CAF Overlook Zambia Late 2015 Bid

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has overlooked Zambia’s late bid and revealed that only two nations now remain in the bidding process for the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup final despite DR Congo withdrawing from the race.

DR Congo has withdrawn from the 2015 bid leaving South Africa and Morocco for the race to stage in the next two Africa Cup tournaments.

The announcement comes after the Football Association of Zambia announced a week ago at a press briefing in Lusaka that they were bidding for the 2015 finals.

“The DR Congo communicated their withdrawal in the race for the hosting rights of the two tournaments through a correspondence to the CAF,” CAF said in a statement today.

“Morocco and South Africa remain as the contenders for the rights to stage the 30th and 31st editions of the continent’s showpiece soccer event.

“The Executive Committee of CAF will meet in the last week-end of January 2011 to announce the winners of the respective editions.

“The three countries had submitted their applications prior to the September 30, 2010 deadline.”

  1. CAF knew too well that Zambia has no capacity to host such an event. Why waste time to even include them on the list of final bidders, To make the matters worse, their submittion was received late which it self was lack of seriousness on the part of Faz.

  2. Two of the most useless organs of the Zambian nation :

    1) The entire Zambian government ( all opposition parties included PF and UPND with their brother MMD)

    2) FAZ

    3) Former and current children and family members of government officials till today from the time of independence.

  3. This was a joke from the onset.Zambia cant organise any decent tournament. You could see it at COSAFA,we had nowhere to play our soccer from.

  4. These were just tactics by an ‘illegal’ FAZ executive to distract attention from its on-going mess. Thanks CAF for putting the bid where it belonged from the beginning- in the trash can!

  5. I said this was a nonsence when i read about here on LT Kalusha and his clowns were trying to use this as distract to main issue at FAZ,Any after wensday he will be remembered as the most s.t.u.p.i.d and use president has ever had!

  6. first of all COSAFA was a mess at woodlands stadium. recently the withdraw of hosting the ALL AFRICA GAMES. we are talking of 46 years of independence.

  7. Kalusha’s antics rejected by CAF: That is supposed to be the heading! However, CAF were polite and only told us that they were late- may Kalu should go around all the African CAF members to convince them that FAZ (and the PF government) can host the event. After Zambia’s failure to even hold the All African Games by the MMD Government, it is our hope that with the advent of a new government will take hosting of such huge events more serious than has been shown by UNIP- KK, MMD- RB! Twalema! Anyway, perhaps the former great Kalu won’t be in Zambia but will be president of South African Football Association (being married to a South African National)- he qualifies for South African Citizenship!

  8. Someone tell me something, you mean the whole lot of FAZ was not aware of the due date. But pa zed aawe, no seriousness, you want to bid for hosting such an event on promisary facilities without capacity to do so. VIVA CAF you have saved us from serious embarassment.

  9. #10 Faz knew too well that they have no capacity to host such an event, however, they figured out that they could simply use the all AFCON hosting story for distraction. Then next announcement I was told was supposed to be related to hosting of the World Cup followed by inviting Arsenal and Manchester to Zambia for AFCON preps but then the succumbed to calls for ECM.

  10. Build 4 state-of-the-art stadiums first, then start thinking about hosting these games! All about planning!

  11. The FAZ never submitted a bid. It was a ploy to divert our attention from the saga going on there.

  12. Clowns, this is best description for FAZ. If Tom Mtine’s lead FAZ failed to host the AFCON how can these under 5s succeed?

  13. Very sad reading, even a former war zone Angola was able to host the Africa Cup. Government has never been serious, when we failed the first time aftter being given the rights, it was the Government then that pulled the plug (am sure KK is the right person to ask what was the reason), and not the FAZ President at that time, those FAZ administrators were respected at CAF and FIFA hence Zambia was given the chance to host the AFCON, not these clowns we have now at FAZ .

  14. It is so sad that we never learn from our past blunders. Kaunda in 1988 failed to host the Africa Cup. He demolished our beloved Dag in Ndola. As a result we were banned from participating in the 1988 tournament. Now we bank on hearsay and assumption that we shall have quality stadia by then and stupid enough we don;t even make a formal bid. I tell you after 46 years of independence we are going nowhere period!
