The opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has revealed that it has embarked on a programme to recruit ex-servicemen that will assist in the monitoring of this year’s general elections.
PF spokesperson Winter Kabimba says the party has decided to engage ex-servicemen to monitor this year’s elections so as to reduce the levels of intimidations during the observations of the counting process of votes.
Mr. Kabimba however dispelled assertions that the move to recruit ex-servicemen is aimed at promoting violence.
He stressed that the ex-servicemen the party is enrolled for the 2011 polls’ monitoring are also committed members of the Patriotic Front.
And Mr. Kabimba has disclosed that the PF will be holding a convention this month.
The PF spokesperson however did not give the exact date when the party will have its national convention

We should be careful though by recruiting X-service men or whatever they are called. You would think you are planning for just a “normal alternative” to rigging but you never know to what extent the strategy would lead to short to say it may backfire because temper fly high as people lose the elections.
Remember the last loss by PF by about 35 000 votes which in my own analysis is a very big number, people started burning and destroying property in Garden, Mandevu compounds and elsewhere. Those involved had no plan BUT THIS TIME WITH THE HELP OF EX-SERVICE MEN THE PLAN FOR VIOLENCE COULD ESCALATE AND PUT THE COUNTRY IN GREAT DANGER.

Servicemen and Servicewomen are trained to be professional, and know that their first call of duty is to protect the citizens of their country.
The former soldiers are human beings and equally humane too. Let them participate fully in the further development of our nation.

Ex Service does not mean violence. wynter is merely saying that they need monitors who cannot be intimidated during counting of votes. In any case ex servicemen are also voters with individual voting preferences. So work up and smell the coffee.
