Koffi Olomide jets in today

Rhumba maestro Kofi Olomide

CONGOLESE Rhumba giant Koffi Olomide and his Orchester Quartier Latin 001 back-up band jets in the Zambian capital Lusaka today, at 14:00 hours for what could be best described as a memorable launch of his Mandra Manda Skol album that follows heels of the Bora Zenga.

The Paris-based music mogul and four-time Kora award winner including continental awards is expected to enter into his serious business scheduled for Lusaka’s Taj Pamodzi Hotel on Friday, August, 27.

According to the programme made available to the Times Entertainment, the self-acclaimed King of Universal Tcha -Tcho, who is coming with an entourage of eight dancing queens and a backline of 19 members, will upon arrival address members of the Press from the Zain headquarters.

Not wanting to detach himself from the things of He who created and gave him the talent that arguably makes him Africa’s top singer, dancer, composer and producer and best artiste of the decade, Koffi will on the eve of his performance make a donation to Jesus Souls Winning Ministry – a Church in Lusaka’s Matero Township.

For those that might not afford to raise K250,000 for the Pamodzi show, they would have less to worry about because the man will put up yet another family show at Barclays Bank sports complex at K70,000 on August 28.

The show has been sponsored by Kayembe Kaloji’s international dancing club – Chez ntemba – in conjunction with Kaya Gold Bureau De Change, Mad Max Auto Spares and Zain Zambia while the Matero gym musclemen will ensure the visiting star is well-protected while keeping at bay any gate-crashers.

  1. Reminds me of the days when Franco visited Zed way back. I was contracted at time by Jive Beat Center (the promoter) to handle the ticketing and wow! I was with the entourage through out their stay in the country…….memories.

  2. this man with an over bleached face using jalibu and ambi has come to corrupt the weak and naive. what do pipo go to watch him for if not see those semi nude women who wriggle their bums like dick is inside her much to the delight of male fans.

  3. Welcome home sweet home mon ami. I will link up with you later for a chat in our beautiful Lingala, Oh, how I miss Congo.

  4. #6 Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu Wazabanga, which language in Zambia is similar to Lingala?

On other Issue, I think the congolese living in Zambia have done so well. Look at the Chez Ntemba owner…… The Zambia just provide the crowd as usual. Yawn!!! Though those dancing queens looks fantastic till you see them in the day light….

  5. KOFFI KEEP COMING TO ZAMBIA SO THAT ZAMBIANS LEARN FROM YOU THE ART OF MUSIC- PLAYING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AS OPPOSED TO SAMPLING SYNTHESISED PIECES OF SOUNDS ON THE COMPUTER. ENCOURAGE YOUR CONGOLESE BROTHER AND SISTERS TO BE COMING, TOO. ZAMBIANS NEED A LOT OF LESSONS IN MUSIC TO BE ORIGINAL IN THEIR MUSIC-MAKING TO EMULATE UNCLE REX.

  6. this guy alwys visit zambia and the tickets cost $50 usd, when he is here in RSA he so cheap that his countrymen dont even to bother to watch him ,y zambia all the time

  7. No.7 who told you that rumba or congo rubbish music is the only African talent you have to be proud of? Do you know the orgins of jazz that i listen to after a hard day work? Those chaps from congo are just a batch of thieves – crooks who will steal your cars when going back to Zaire and warning to the women your husband’s mind will want to sleep with a s.e.x worker after watching those women from congo dance stop your man from going there for safety !

  8. koffi is a musical great and one of the best to come out of africa. though he now may be less popular among fellow congolese due to the coming up of other stars he has more following all over the world.I simply love his music. however I agree with #11 above that the ticket pricing in Zambia is far over the board, unnecessary and sheer exploitatation of the zambian fans by promoters which should be halted. no wonder they keep coming back to zambia more than to any other country. they charge 5 pin in a stadium in Congo and about $50 in a good venue in JHB but look how much it costs in Lusaka. WE NEED TO ‘WAKE UP’.

  9. Why does this Guy comes at monthends?I remember even last time he was here, it was a monthend. Some Big pipos had difficulties in accepting to settle huge bills they incurred.Anyway it is time to sell some gold chains and perfumes.ViVa Zanaco. This time i will opt to watch Zanaco.

  10. welcome to Zambia. this weekend will be just cool at Pamodzi Hotel. i cant wait to listen to those nice beats and watch those sexy gyrating exhuberating and and tantalising ladies.

  11. number 16 the choice is yours. you are not a sweet sucking kid to be telling mature people on this blog what you are going to do. just go ahead and do what you intend to do chappy.

  12. May be the best aspect to vent our sentiments is the church that is recieving his money. I watch them dance-’em dancing queens often times and there is everything to see-the g-string, the tits and the down-low battocks out exposed clad in a piece of cloth. I dont know how you expect the members of this church to react to this. Well, in zambialike everywhere else i guess some churches are just but a passing time and confort abored for those who want both sides of life-moral right & wrong. otherwise, KOFFI is a man in two and none in africa can be compared to him, let our musicians just learn from this talented old man who choose to abandone his proffession and saw what was worth the chase.

  13. @20 POLITICS OF SAVING ZAMBIA. You have a warped mind, retrogressive in birth and nature. Take a rest from your own life.

  14. Wow he is still alive. Zambian party people DJ Fresh from 5fm in South Africa will be DJ’ing at something like “101” in Lusaka on Saturday

  15. Moderator comment #1 you must be an old old soul by now. On the issue, welcome Koffi. Everyone has a choice to or not to watch you and as long as you mark big money, continue coming. Only wonder is, you still alive with all these nude queens all around you.

  16. He never comes to England from the last time he was refused a visa the home office discovered that each time he came to the Uk his band members were not leaving the country and he will come with different ones again it’s like he was in business to bringing people in and they put a stop to that, careful in Zambia you will be seeing those girls in the streets of Luaska or let Vj grab one

  17. Why dont those that dont want to attend his shows just stay away instead of behaving as though you are forced to attend his shows? The man is making an honest living from music and has found Zambia to be a profitable destination. Watch out those xenophobic intonations.

  18. Instead of donating to the church, Koffi “mukulu kulu” would do well consider one of the many orphanagez around Lusaka.

  19. koffi is a big start known everywhere, wearther he visite zambia not,he stil have enough monies
which can not compare to any musician in zambia, stop hating this man he his just doing his
work finis.no one here on this blog was given a tacks to access him, mind you zambia has
11 milliom of population,so if some of you will nt attend his show,he has nothing to worry about.

  20. This guy is always in zambia. Is he married in zambia or what? They must be something he does when is in zambia, maybe that is why we have so many women carring intweno mu tweno.
    Watch this guy out!

  21. Jealous down, this guy is one of the best African muscian. His music is very powerful and entertaining. We are luck to have him launch an album in Zambis.

  22. #32 Very funny, but wat haz dancing on the stage got to do with trafficking in “ntwenu”? You are not suggesting we search Koffi’z guitorz and drumz?

  23. Is hiring our women trafficking ntweno mu ntweno. Every time he comes we get so many of them- women trafficking-lol

  24. this chap is rubbisssh! coming to zambia to do what…. promote prostitution?? why his own country folks never bother about him!

zedians, kofi this, kofi that… my asssy!!!!!!

  25. Zambian journalists should check there info before publishing.Koffi is not Paris based neither has he got any album entitled Mandra Manda Skol( i know it’s Suke Chile who announced this a couple of months ago,he misled the journalists and public)
Koffi is based in Kinshasa and his new album is La Chicotte a Papa( just like we say in bemba ichikoti cha mufyashi, that’s the translation) the song Skol Mandra Manda is one of the 7 songs from the album La Chicotte a Papa and it doesn’t sound like the normal Congolese rhumba we are used to because these days Congolese musicians are borrowing the west african beat called coupé décallé,the worst culprits being Werrason & Koffi himself.

  26. #27 London says :Koffi & other major musicians like Werrason,JB Mpiana & Fally cannot perform in the U.K because of security concerns as there is a group called ”Le Combattants” which has threatened to get rid of any musician that supports President Kabila. The musicians i have mentioned supported Kabila in some political campaign songs and now they are paying the price. Koffi was in the U.K 3 years ago to perform and he was almost lynched by the so called Combattants,he was quickly saved by the British Police who came on time at Wembley where Koffi was to sing at a fashion show. Koffi was meant to do a show in 2009,it was cancelled coz the combattants wrote to the Home Office saying Koffi will be killed if he comes so the Home Office refused to let Koffi in.

  27. Waoooo, Koffi his last name is Mumba? nowonder he comes in zambia, next time you will hear him say his grand father’s counsin ‘s brother was Mumba and came and lived in zambia- Hence, is half zambian- wait and see!

  28. #4 AND 5 GET A LIFE CHAPS. WHY ARE YOU JEALOUS ABOUT KOFFI? KOFFI IS A HIGHLY TALENTED ENTERTAINER JUST LIKE MOST CONGOLESE. ZAMBIA NEEDS MORE ENTERTAINERS THAN UTUMA BROWN ENVELOPS TWA DURING ELECTION PERIOD. ZAMBIANS ARTISTS (INCLUDING POTENTIAL ONES) CAN LEARN A LOT FROM CONGOLESE ARTISTS. COME ON KOFFI KEEP ON VISITING YOUR SECOND HOME ZAMBIA.

  29. #27 FORGET. THERES NO ZAIREAN WITH THE RIGHT SOURCE OF INCOME AND IN HIS/HER RIGHT MIND WHO WOULD NOW LEAVE DRC FOR ZAMBIA. I AM SURE YOU LACK UPDATES ON DRC. THE COUNTRY IS DEVELOPING AT A FRIGHTENING (HIGH) SPEED IT WILL BE THE NEXT SOUTH AFRICA VERY SOON. THERE IS MASSIVE CONSTRUCTION WORK GOING ON IN DRC. NEW PROPER WIDE ROADS ARE BEING CONSTRUCTED, NEW RAIL LINES, SKY SCRAPERS, NEW AIRPORTS, NEW HOSPITALS, NEW TOWN, NEW SCHOOLS. AND OLD INFRASTRUCTURE ARE BEING REHABILITATED. UPDATE YOURSELF ON DRC, MAN.

  30. DRC GOVT HAVE REFUSED TO ACCEPT SHOPRITE. THEY TOLD THEM TRADE IS NOT REAL DEVELOPMENT. DEVELOPMENT IS IN THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY. IN SHORT THERE’S NO FOREIGN SUPERMARKETS IN DRC. ALL SUPERMARKETS ARE OWNED BY INDIGENOUS CONGOLESE. AND THEY ARE NOWHERE NEAR YOUR SHOPRITES-THEY ARE SUPERMARKETS IN THE REAL SENSE.

  31. with the coming of this mbuzi also comes the spread of aids. wrap up coz his music is sexually influencial.

  32. Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba, also known as Koffi Olomide (August 13, 1956), is a DR Congolese soukous singer, dancer, producer, and composer.

Born in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo, to a DR Congolese mother and a West african father. Koffi grew up in the city of Kinshasa. He earned a scholarship and went to study in Bordeaux, France where he obtained a business degree. While in France, he began playing the guitar and writing songs for many famous congolese artists. Upon his return to Congo he was a member of Viva la Musica, Papa Wemba’s band. Koffi popularized the slower style of soukous, which he dubbed Tcha Tcho. It gained popularity outside Congo. Koffi’s music can be quite controversial, taking on current events and topics considered taboo in some conservative…

  33. # 27 that was Papa Wemba that was refused a Visa and almost arrested for Trafficking not Mopao. Please get your facts right

  34. #45 why Worry about #4 & #5 Koffi is here for business, entertain! thats what he does, & he does it so well. those kids are probably sad there credit cards are full and are drowning in debt. just forget about them we will watch the show and have our Fun. Proud to be african.

  35. First of all , we dont understand what he is signing about, he has never done any songs in the language for u and me to understand, so why should u pay that kind of money to see him perform? makes no sense to me. Rubish.

  36. say what you may ive already bought my ticket. haters should have ulcers. Koffi is and will always be welcome in Zambia. no one has the right to be our spokesperson on anything be it morals or otherwise. if its AIDS you are scared of there is a cure after all. SONDASHI FORMULAR it is.

  37. #56 some of the pipo who go to see Koffi cant even afford food for their kids to eat, but they can afford to pay rediculours amounts of money on these performers. think before u act.

  38. rubbish! you broke ones shud jst kip quiet. us the fans went to watch him and we had fun. we budgeted for him , 250 ticket, if you get peanuts lobe :)>-
