Chipata Central Member of Parliament Lameck Mangani this mornimg said that his resignation from the ruling party was not influenced by political hatred towards President Rupiah Banda saying it was only a personal decision.

Speaking when he arrived at Chipata airport,Mr Mangani told reporters that he will officially announce his intentions on Saturday and speculations are high that the former Works and Supply Deputy Minister wants to join the opposition PF.

Earlier, Mr Mangani’s sympathisers struggled to mobilse Chipata residents to welcome him following his resignation from the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).

Mr Mangani who arrived in Chipata district expecting residents to give him a thunderous welcome was snubbed and only a handful of people who are reported to have been
paid showed up at the Chipata airport. Efforts by his sympathisers to mobilise support proved futile prompting them to pay taxi drivers and call boys to masquerade as supporters.

And Chipata residents talked to by ZANIS said Mr Mangani should not contest the Chipata central constituency seat because he had proved to be selfish by dumping the party that made him what he is today saying he was a nobody before he joined the MMD.

Andrew Jere of Jere compound described Mr Mangani as a shameless opportunist who had failed to deliver in the MMD.

Eliness Zimba of Kapata township also expressed disappointment with Mr Mangani saying the wise should judge him by his cunning behaviour.

Ms Zimba stated that Mr Mangani should not be deceived that he had support due to developments taking place in the district because these were Government-initiated and that as area MP he did nothing.

She noted that Government had been initiating a number of developmental projects in order to facilitate the attainment of Chipata district to a city status.

Another resident Timothy Zulu of Mchini compound said Mr Mangani’s actions were shameful adding that people in the district had earlier respected him but did not know that he was actually a snake.

Meanwhile the MMD in Eastern Province has accused Mr Mangani of being an opportunist for ditching the party when elections were approaching.

MMD Provincial secretary, Ezekiel Mtonga said his resignation had brought sanity to the party saying his presence triggered divisions among members at constituency level.

Mr Mtonga said Mr Mangani single handedly picked constituency executive committee members to ensure that they paid allegiance to him.

He stated that the party was now intact as an interim committee had been constituted following the dissolution of the committee that was handpicked by the area MP.

Mr Mtonga also stated that the party had credible members who could contest the Chipata Central Constituency seat and challenged Mr Managani to contest on any other political party ticket so that he could see the strength of the MMD which he said was still popular in the province.

  1. This is typical of Government vuvuzelas now…scandalising everyone deemed to be an enemy. What if the man resigned due to critical or termnal illness to him or a member of his family??? Anyway pa Zed, ni till death do us part were GRZ posts are concerned, but still more give the guy a break. how much were the cab drivers paid by the way??? just out of interest….

  2. Unless you lived under a rock or something ..those in MMD are not really shocked by the resignation of this man, and if you had followed that picture saga with Kapinjipanga at some disclosed location, this is a no brainer ..will let simple minds have a field day on this one and believe they have bagged the 2011 elections. We are are happy to have the last laugh ..as always. Let them celebrate, let them build castles in the air, will we do the work now, we mobilise now , we strategise now, we feel the pain now, day is coming when we shall sing the last happy song. Some parties know for early victory parties have never won anything in Zambia, and how wonderful that history is repeating itself. You think learnt one or two things, but alas, no, they have not.

    • Ba MMD Chief Bootlicker, this is not a presidential by-election that Rupiah Banda won with the help of other opposition parties rallying and campaigning for him. Things have changed in the last 2 and half years that RB has been president. I hope you win for the sake of sanity & peace prevailing in the country. From what I can assess, MMD will go down as bad losers when they become the party in opposition.

  3. To be honest, as a person who knows both this chap and RB Iam a bit sceptical about this whole resignation. These are Chewa buddies and good good buddies.Thats why this chap was elevated to full cabinet portifolio except he’s dull and couldnt perform. Now, if I absorb a mole like this one, Iam simply recruiting a rebel like the Machungwas, Chitikas, Sampa Bredt etc,. And besides, what chance do I have in Chipata Central? Well incase you my cadres in Kasama have no idea, the answer is ZERO!! no chance. This constituency does not return candidates.MMD figured this one out So this Mangani chap shouldnt excite our recycled boat. Mangani and RB are Chewa buddies in Ngoniland of Chipata and I know they talk. Its just that Mangani couldnt get to RB before the sword was struck by the MMD cadre

  4. PF can give Mangani all the drug money from Afghanistan to campaign in Chipata and he will never win. There is no freaking way people in Chipata Central would vote for PF, that is the last place where PF should expect to win. Mangani’s defection will have no impact in both MMD and PF.

  5. you are making it look so wrong to resign from a high paying job, dear writer of this article whats your mortive….? the humble man resigned with diginity and honour i was hoping you will praise him….

  6. POLITICS, POLITICS and more politics. Come on journalists, is there nothing else happening in zambia? Please try to be more creative and give us other interesting stories, this is lazy journalism. I’m sure most of the reader of these sites are in the diaspora, personally I’m sick all the politics…..WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING IN OUR MOTHER LAND???????

  7. Knowing Chipata as I do, most likely Mangani would want to recontest the seat on another platform – PF. He stands a good chance of swaying some voters to his side. His winning will be dictated more by how much money and campaign MMD will offer. Mangani, though hated by a section of the population in Chipata, has quite a good following. He has a lot of grassroot support through a Women led organization he and the wife are running. Mangani wining will also be determined by wether one of Bandas siblings is interested in the Chipata seat. All in all Mangani will rue his chances of relection if MMD goes in full throttle. MMD might have to rethink on who to contest and i believe, ironically that it is only one of Bandas sons who can give Mangani a good run for his antics, other chaps would fall.

  8. Mangani will meet his waterloo in Chipata, information reaching me from there indicates that he has realized that he made a blunder and may rescind his decision following ongoing intensive consultations with relatives and friends.

  9. Mangani, just remain steadfast in this year. MMD are loosing and will be in opposition now. You are one of the few people that will definately be made Cabinet Ministers. Welcom to the Boat

  10. Chief Chtimukulu, Chief Mupenzeni, Chief Lutunga ,Chief Mawata kazembe,Chief Mukuni,Chief Mushili,Chief Mukuli come together and call for NATIONAL PEOPLES COUNCIL..We want YOU to rule this country.

  11. Zambians, I dont know why you are so domant. How can you allow Ruphiah to be abusing funds like this? Get serious you guys. It must take us from USA to raise funds and fund way to eliminate certain characters organising to rig elections. Ok we have no choise but to do so. Mambilima met the president in a short while discussing how she will be anouncing results and you are are just queit. Anyway, we are walking in from afar. Before elections, atleast 5 must be down

  12. Wny is everyone including LT & WD silent on Dickson Jere’s firing? Welcome back down DJ!!! Matero is still not a bad area to live after all!

  13. Marubbish, you are yet to see the sting of government machinery. Ask Mpombo for his testimony mwana. Ndipo uchione che meta Mpala nkhanga

  14. A friend of mine was on same Proflight plane wt Mangani and he told me he was welcomed by a huge crowd and not ma Rubbish yaba Zanis aya. Useless propaganda

  15. im dissapointed with peoples comments!!Did anyone read his resignation!!one which was full of praise for the President and dint blame anyone for his resignation!!yet people still insult him and say he is worthless!!lets not be cheap!!he has made a decision and has not blamed anyone!!i am neither pf nor mmd!!

  16. No 4 MMD Chief Bootlicker, MMD is haemorrhaging at an alarming rate! In less than 2 weeks, 2 senior MMD leaders (one government Minister) have left on their own accord and you say good riddance! Next George Kunda will be joining UPND and you will be saying like FIFA- “WHAT CRISIS?” Even FAZ come out better than MMD because they were able to ‘plaster’ the bleeding by replacing the leaving members immediately! What you need is to start a drip immediately, otherwise, it’s back to Vote for RB and UNIP2 in Zambia the Promised Land, keep the flame burning…..

  17. Some Zedians from so called abroad have very narrow way of arguing on this blog, just go throughh their write ups, very petty and jokyy.I for one expect you that due to massive exposure you would put up intelligent arguments, but look at them, just small issues. From what I have seen, local Zedians do put up intelligent arguments for people to learn from.Too much insults. Please prove to us that you can do better than you are currently doing.Does exposure mean reduction in thought?

  18. BA LUSAKA TIMES BA F.IKALA. STOP PUBLISHING SUCH CRAP. DON’T BE USED BY THE FINISHED RECYCLED BIN (RB). YOU WILL GO DOWN WITH THEM. BE OBJECTIVE BA F.IKALA.

  19. Magani, this is the beggining fo your end………………………………. We jst added him to the unemployment list yapa zed

  20. Imwe there are serious problems all over in MMD countrywide and Eastern Province is no exception. People are fed up with the fake MMD. The writing is very clear on the wall, MMD KUYA BEBELE. The BOAT has arrived Viva Sata………………………:-w:

  21. MMD Chief Bootlicker. Iwe Chikal_a, what Boot Licking is here. Imwe Ba Movement For Mad Dogs you don’t accept people with descening views, that the problem. Mulekeni aleya umwine, this is a democratic society not ubu ubushilu muleleta noyu kolwe, Recycle Bin (RB). Namonaula ichalo, unomwaka muleya MWANYA.

  22. DELEGATE: This is a democratic society iwe Kolwe. What has MMD got to offer that one would miss. It’s all a falacy. MMD is a sinking ship and you think people have reason to return. I am here (SA) for business and will be back home on Saturday to push. We need these *****_S out. Iwe uli ku US, what do you know we mbwa we.

  23. Concerned Citizen, can you please kindly shed some light. Why has he quit?

And why can’t he just tell what his plans are?

  24. Would i be wrong in thinking that while MMD bigwigs are resigning to join PF, is this not a case of MMD cleansing itself politically and PF accepting chaff from MMD thinking its good secondhand political material? People should wake up and think twice, becoz surely this is not about rabbits and rats!

  25. just to read this news coming from a govt. controlled media one can notice how desperate the ruling party is, since you claim to have moved the country forwad economically for the past two decades of your rule, no need to attack mangani just show the people what you have done.but the you to force people to believe good will cost you.

  26. But surely reporting on an issue with photos and a written article versus an article only is bound to make the electorate really wonder who is telling or reporting what may be termed close to the truth by the media. The Post had a picture of the occassion while ZANIS carried an article which was only biased towards the Blue. We are sick and tired of North Korea propaganda and we need a refreshed Frame of Mind from the Media. It is so pathetic in this day and age. Bear in mind that we even have colleagues in Chipata who can tell the TRUE story. Let us let professionalism make the coutry move forward, not bootlicking throwing ones profession to the wind. It is not good !!
