Do not politicise Justice Sakala’s refusal to greet Sata

Forum for Leadership Search (FLS) Executive Director Edwin Lifwekelo says a hand shake was not obligatory and a must for Chief Justice Ernest Sakala to have shaken hands with PF leader Michael Sata.

Commenting on the alleged refusal by Chief Justice Ernest Sakala to have shaken hands with the PF leader, Mr. Lifwekelo said every person by virtue of being a human had rights and Mr Justice Sakala had personal rights whether to shake hands with people or not because it was not compulsory.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr Lifwekelo said Mr Sata should know that Mr Justice Sakala was obliged to accept his personal choice and his refusal to shake hands with him was a personal decision that should not be politicised.

In the same vein, Mr Lifwekelo advised LAZ to critically look into the conduct of lawyers before the law fraternity was taken into ridicule from right thinking members of the public.

And Committee of Citizens Executive director Gregory Chifire in a separate interview condemned Judge Kabaso Chanda for remarks he issued against Justice Sakala over his refusal to shake hands with Mr Sata.

Mr Cifire urged Judge Chanda to demonstrate respect on public matters instead of being used by selfish politicians. And Evangelical Youth Alliance President Moses Lungu said Mr Sata should know that Mr Justice Sakala was a respectable person in the country because of his high integrity and he should desist from dragging him into cheap politics.

Reverend Lungu said Mr Justice Sakala refusal to greet Mr. Sata was not an issue and had no direct link with the work and Office of the Chief Justice.
During the church funeral procession of the late retired Judge Peter Chitengi, Chief Justice Ernest Sakala is alleged to have snubbed greeting the opposition leader.

  1. Chief Justice Ernest Sakala was clinically right not to shake hands with Mr. Sata.We are always advised not to shake hands at big gatherings incase of diseases. It is a well known fact.
What is so special to shake hands?”hello” is enough without shaking hands.Period.

  2. #1 and the rest of the fake NGOs. You all wrong!!! Your reactions only typifies your conduct. Tidye nao at all costs even at the expense of onse credibility. How can you say the CJ was right to refuse a hand shake which is a generally accepted way of greeting. If losers at the world cup are encouraged to shake hands with the winners as a gesture of goodwill, why cant our leaders do the same? These are national leaders and people look up to them for wisedom. If refusing to extend a hand to Sata was a judicial symbol of wisdom, this country is in trouble. Am not surprised even RB is now castigating donnors for giving aid to zambia. God help us.

  3. #2,3
kulibonesha”. makes Sata a laughing stock.”Icimbuya kumalilo”.Once beaten twice shy.Sata’s mouth piece (Given Lubinda) was equally embarassed by his boss’s behaviour.

  4. Just a silly Judge who has extra marital affairs like anyone else! Anyway, he is way past retirement age and I am sure he won’t be there after October 2011! Or even better he will kneeing to great the Great King Cobra!

  5. Ba mudala basata,”ukufwakapula” so not too long from this incidence,”balafwakapula futi”,”nafunafuti,”
Still doing comedy at that age.

  6. This mmd cadre Edwin Linfwenkelo 2gether with these useless tuntemba NGOs, false reverends have all ganged up due 2 poverty to support the mad and confused judge, Sakala an mmd cadre. Where i’m based in Japan we greet by bowing and but in this poor country, Zambia greeting is by hand and if leaders refuse publicly 2 greet each other its shameful. This yo chief justice is an embarassement even 2 us in diaspora. How can a C.J behave like a kaponya? Grow up iwe chikamba chisakala njongo.

  7. I don’t see anything defensible about what the Chief Justice did. Besides, refusing to shake hands with the PF President, he is also reported to have said: “Since when? Since when?”. This clearly indicates there was some malice in the Chief Justice’s action. Read the full story in the Post of June 24 , 2010.

  8. I find the CJ silly. Hand shake is an acceptable way to greet. This silu should know that he holds a very big public office that demands that he is fair to everyone. If Sata had even killed a fly or a mosquito I am sure these Zendes could have locked him up a long time ago. By the way this happened in church where we are normally made to greet each other as a sign of peace. Its very sad to see CJ even refuse to hand shake in church. What a devil of a person whatever his reasons are for refusing a greeting. He does not deserve a public office.

  9. And what was this useless devil so called C.J Ernest Sakala doing in church when he cannot even follow simple church rules of greeting each other as sign of love 4 each other? These are hard core devils not even worth 2 be in church. He has a terrible behaviour which he cannot even hide in church.

  10. I feel the so called Judge would have just Greeted him but ifaikuchipata amano yanono. There is a saying which goes like this Abamano ba nachoka kuchipata ,ukushafye ifipuuba fyeka fyeka.
