Share

Construction works on the 13 billion kwacha Shangombo district hospital in the Western province have reached an advanced stage.

The contractor Tomorrow Investments Ltd is hopeful to finish works by August this year.

A ZNBC news crew that visited the area found workers busy plastering the walls, while others were putting floor.

Site Engineer Fanizani Phiri says he is satisfied with the in-flow of building materials, to finish up the 14 staff houses and the hospital.

The finishing of the hospital, whose works stalled for almost four years, has cheered Shangombo residents.

They are happy with government, because they depended on Senanga hospital hundreds kilometres away.

Area Member of Parliament, Mubika Mubika who is in the area to check on developmental projects is satisfied with works at the long awaited hospital.

Meanwhile, rehabilitation works on the 500 million kwacha Shangombo district civic centre are progressing well.

And the construction of 1 billion kwacha 6 council staff houses, which include 5 medium cost, and one high cost, have reached advanced stages.

A check by ZNBC News crew has found that 3 houses have been roofed, while others have rafters, in readiness for roofing soon.

Council Secretary Mwiya Mwiya is happy with the government’s gesture to rehabilitate the offices, and build staff houses.

He says the projects will motivate workers to help deliver development.

Mulilakwenda Enterprises Ltd Site Manager John Lungu however bemoaned the high cost of transporting building material from Lusaka to Shangombo.

  1. Good news. Continue developing the nation Govt. This is what we need.

I guess this is one of the projects that will benefit people in Shangombo since it seems to be the most widely used example on LT whenever PF cadres are trying to downplay developmental projects.

  2. Government is elected into office to bring development, the opposition simply have to provide checks and balances!

  3. Shangombo looks like a village. It has the big potential in so many areas. The road need resurfacing. The area needs to be divided into three constituencies if it has to develop. This goes for Kalabo, Sesheke, Senanga and Lukulu districts. Its now or never. Mubika you have tried but solist for support for more MPs in Western Province

  4. I thought the National Council for Construction had deregistered Tomorow Investment and these guys were Black listed by government in Mwanawasa’s days for receiving payment and not fulfiling the contracts awarded to them.

  5. Me too, the last time I heard of TIL was when they were deregistered for … Can someone shed light on this please. Gov was public on blacklisting these guys but it appears they came in silence.

  6. This is just open bribery after what tanspired in Mongu over Barotseland agreement.Barotselanders let us not be bought that easily. We need to keep that flame of a free homeland alive coz these people never cared about us and we’re second class on our own lands.Let us push for a referendum like south sudan that will free Barotseland from this and death of this failed artificial forced marriage with amazambians.

  7. @ Barotseman says:
you have a problem. The mere fact that you revolted does not mean that we can’t develop your area. This shows you how committed we are. Keep your vote to yourself anyway, you are the only one who does not want to appreciate. Your kinsmen shall shock you if you dont know

  8. @ Zambia and Bob
follow this link and you shall have all the answers you need on Tomorrow Investment. Research and then comment not commenting before researching. Have you heard

  9. Happy for the development, but with the upcoming election this is clearly a political move.

So…. from a governance point of view, what I’d be interested to know is why the project stalled for 4 years . Presumably they had started construction so had spent money which generating no return (only moss and mildew) for all that time. What does this tell us about govt (MMD?) economic management?

Tomorrow Investments. What’s that? As they say about tomorrow, it’s always a day away.

  10. Thats tax payers money and government has an obligation to provide basic human rights including food, shelter and education..This company was once blacklisted during Late Mwanawasa’s reign, how come the have resurfaced again?Alot of contractors who where blacklisted are now getting contracts again including Sable contractors..Corruption has really Grown in RB new deal rule

  11. am surprised that Tomorrow investment is back in the system after they were black listed in Mwanawasa’s time for Stealing tax payers money meant for construction of Mfuwe road in 2007,these corrupt contractors are back…what kind of a country are we?RB AWE MWANDI

    • As I white british man working for Tomorrow Investments and Emsworth [ All bemba and family related ] It was my experience to see first hand the corrupt practices and deception to polititians That AUGUSTINE KATATOBWE practiced.. It was not tax payers money from Zambia that he miss-managed or stole but the European money, especially from the Danish International Development Agency. I was working at Shangombo Hospital in 2005 in the early days.. I have on record the lies that KATATOBWE told Zambian Polititians Local Chiefs and Health secretaries… What did he do with the money ? Bribed and corrupted his way into politics..Moved the money around the country with armed men.. Did cash deals with criminals in car parks.. Now you know the truth.. I AM THAT WITNESS.

  12. believe me this project wont finish by August. MMD can you stop hoodwinking the people of western province. This is an election ploy and it wont work this time around. MMD promised development in mufumbwe before elections up to now progress is not visible

  13. At last the epitome of rural backwardness in Zambia has seen civilisation. Well, you cannot blame previous governments entirely because this area was a hot bed for South African /SWAPO battles.

  14. So I just heard from a reliable source that they are going to buy all the sanitary ware for this project (toilets, sinks, etc) in Botswana. Anyone else surprised they are not spending our GRZ money locally?

  15. Thats RB for you, if people need more information ask former Works Minister Mike Mulongoti. #10 Kaku said it succinctly; if a company is blacklisted, and then after a few months its back on government jobs; imagine the level of underhand methods that are used. Such contractors become a suitable conduit for money laundering, and in an election year, rigging started a long time. These are the educated at work. Ba Ka*bwa!!! No wonder you are scare of Sata.

  16. Rejected Mwelwa 3//

You have a point Western Province is too vast and with a challenging topography. Mubita is simply good young man I hope the people of Shangombo will notice this in him and vote for him. We need such MPs to bring about meangingful development to Zambia.

  17. Tomorrow Investment still exists? These guys were axed by Mwanawasa for failing to the Mfuwe Chipata road despite being paid huge sums of money. I guess its for a certain powerful individual in Govt or has once been in Govt
