Zambia Development Agency ( ZDA ) Director of Investment Promotions and Privatisations, Muhabi Lungu has resigned his position to join politics.

Mr. Lungu, once a staunch United National Independence Party (UNIP) stalwart today said he was quiting his position to join politics adding that he will campaign for President Rupiah Banda .

And Youths for Continuity with President Rupiah Banda have reaffirmed their support for President Rupiah Banda and the ruling MMD in this year’s elections.

Addressing Journalists in Lusaka today, Mr. Lungu said he will contest on the ruling party ticket the Lusaka Central Seat held by the opposition Patriotic Front Parliamentarian Guy Scot

dismissed calls by some politicians for change of government as are they based on vengeance and personal vendettas those in government.

He explained that causes that inspire revolutions are not driven by hatred but by higher ideals, principles and values.

Mr. Lungu who is also Home Affairs Minister, Mkhondo Lungu’s first born son reiterated that President Banda has performed exceedingly well warranting a new five year mandate.

In attendance were veteran politician and MMD chief wing, Vernon Mwaanga, former finance minister in the UNIP government, Rabson Choongo and Livestock and Fisheries Development Minister, Bradford Machila.

Others were MMD National Deputy National Secretary, Chembe Nyangu, Finance and National Planning Minister, Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, Attorney General, Abyud Shonga and immediate past LAZ president Stephen Lungu.

Students from tertiary institutions, Current and former senior government officials

And at the same function, Youths for Continuity with President Rupiah Banda Coordinator, Mwansa Kapumpwe said his group has turned the government’s current economic growth and national development into an election issue.

Mr. Kapumpwe said the group realized that most youths in the country lacked information on a number of national issues hence the need to embark on awareness programmes using various community radio stations.

He explained that the group has since partnered the MMD’s national youth led by Moses Muteteka to engage the young people in understanding some of their challenges such as unemployment and education.

  1. Ba Lungu ukutumpa, how can you leave such a job to join politics, when this year’s elections are so hot? You should have joined PF if you eye for MP in Lusaka.

  2. Wrong move indeed and worse still standing on an MMD ticket in Lusaka. I thought Muhabi was smart. He should have gone somewhere in Eastern Province where he can try. PF is scooping most seats

  3. if i was you,i could have not make such a wrong decision cause people are not voting for your MMD.at such your age,as young as you are you could making wrong decision look at you

  4. You are such an intelligent young man but as usual Zambians dont know how to read political climate. You have joined a very wrong party Mr Lungu.Your political future is already in danger!! Re-think your decision.

  5. Poor political judgement,Lusaka central constituence on MMD ticket? On MMD ticket you are only safe in rural constituencies, urban is for real men and women in the PF. Why didnt he go to Lundazi or Vubwi?
    DON’T KUBEBA.

  6. Ba Mulenga……I hope you are right that ba MMD nikuya bebele. Zambians have suffered sure iwe change is desperately need in goverment and our system.

  7. I hope you have some good private business ba Lungu cos you just became a destitute, you jsut raised the unemployment rate from 79 to 80.Whoever advised you is a snake that bites when you are asleep. You will forever regret this decision.

  8. They say once bitten twice shy. This man never learns. That’s what he did last time in 2006. He resigned his position as Principal Economist at the Ministry of Finance and National Planning to contest Lusaka Central as an Independent. Now as some bloggers have observed Lusaka Central is for real men. Surely, can he contest against the likes of Dr. Guy Scot. He is joking. He should have tried somewhere else in the rural areas where MMD is popular because of the controvential Fertiliser Support Programme (FSP). Mu Lusaka iyai, Mwaloba ilya buma ba Lungu!!!!! Mwailasha!!!!!! After the elections, you will be on your toes looking for another job again.

  9. Yayi akwasu a Lungu, banthu balabila. Muganize soti. Welelani ku nchito, olo mupaname pa cipani ciyakine osati MMD yayi.

  10. True democracy though wrong timing, you would have joined the new tide of the UPND popularity in Lusaka and not Poor Fools (PF)

  11. Bambo Lungu is bad lack for you. You will never enter parliament as an MP in your lifetime. Its pure lack commonsense for someone to stand on MMD in the Greater City of Lusaka expecting to win in this year’s elections. MMD cadres are just cheating you Lungu. Maybe he has made enough loot to share with our suffering masses in Lusaka Central. Voters line up whenever you see Lungu for your share. Remember DONT KUBEBA!

  12. WE ARE WAITING TO GIVE YOU RUDE SHOCK. HOW CAN YOU JOIN A PRESIDENT WITH MISPLACED PRIORITIES. GIVING GEYSERS TO POOR PIPO OF MADEVU AS HE IS FOOLING THEM. I REGISTERED IN LUSAKA CENTRAL, WE WIIL MEET HEADS ON

  13. Hehehehe ba Lungu thats suicide and a poor decision you have made. Standing in Lusaka under MMD is suicide baba. Just make your own survey and ask even the most popular politicians in MMD they will tell you that Lusaka is for hot PF politicians. Some of the MMD guys dont even want to be pointed to stand in Lusaka that area is for PF. Unless you change your mind on Lusaka you are finished ba Lungu and will never be an MP maybe only if you are nominated MP in future not elected.

  14. ELITIST BLINDNESS HAS CAUGHT MY BROTHER AND A PERSON I ADMIRE. HE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE EAST OR ELSE JOIN AN OPPOSITION AND STAND IN LSKA. MAYBE HE WANTS TO BE DAD’S BOY OR MAYBE MMD WANT TO LURE THE NEW VOTERS BY FIELDING YOUNG IDEALISTS LIKE ML BUT THIS IS DOOMED TO FAIL. THE FACT THAT HE IS SINGING RB’S SONG AND WAS FLANKED BY MINISTERS INDICATES HE HAS THE BLESSINGS OF THE POWERS THAT BE. BUT ACHEPA FOR LSKA CENTRAL.

  15. I thought what he was doing at ZDA was more meaningful than being an MP.Can this guy even win in Lusaka?

  16. I know Muhabi Lungu to be very intelligent, well-educated, widely-travelled and extremely eloquent but these qualities will not win him the Lusaka Central seat, which has been the preserve of Dipak Patel and Guy Scott since 1991. My advice to Muhabi would have been to contest Chipata Central, where Lameck Mangani is unlikely to be adopted or Lundazi Central should his distinguished father, M’kondo Lungu, decide to retire.

  17. According to United Nations and World Bank, a youth refers to “those persons between ages of 15 and 24 years”. The Commonwealth Youth Programme defines youth as “young people (aged 15-29)”. My own investigations have revealed that both Muhabi Lungu and Humphrey Siulapwa who claim to be youths are over 40 years old. These gentlemen are certainly young, but they are middle – aged and not youths.

    • On the contrary, you are a youth as long as you THINK you are, youth is a state of mind, you can be 60 yrs and still be a youth.

    • 20.1: Are sure about that? Cite refs like #20. Nothing quantitative can be relative unless the reference point is known. What is yours? The mind which is qualitative?

  18. could be due to the changing political climate in lusaka. the 90 days “pf theorem of lies” seems to be doing more harm than good for pf in its previous strongholds such that even a lightweight can beat pf. in 2006 & 2008, this was a red hot campaign weapon for pf, but now mmd strategists have turned it very effectively against the pf. mmd has realised that pf supporters are easily converted when given a dose of truth, including the fact that the real motive of this pf deception is not to reduce the people’s poverty but rather to lay their sticky fingers on the national teasury again.

  19. All these boys are bana bokulila mu premu (pram)! Are we seeing the emergency of ruling families and classes here?

  20. This Bastard is just too desperate for power. What does he want. he lost in 2006 and now thinks he can win because RB is President. Some of us have given our desires to those that are power hungry like Col. Nkunika. I will continue fuc…… my wife as DC. Anyhow she is sweet

  21. Muhabi, Muhabi, Muhabi!
Anyway, since Guy Scott is unlikely to contest, it should be interesting.

  22. Good luck. If you lose RB will nominate you to Parliament. With your knowledge and education Parliament will definately benefit from your insights and debates. I hope the people of Lusaka Central give you a chance. Being subjected to Parliamentarians like Kambwili, Jean Kapata, boxer Mumbi Phiri, Willie Nsanda, GBM, Shakafuswa, Mpombo and the lot of that calibre does not surely help us as a country in any way. Quality palibe.

  23. # 25 Herdsboy..i agree with u and thanx for your good analysis together with # 26. Zambians r gud at criticizin more especially the followers of Poor Finishing party commonly known as Pali Fwaka in blanckets PF. The Man Mr lungu can not be discouraged from goin ahead with his decision this is becoz he knows that most of the current PF MPs are lower of his rank as far as Education and the understanding of Development issues r concerned, the man is a noble man and these r people who should be in parliament articulating development issues than having Kaponya Nsanda,Boxer Tyson Mumbi Phiri,Oil crisis Mpombo too many to mention. Therefore go ahead Mr Lungu as we win with Landslide victory ever witnessed on the Zed soil..VIVA Pro Sustainable Development..and dont know why these Kaponyaz hate Dvpt

  24. Going by the majority of the above comments, I can clearly see that many pipo dont consider the calibre of political candidates. We vote 4 parties instead of candidates. Even a frog can be voted 4 as long as its on a popular party. Instead of dismising Lungu, I feel its important to wait and see who wl stand aganst him, incase its a frog on PF ticket.

  25. As a founder member of the MMD – true blue – I am very concerned about the increasing UNIPIZATION of the MMD. I remember RB campaigning against Ronald Penza in Munali. I also remember the incessant vitriolic attacks of Muhabi Lungiu on MMD. His dad, Mkhondo L;ungu, has eternally been loyal to UNIP. I remembner Dora Siliya as one of the few students on campus who opposed the petition for a referendum against one partyism in the 1990s. Now she is an outspoken member of MMD. Is MMD still in existence?

  26. It’s good that people of high calibre are coming up to stand for parliamentary positions. But this only stregnthens the theory that we have MMD cadres in key Government departments whose interests are to prop up MMD interests. For him to be in good books with MMD, he must have been doing the MMD’s bidding as ZDA Head, as we are seeing at NAPSA. He will be dressed down even if he’s an intellectual and he means well for Zambia. Let us support quality leadership.

  27. I entered University (YUNSA) with Lungu at the same time (1987) in the school of Humanities. Those who were there will remember this gentleman with an accent and always on the different side of the class during Donald Chanda’s and Matako Mabwe’s classes. I have never been surprised thereafter with his decisions – including this one.

  28. any serious political party has a development agenda that it proclaims through its party manifesto. in a country such as ours where the opposition does not want to see any form of development simply because this may reduce their chances of getting to state house, it would be highly risky for the ruling party to appoint anybody to a position of authority in a development agency like zda, if that person does not sympathise with or understand the manifesto of the ruling party. sad it may look in some quarters but it is the tragedy of the kind of opposition we have encouraged in our country, with massive p.r. support provided by the now morally bankrupt post.

  29. Eishh, are we serious about development?Zambia developement agency might just mean its an agency to be used as a lauch pad to develop people’s political career viability .Become its director, gain public exposure leading to a political career.

  30. Shiwanya.
I placed Shakas in that league because of his conduct and to some extent his performance. Even if you are IMF chief, immediately you are accused of sexually assaulting a hotel maid you lose all respect and credibility irrespective of what the courts will say later.

  31. How does Muhabi know already that he will contest Lusaka Central on MMD ticket? So it’s true Banda has a preferred list of candidates because Muhabi is Mkhondo  Lungu’s son and that UNIPIST is as of now Bwezani’s right hand man, umodzi kumawa. Anyway, thi is a foolish move, the chap is doomed.

  32. RB has indicated that the MMD will not adopt candidates who are not popular to stand on the MMD ticket. In this regard, Muhabi lost terribly in 2006, it follows therefore, that he is not popular and hence will not be adopted by the Lusaka Central Contituency. Additionally, Muhabi Lungu has been a staunch UNIPIST. Did he announce his resignation from UNIP at the same conference? or he will do it the Bwezani way, he is UNIP but is at the same time President of the MMD. Rupiah Banda is UNIP. He has not announced his resignation from UNIP. He still has the UNIP card.

  33. Guys is this the Lungu who approved the sale of Zamtel? Yaba! Mambala got 5% from the sale of Zamtel. Why cant the guy enjoy the money he made from the zamtel saga? Iye some pipo are miayopic. How can this guy make such a decission? Lets wait and see munine azalila!

  34. I agree with #34,how does he know he will contest LSK central?corruption at play like always with rhupia.Much as some bloggers are trying to bring in the notion of education, politics especially african politics are NOT about how many degrees one posses.Dipak Patel was not known to be as educated but he ran LSK for over two terms.LSK is for PF period, no matter how elite or educated you are this is a wrong decision, lets call a spade a spade people.

  35. COME 2016, RB IS RETIRING AND MUHABI LUNGU TAKES OVER AS PRESIDENT OF MMD AND POSIBLY GRZ. MAYBE ITS TIME FOR THESE EASTERNERS TO RULE US

  36. MARK MY WORDS, RB IS GROOMING THIS YOUNG EASTERNER GUY. YOU THINK THEY WILL GIVE THE PRESIDENCY ON A SILVER PLATE? CHIEF MUPEZENI SAID ABANDA TIKATISHE MUPANDO VYAKA KHUMI

  37. With facile analysis coming from Sata, it is clear this man and his “shadow cabinet” have no economic plan for Zambia. The major paper backing Sata, the Post is a noxious mix of anti- MMD misinformation and a garden variety of Rupiah Banda bashing. It is hardly surprising that the Post have shown themselves to be totally partisan in the Sata cause and emotionally prejudiced against MMD. Mr Lungu is resigning from a well paid job to join the MMD and this is a good sign of the bipartisan support the MMD is receiving.Mmembe and his friends at the Post can “daydream” and “wish” all they like, but their preferred candidate will not win the 2011 election.

  38. @ 40 Totally agree with you. Muhabi has got the backing of the President and William Banda through directives from the top has been given the task of making sure that this man gets the Lusaka Central seat at whatever cost. We are talking about the Eastern F******Mafia here. I feel sorry for mother ZED.

  39. I am happy for Mr Muhabi Lungu for his courage that the PF cadres are trying hard to trivialise. I wish Muhabi Lungu the very best in his bid to be adopted as MMD MP candidate for Lusaka Central.

To the PF illusioned cadres, PF does not own any Lusaka dweller especially me who is a registered voter in the 2011 elections register. As a matter of fact, most, if not all, current PF MPs in Lusaka have failed to effect their 2006 elections promised facelift of Lusaka Province in 90 days and this year many voters who feel dissatisfied with the archaic performance of PF MPs will vote wisely for any MP candidate form any party or an Independent MP candidate who will offer real change in Lusaka. For now, I have settled to offer the President election vote for Real Change of HH by UPND.

  40. What about Elias Mpondela? I thought he was also interested in Lusaka Central. Does it mean he has been thrown to the political wolves? Mpondela has been MMD in bountiful times as well as lean times. Or maybe he is happy at National Housing he has given up ndale.

  41. No.41
Your are leaving in your dreamland UK,if you are a zambian, come back and contribute to our nation rather than suffer in a foreign land.SATA is most favoured becoz he is pro poor man.Currently pa zed,No one is a threat to MMD than SATA.MMD is using all gov machinery plus all public media to campain for MMD/RB,whats wrong for the post to also sell their prefaired candidate since its a private paper?we should petition MMD for abuse of public media using tax payers money. In UK,the BBC covers opposition and david cameron without favour.

  42. Your decision reflects your poor judgement.i cannot agree more than i can disagree with you,or i cannot disagree more than i can agree with you.LT bloggers help me with this foreign english.

    • Thanks Brainee and lets keep this Nation together by voting in UNITY of purpose: economic development.

  43. RB has realised that he can no longer trust the so-called True Blue to campaign for him. Dr. Kawimbe who was recently appointed to be RB’s campaign manager is not trusted either and therefore, he has no choice but to fall back on the UNIP loyalists. Hence Muhabi Lungu coming in to assume the role of campaign manager. watch this space….

  44. Shouldn’t this read ” ZDA’s Muhabi Lungu rezignz and RE-JOINZ polits? Thought we have had this man in poilitix before.

  45. HE HAS FOLLOWED HIS FATHER MKONDO LUNGU.
MM is about securing jobs for family members. Even if Muhabi loses he has MMD prtotection through his father for another job WHILE FAMILIES AND CHILDREN WITHOUT PEOPLE TO SECURE THEM JOB INGRZ AND MMD CONTINUE BLINDLY VOTING AND LANGUISHING IN POVERTY.
VOTE HH BECAUSE HE HAS MADE HIS CAKE ALREADY OUTSIDE POLITICS ,NOT THOSE WHO WANT TO MAKE AND CONTINUE MAKING MONEY IN POLITICS OVER OUR POVERTY.

  46. Isnt this the chap who was defending the ZAMTEL saga? They sold Zamtel and benefitted too much. Hence the move. Do not vote corrupt leaders into office please. Lusaka Central take care. Thhis guy has lost this seat twice already. Show him he cant make get ride of him. He is a supporter of corruption. Actually, he is behind the lsot land in Serenje to Chinese and the ZAMTEL saga

  47. Muhabi is an intelligent guy who is willing to make decisions which might seem unwise but politics is not always sensible so we will see what happens. when obama announced his candidature no one gave him a chance. In fact when sata started his quest for presidency almost everyone except a few thorough tribalists thought he was a mad waffler taking delusional steps, a complete joke. I hope to see a better calibre crop of MP’s in the next parliament and at local govt level. Too many fools vying for positions these days! Chiluba really lowered our politics, now sata has made it even worse. it’s like any fool is ok

  48. looks like we have all missed the point that pf cadres are making here, i mean why pf cadres are dead worried about this move by muhabi lungu. didn’t we hear very recently that mr sata’s son will stand in lusaka central constituency? they thought that it is a safe seat but is it? mr sata junior is the one who should be advised to go stand in chitulika village in mpika. gone are the days 2006 when people would vote even for a frog as long as it was nominated by mr sata, now voters are much wiser. go muhabi go!!!

  49. I think Zed will always be interesting during election times. Names and personalities spring up. Principled people must alway find a time and oportunity to put themselves forward. Its no use just making noise here, stand up and be counted. Muhabi is doing just that. He can win or lose. But a real man should take risks in life. Gud luck Muhabi! Maybe its time you flexed some muscle. PF is not noisy callboys, who are not even registered voters. So soldier on!!!!!!!!!!
Educated Zedians should stop this culture of stanying in the back ground and yet bus conductors and ng’wazis are taking over government. And because they are just callboys, its obvious that they will fail. They have failed at everything they have attempted in their lives. Educated zadians must support other educated zambians.

  50. No one and no political party owns the voters in Lusaka, least of all the PF. We now wait for what Sata’s son will do now that the poosible Lusaka Central candidate for MMD is in the open.

  51. Looking at the political mood in the country, RB has already won these coming elections. But it takes an intelligent and intuitive person to know which party is winning. For the first time in the political history of Zambia, we are seeing almost all the chiefs rallying behind RB. A myopic one will say their subjects will not vote for RB. But I can tell you that Chiefs like the Litunga [and Sata has insulted the Litunga and Chiti Mukulu and many other chiefs] can simply call a meeting with their headmen [not edimen] and older them to tell their villagers to vote for who ever they want………I have never head any chief talk good of snake sata……….Any further debate?

  52. Right move ba Lungu, all these zizende critisinzing, baitaya coz this time, the coin will flip…..!

  53. Now, if only our Parliament was full of this type of calibre as seen in Muhabi, our country would surely make Progress.

  54. In Western province Sata did not visit the Litunga ….very strange indeed. In Chipata he insulted the Kunda people calling them animals……He condemned RB for launching the construction of the road saying ,” Why construct a road that goes to where animals live” sic. These are words coming from that mouth with a dark inside. I wonder how he will go there [Mfuwe] to canvas for votes. I hear chiefs there have issued a decree that their subjects shoukd not attend Sata’s meetings….wapya munzi…..

  55. Welcome to the world of politics my brother. This time around you will be severely bruised. Lusaka Central is a no go area for any party other than PF. Not even Chief Mwalusaka himself can atteast to that. Come on mwana uwo kulila muma prem.

  56. welcome to the party mr lungu. i wish you all the best in your quest for adoption as mmd candidte for lusaka central. we have the present and need the to start prePARING FOR THE FUTURE AS APARTY. RB NAFUTI NAFUTI

  57. This boy never ceases to amaze me!!! I suppose this is the time he makes his money, “during elections” my guess is, he has been invited to help campagain by RB and of course his Unip father RB appointed, go for it and sangwapo as you plunderthe nation even more in the name of elections. but as your classmate # 32 said above, you have pesornality issues to deal with you are not my kind of leader Muhabi! sorry.

  58. Has he been adopted by eM eM Dee ? Is he recycled also? Another mistake but good for neutrals. Gud debators are not always the best executors. Those form the 2 Versities in ZED will recall how a simple decision to vivula or not would take the whole night until ba lumpen just run loose and vivula without consensus. He has to get past other contenders in his party first and if he loses then he will lose twice – job and won’t even contest seat!!! mama neo.

  59. Lets have fun and listen to good debates with smart candidates. Votes will also be smart after bathing warm water from the gyser!!. Polling Station no smell pa line – clever RB. Nxt bathtub toothpast n muswaki. clean campaign??
