Northwestern Province Permanent Secretary Fabian has disclosed that 10,000 free plots will be demarcated and given to residents of Solwezi in various compounds.

Mr Mumba said a task force committee has already been constituted and works will commence soon.

The committee comprises officers from the provincial planning unit, physical planning and housing, provincial buildings department, Solwezi Municipal Council and ministry of lands survey department.

He added that every thing possible is being done to ensure that the 10,000 plots are demarcated and issued with title deeds by the end of July.

Mr Mumba was speaking in Solwezi today when he addressed Resident Development Committee (RDC) members from various compounds of the district.

Mr Mumba said under the programme no one will be allowed to have more than one plot so that everyone can benefit from the programme adding that all plots will have a standard size.

He observed that if some people are allowed to have more than one plot, others will be disadvantaged especially that some houses are built where they are not supposed to be.

Mr Mumba has urged members of Resident Development Committees not to politicize the programme but cooperate with the task force so that the programme can succeed.

He said the RDCs are well placed to work with the task force because they are members of the communities and know the compounds well.

The Permanent Secretary also said that members of the task force are government officers who should not be dragged into politics of legitimacy going on in the compounds but are there to do government work.

He further urged RDC members not to disadvantage anyone by allowing foreigners get the free plots saying this was a programme aimed at empowering Zambians.

During his visit to Northwestern Province in April this year, President Rupiah Banda directed the Provincial Administration to demarcate free plots in informal settlements to formalize them.

  1. After giving the best land to Mswati and to yourselves now you are giving citizens dredges. How awful!!

  2. I miss Solwezi so much. A town with a lot of potential and activity. I miss my Chief His Royal Highness Mumena. With all the minings and farming growth in the province, there was need to create housing stock. It was and is still so difficult to find houses for miners, bankers, investors and even lodges are full all the time.

Better late than never. Also, please create some plots for high end and sell them at commercial rates to business houses so that they can create housing and commercial complexes. We need those urgently.

  3. everything FREE in an election year just to entice voters..try to corrupt as many people as possible..HH has a grip in solwezi..

  4. in zambia plots are given without planning for water system and power lines and roads. this happened in mwinilunga during by-election people paid unto now is exercise is not completed was just a compaign strategy.

  5. WILL THERE BE A ROAD SYSTEM FOR THESE PLOTS? WHAT ABOUT ELECTRICITY FOR PUMPS? THEN WHAT MARKETING SYSTEM HAS BEEN SETUP IN SOLWEZI FOR THESE FARMERS TO SELL THEIR PRODUCE?
THIS LOOKS TO BE A SETUP FOR OUT GROWERS TO SUPPLY PINEAPPLES TO THE EGYPTIANS AND THEIR $50US MILLION INVESTMENT

  6. It is folly to give people plots which are not serviced. Do these guys wanna build a Chalala in Solwezi as well? C’mon MMD we can do better. Plan first and then execute later. Is this good timing?

  7. Giving free land is a folly especially for a country trying to get its citizenry to be more industrious. There’s a good reason why important sectors of Zambia’s economy are in foreign control-coz knowledge is earned never given.Which is why i cringe evrytime i hear GRZ asking for technology transfer as it’ll come with foreign expertise not zambian.Free land will only encourage freeloaders who’ll never work like hell to achieve something.

  8. Bakwetu lets respect matters of policy.I wonder what the shosho studies these guys learnt in grade 6 hand 7 has evaporated to because if we are going to talk economics then it becomes more complicated for them. How does a country raise revenue from it’s own resources if every everything has to be politicized? The next will be people’s wive’s being given free of charge to those who are ready to vote for the party in power

  9. Housing must correlate with economic activity in an area thus it is logical for genuine leadership to support invest in housing given the level of economic activity Solwezi. Fabian this is a good move except you ensure the Solwezi Municipal Council maintains standards. We want to see the same done in all the districts of Zambia so that our people’s well-being is improved.

  10. Fabian, make sure the earth-moving equipment procured for councils is used to make roads before demarcating plots so that people do not build on land earmarked for plots.

  11. Citizens always build on land earmarked for roads if not controlled. We also want to see play- parks for our kids clearly demarcated so that we guarantee the health and fitness of the future generation.
