satan? On the other hand, HH is a mansonist two lines of faith that have renounced Christ. Why can’t you pray for Miyanda a strong believer already that carry the fear of God? You sound a very immature Biblr flippant than a served prayer giant.

  80. Awe this site has a lot of barking bull dogs, as KK would say.
Sata has been civilised and formal enough to write to the President of the country and all we should wait for is the response- PERIOD!!!!!!!!!
So stop barking and go to sleep, ba GALU imwe.

  81. Mojo, who created Mr Sata and HH, whom did Jesus die for on the cross of calvary and who did he shed his blood for. Who gives human beings intelligence , gifts and wisdom. God loves Mr Sata, HH and yourself just the same, God loves them so much that he does not want them to perish neither does he want the gifts that he has given to them perish but he wants to be glorified through their lives. That’s why every God Fearing Christian needs to pray for their salvation. I would encourage you to read the parable of the Pharisees and the tax collectors. God bless you.

  82. Suppose a lawyer charges $100 per hour. The case lasts two years. That is 730 days. Take away weekends you have 522 days. If he spends 3 hours on average on the case on research, write ups and court attendance everyday, that will be 1,566 hours equal to $156,600 or K600 million. This is a very junior lawyer of less than 5 years experience. A state counsel may earn far more than this.

  83. #106 BOMBER,how are you call me ‘chi’am a very honourable and respected person of good standing in society. You must respect for others especialy people you do not know and more intelligent than you.Satana never stops amusing simple minded people with his lies and dreams. The demons of Lenshina Kalofya guide him day and night.

  84. When Sata is busy producing evidence of corruption in Banda government like the Ghost Worker Thandiwe, Veteran Senior Citizen Ben Kangwa and his other foreign Zambian embassies Press Attaches abroad are busy defending crimes committed by MMD govt. They have been turned into MMD criminal syndicate spokes men.

  85. PEOPLE BE CAREFUL B4 YOU JUDGE.REMEMBER THERE IS NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE,LET MR KUNDA DEFEND HIMSLEF IF HE THINKS MR SATA IS TELLING LIES.IAM SURE MR SATA GOT THIS INFORMATION FROM AN INSIDER.

  86. Senior Citizen, when will you give us a break from the nonsense that you regularly paste on the blogs? By the way, what will you do if Sata becomes President of Zambia? We know who you are; we’ll make you pack your katundu in 12 hours from the Zambian embassy in the USA.

  87. :-w I just wish LT could be balanced in his reporting! What is the comment from GK or the Finance Ministry? Frustrating story.

  88. Lusaka Times can you sensor the comments. Most of them are written by pipo have nothing to do; this you can tell from the comments thay write. This column is being abused. May be you are happy with these kinds of comments. Even if these comments do not represent your opinion or views, this ia your website, so you cannot completely disassociate yourself with these comments.
I think you meant well when you opened this column. It looks like its a column for low caliber pipo who do not realy mean to contribute positively. Do you read through these comments? YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

  91. Imwe mwe ma Ko boyz supporting Sata have you seen the snake in his office. This man is truly evil, ya… Ati ba president!! Koma nipa zed. Chiwanila Galu

  92. #59 – Msana wanzili – I agree with you but it wouldnt surprise me if veteran is Lupiah himsef or Jorge Kunda. Either way this guy is a seasoned politician for MMD.

  93. ukese bafyenta mune sata. RB wont bow to your demands with or without evidence that Ka Kuna ali tobela. Please come and jail the devils if at all you will make it bwana.~X(

  94. ukese bafyenta mune sata. RB wont bow to your demands with or without evidence that Ka Kunda ali tobela. Please come and jail the devils if at all you will make it bwana.~X(

  95. ukese bafyenta mune sata. RB wont bow to your demands with or without evidence that Ka Kunda ali tobela. Please come and jail the devils if at all you will make it bwana.~X(

  96. SAta can’t make a good president, i don’t like this snake spirit behind him. many people will be hurt and many will die during his rule as zed president. Don’t you see this cobra spirit? its not a joke, this is real……………:(:(

  97. I agree with #19. There is a lot of sense in what you have said. But in doing so, LT will need to be impartial and objective

  98. Botswana has donated p1 million to the republic of haiti, as humanitarian aid following the devastating earthquake that took place in haiti

Rwanda – us$100,000, according to rwanda’s new times newspaper

South africa – the government has announced a three-phase assistance package: deployment of doctors to a search and rescue team led by rescue south africa, a non-profit company; deployment of forensic pathologists to help identify bodies; provision of unspecified humanitarian aid in partnership with south african ngos

Senegal – president abdoulaye wade has pledged free land to haitians wishing to be “repatriated”, news agencies reported. Spokesman mamadou bemba ndiaye was quoted as saying: “senegal is ready to offer them parcels of land – even an entire region. It all…

  99. Liberia – independent star radio reported the government had contributed $50,000.

Nigeria – the 121-strong police contingent serving with the un mission in haiti is working with rescue teams in the capital, port-au-prince, according to this day newspaper. The country’s vice-president goodluck jonathan said in a statement: “as the international community mobilizes in aid of haiti, it can count on nigeria’s support.”

  100. Sata was in the Gov’t that created a thrush fund for cadres so he understands how theft goes in GRZ. This makes him a good whistle blower. We need him around in this very capacity but not as the president of the nation of-course. Anyway we gonna wait and see how this one boils down.

  101. #121 annd 128 that is why God fearing christians need to pray for him so that he may surrender his life to Jesus Christ fully and go through deliverance because this man is truly gifted but something just holds back his blessings, otherwise with no travailing prayer he will end up as one of the best president’s that Zambia never had. Remember HH too, God needs to work in his life too, something also holds his blessing back. God bless Zambia our country really needs divine intervention.

  102. Freedom of information and expression. Thanks that this are the pipo we need in Zed so that we are kept well informed, GRZ should answer to this questions

  103. To yaya, vetrean and all you MMD ass lickers, oops whipe something from your lips, you are the foolish ignorant chaps this country has produced.Viva sata and all whistle blowers!!now digga pump some knowledge in these empty chambers..

  104. To yaya, veteran and all you MMD ass lickers, oops wipe something from your lips, you are the foolish ignorant chaps this country has produced.Viva sata and all whistle blowers!!now digga pump some knowledge in these empty chambers..

  105. HH president of the pact and Sata vice, what do you think? This can take Zed forward. Its us to choose between the two. Who seconds me???????????

  106. We need evedence bwana Chief Kaponya. The MMD Chief Bootlicker puts his/her facts straight as an MMD supporter but the PF guys, they just say PABWATO. Is Pabwatoo a manifesto for these Kulima Tower IDYOTS?
MMD Chief Bootlicker and Capitalist, I here by annouce my continued support for the MMD and RB. You mean well you guys. You are real DUDES

  107. I am surprised that people could condemn a whistle blower on a matter like this. Zambians Zambians lets be serious. K3.5 BILLION in legal fees on one case to one firm is just too much. As for NUMBER 52 Mossad, its good for every Jim and Jack to pursue law so that our country can have as many lawyers as possible to avoid or prevent the current small number of lawyers charging such collossal sums.

  108. Ba Chief Kaponya ba MCS, always blah blah blah blah blah. Empty tin in the desert. Nothing to offer. At your age, you cant stop telling lies sure. Even your dead son Chilufya the drug rehabilited boy in death with his friend Castro are not turning in the graves because of your deceit and falsehood

  109. #TPM thanks. you know these Veterans & Yaya’s leave much to be desired. There’s just no reasoning with these guys. I doubt any amount of knowledge (written or spoken) would penetrate their impermeable skulls. Even then, I don’t think critical thinking, analysis and contextual understanding of issues is their strong point. Much like their idol (wont mention his name). You see how they deviate off topic all the time with irrelevant contributions like a blind bat that cannot read or think. How hard is relating ones comments to topic on hand?. I think the’re a bit senile. #140 BMC- I’d prefer HH pres too and MS Prime Minister or something. But maybe the other way would be more likely for the 1st term..

  110. The point is that George Kunda is the vice president and should not be seen to be earning money from the same government he is serving. Let him resign and go and work in his law firm. He is also legal affairs minister. Veteran and company just enjoy your whatever MMD is giving you. Your days are indeed numbered.

  111. Having read Veteran’s write ups, and Digga’s too, I shudder to even think that we have pipo like veteran literally wanting to mislead us. Veteran, sorry mwana! Your arguments are seriously warped. I had a similar encounter just the other day with one of your kind. Full of “I know it all, speaking fancy English and not wanting to listen to others”…………….Pa-last my brother, the Zambians who are seeing it all “LIVE” will carry the day..not some hooligan miles away and hardly in touch with home. By the way, how come you seem to spend a lot of your time on this site? And you are an academician, as I have deciphered?? PLEASE!!!!

  112. #147…Hahahahahahahahahahahaha..pls spare us .Iam certain he declared his assets ages ago and if my memory serves me correct,he even took over LPM’s Roma offices WHILE WORKING AS MINISTER in Levy’s admin…What is this compared to what the Nchito bros chewed as single sourced prosecutors ? Ohh sorry, those are Mmembe’s freinds and so are above the law.Sorry once more.

  113. Hate Sata or love him, the man TALKS FOR U & ME. Its us Zambian citizens that easily forget SUCH numerous scandals. Whilst I have no gradge against Chinese normal abidding ones, but country men, how many Chinese have we read in the papers caught in the web of stealing copper on the copperblet? Lets ask ourselves how many are in jail??? None is the answer. So even this case Mr Sata has spoken, how many of us will push to know what really happened? None all we want is Mr. Sata alone to stand up to nonsense. My Professor at University once said Zambia is a collection of Tribes that FLED from other regions, COWARDS. YES maybe he had a point. A valid one.

  114. #152 Mpangula Chiteni ichi…=)), i guess your Prof was spot on!! Its really food for thought as to how all seventy something tribes can all…well almost…behave in the same manner.

  115. BMC # 155, Sata is stubborn! This is where (i think) the PACT will have a problem. Am really wishing that this thing works, pantu……

  116. Why is Sata being condemned for unearthing a scandal? This is very surprising and it can only happen in Zambia. With this kind of mentality Zambia will remain in the filth in which it is for ever and ever. Happily, from what I heard when I was in Zambia a few weeks ago MMD will be shown the door by the Zambian people next year. Even villagers were saying LPM was a much better president by far compared to RB. Once villagers start saying that then you know the game is up.

  117. Pa ZED, someone exposes a huge irregularity in the manner our hard earned cash is being spent, ati “nya nyau”! Yabaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Mu madya nao???

  118. Is Sata saying the true or not? This is the question(s) we should be asking ourselves. If it is true, did GRZ error in paying out such a huge sum of money to Kunda’s law firm? Why are we Zambians so docile when it comes to management of the country’s little resources???

  119. Ba MMD cadres musabaila, mwemalofyamwe, you dont even know what it means to pay tax. Mulila bupuba bakaponya! mukanya one day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  120. Ba kateka bachibili,Amahalf mwatapula yafulisha,EVEN WHEN THEY SAY ;UBOMBA MWIBALA ALYA MWIBALI; MWACHITA OVER BA GEORGE,PEPE BASA,THINK OF YOUR POORLY PAID C/SERVANTS:((

  121. I still think it is better to have the devil you know! Who would have thought Fredrick Chiluba, Eric Silwamba, George Kunda, Amusa Mwanamwabwa, Ronnie Shikapwasha (Former Heritage Party), Ernest Mwansa, Mwangala Zaloumis and most recently Muhabi Lungu to name a few could turn out the way they did? People say Sata is a thug but how has George Kunda behaved while in power. This man maybe a thug but he has a heart for the people. For those who don’t agree just go to Kitwe Central Hospital and the mortuary and tell me what you think. The new was built by Sata after seeing the old one for the first time. Those who have had the unfortunate experience of having their loved ones brought in dead (BID) will know exactly what am talking about. This thug is our thug!
