United Party for National Development vice preswident Richard Kapita
United Party for National Development vice preswident Richard Kapita-Matongo resigned because he was not adopted

Former UPND immediate past Pemba Member of Parliament David Matongo has resigned from the party.

And UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says Mr Matongo has left the party because he was not adopted to re-contest the Pemba seat.

Mr Matongo who was until his resignation was also UPND treasurer General says he has left the party because the senior leadership in UPND has lost faith in him and hence his decision to leave in peace.

He says he is hopeful that UPND will reciprocate his gesture and discuss national development issues and not characters.

Mr Matongo says in his letter of resignation made available to ZNBC News in Lusaka that time has come for him to pursue other endeavors.

And Mr Kakoma says it is clear that Mr Matongo was never a true believer of the ideals of the party from the beginning in view of his action.

  1. Matongo and a few others have been there since the KK regime.
Let others take over so you can provide guidance to the future leaders.
All the best and avoid sour grapes Basaa.

  2. Ni ndalamafye ba fwaya ba mambala. Once somebody is not adopted he either resigns or stand as an independent. This just reflects the frustration of losing out on the benefits of being a member of Parilament. Going to Parliament is a lucrative job which people do not want to forego. In practice, there is literally nothing that the MP does to bring development to the constituency. Speaking on behalf of the people as they???? Nothing.

  3. Matongo resigns from UPND. Preventing defection. Please will still resign and defect to PF and MMD. Watch the space and UPND. Ayiona njala. Njala ya muchisa.

  4. HP, FDD AND PF WERE CREATED AFTER THEIR LEADERS RESIGNED FROM MMD IN 2001. PF ROSE FROM BEHIND TO BECOME LARGEST OPPOSITION PARTY OVERTAKING THE ONE TIME BIG CHALLENGER TO MMD, THE UPND. THE UPND IS TRYING BUT HP AND FDD ARE IN A COMA. WHY HAS PF GROWN LIKE THIS? WHY IS IT THAT THE SO CALLED UNEDUCATED SATA HAS PULLED SUCCESSES THAN THE SO CALLED EDUCATED ONES? wish all bloggers the best. lastly i hate useless defections.

  5. I don’t even understand some people. Even when the grassroots do not want them they still insist that they are the best candidates. When they are not selected they resign. Shame…Zambia’s politics of poverty.

  6. Matongo it is indeed a very good move to ditch unda 5 party, just look at da adopted candidates, can someone compaire imbuwa imbuwa, conerius mwiitwa, proud, croud hachizumanana, royd moonga and macdonard siyajunta to matongo? the unswer is no. so hon matongo welcome to uzj

  7. All most all pf mandevu constituency executive members have resigned to join mmd . Makasa who was the chair has since said he has resigned because sata is a dictator . He together with many others ll be officially welcomed in mmd in the next 48 hours . There was confusion yesterday as a group purported to sent by sata went to man handle makasa who has been injured. Police has since launched a man hunt for the pf suspect . Chwe chwe chwe chwe chwe . This marks the end of sata in mandevu .

  8. NOW I AGREE WITH UPND STRATEGIST, ITS GOOD THEY DELAYED ANNOUNCEMENT OF THERE CANDIDATES AS SUCH INDIVIDUALS WOULD HAVE BEEN POACHED BY MMD OR PF

  9. Resignations from a political party does not mean that the party comes to an end. Other people are there to continue and propel the aspirations and vision of the party. There is no party which has not suffered defections because that is the nature of politics. The likes of Ackson Sejani and Emmanuel Hachipuka decided to retire honourably. Those who resign are just trying to hold their parties to ransom. Anyway I wish them well but must also learn to be grateful to the parties and electorates who had accorded them chance of amassing wealth in form of gratuities paid them during the tenure of office as Mps yet no meaningful development resulted in ze constituents they served. Stop blaming senior leadership as no one is interested you terribly failed to perform please go and stay in pc

  10. UPND cannot pretend that David is a non-factor. He was one of the great think tanks and good analysts UPND boasted of. I stopped supporting UPND with the demise of Great Andy (MHSRIP), but I followed with lots of interest, David’s political life. Give credit where its due you Choma chaps ala!! by the way, if u ask me, I am now a staunch PFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!

  11. Good to go and Matongo should just kept quiet he is sour for not having been adopted, period! Let him just start buying those frogs from the kids! The wamuyayaya syndrome even among MP’s must be erased. A two term period should apply to MP’s as well so that orderly succession of generations take root. Well done Hacipuka and Sejani you would have reclaimed your seats hands down! Please help whoever succeeds in your former constituencies to better where where you may have been short!

  12. Mr “mambala says”, note that in the PF camp no one dares to raise acusing fingers to Sata because of fear for their lives. At least there is some measure of human decency in UPND, despite their political immaturity. Try to oppose Sata then hell will descend on you to be physically hounded like a wild pig. Hence, there is no credible comparison between Sata vs HH. We only pray that that peace will prevail after the final downfall of Zondwa Sata.

  13. Its a sad day for choma boys. leaving a gallant party member like D Matongo testifys leadership vaccum in choma boys, am sure they will miss his services he rendered to the party.

  14. All those who have known Matongo will tell you he is an honourable man. His woes with HH started when Matongo pitched for Saki and not HH following the demise of Andy. So, tribalist bigot is the last of things you can accuse the man of. Further, if you are an incumbent MP and your party ditched you, the only honourable thing is to quit. The man is not like Miyanda who was fired from Veep and made Minister of education and yet the idle general hanged around thinking Kafupi’s oil of anointment will land on his gurumuthu, only for it to land on a slumbering Levy mils away!

  15. UPND is a party where only royal people remain as it is the most democratic party. This is a party where you can join and leave, but no one will insult you the way pf does. No one can raise a hand in pf as everything starts and ends with Sata, adoptions were done at his house and no one complained. When Chimumbwa resigned from pf, he was insulted in all languages, and Sata even went on to say, why did you join my party, I never invited you. When Saki could not deliver western province in 2006 to pf, and decided to leave, all insults were on him, and Sata again said, I never invited you to join my party. In pf many are scared to leave because of fear of insults. UPND would just wish you a well, as they know that anyone who is not royal can come and leave at anytime he feels like.

  16. meanwhile upnd adopted candidate for kwacha constituency fail to show up as supprter picks one of them on the sport to replace him. constituency chairman a mr manjimela had tough time to convince one member to volunteer to stand so that they can get funding from the party and avoid embarassment. information obtained in kwacha is that the runnaway candidate in backing joe malanji.

  17. UPND yours is next election, this time arround support RB. I can assure HH will rule Zambia by 2016. Matongo should not resign but follow the foot steps of Hachipuka and allow youngsters to go for it. Kimwa lizoho feela-chweeechwe chwee chweeeeeee.

  18. Why do zambians resign or defect from their parties when elections are around the corner? The reason is the high levels of poverty have led to Zambians to practice politics of the belly. Otherwise, as RB says, izaba nyokola njala. But Zambians should learn to have dignity by always rememring that no individual is bigger that UPND, PF, or MMD.

  19. naturally like your web-site but you need to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I in finding it very troublesome to inform the truth nevertheless I will certainly come back again.
