Kunda refuses to respond to questions , but submits statement to the Mongu Inquiry body

Share

Vice President George Kunda

The commission of inquiry into the Mongu riots of January 14, this year on Thursday morning took former vice president George Kunda to task over what role the former government played in the riots.

The commission wanted Mr. Kunda to explain why the former government allowed the police to use live ammunition.

However, Mr. Kunda opted to submit before the Roger Chongwe commission a statement he presented to parliament on February, 25 on the Mongu riots.

The former vice president then refused to respond to other questions referring to the statement he issued in parliament.

At some point tempers rose as Mr. Kunda accused some commissioners of having taken a position on the matter.

Former home affairs minister Mkondo Lungu says the action taken in Mongu which led to the shooting of two people and over one hundred arrested was taken as a result of the reports received from the security wings.

  1. MKONDO LUNGU – what are those reports which you received from the security wings? Those are the details people want to know. That is why you were voted out in western province because you didn’t care who you shot…you will rot in opposition for that blunder.

  2. These MMD chaps had go too far. They took people for granted. That is why they are now in disarray. I remember in 1991 late Paul Tembo said at some rally that tukoma kachema ne mpanga shikasalangane referring to UNIP then. This is what is happening to MMD.

  3. WHAT REPORTS DID THE SECURITY WINGS BRING FOURTH WHICH LED THEM TO KILLING PEOPLE? IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU AND THE FORMER GOVERNMENT CONFESS THAT YOU RULED WITH TYRANNY AND NO ONE WAS TO MESS AROUND YOU.

  4. Former VP’s refusal to respond to questions paused to him by the Commission of inquiry clearly shows his guilty evil mind,he is such a callous and uncouth person who took pride in the killing innocent and humble people of Barotseland. The whole action by those in Govt then, was barbaric and satanic. The people of the province should rally behind HE President MCS to sort out all the pertinent issues of the land.

  5. Why are these people wasting time!! Liked we have said before nothing will come out of this inquiry. Just give us our share of Kasama that’s it, end of story, full stop!!!

  6. PF, they are good at lying and decieving as they have shown by their many u-turns on their own words.
I hope they will not with the same attitude begin to swindle the public while keeping huge retoric and devissive, divertive propaganda.
If they can lie in full view of the nation on many national matters as seen already in only about two months; what will stop them from lying in private or secrete where they are alone handling our national resources?

  7. The same security wings are still intact and full of tribalistic Bembas.  I am sure that they are very, very keen to shoot more Lozis under another pretext of protecting the Litunga.  Next time, it will be lito ka lito.

    • Everything is about a Bemba to you ne?? are there Bemba police officers in Western Province. guys you were shot and brutalised by your own people on command from state house. Why didnt the police officers refuse to use live amunition or let alone refuse that order. Sort out your shit and grow up everything that goes wrong it a bemba’s fault. I am sick and tired of this one sided mentality that you have cornered your selves into, get out of that tribal cacoon. Why are you always crying when you produced Zambias firts interllectuals, Arther, Sikota, Nakatindi, Aka, Ingonge and a host of others, they built mansions in Lusaka not Western Province who’s to blame?? Bemba’s??? NO SINGLE PROMINENT LOZI EVER INVESTED IN WESTERN PROVINCE is it a Bemba’s fault?? can we stop this hatred please.

  8. Mukose ba Fine. You have 5 years of total madness and i am happy some responsible PF cadres have started realising this.

  9. Kunda and the MMD had become so arrogant they never thought this day would come when someone would question their actions.

Human life is sacred and those who take it from others will eventually pay in this life and the next. I do not see why this case should now not move to the high courts with the charge of manslaughter and excessive use of force. Those who authorised (RB and Kunda) and the fools who pulled the trigger (Kabonde and Musamba) must be locked up without bail. Refusing to answer is not an option. The voices of the murdered will not be silent until justice is served.

  10. A ball is the most undirectional object in the field.
The player kicks it and whatever direction it is directed it will go.
It understands nothing about what is happening; such that even when a defender kicks it in his own goal it will go in.
This is how PF cadres are.
SATA can kick them in any direction he wants they will support.
He can tell them I will bring constitution in 90 days – they clap; I will not do that; they clap.
I will bring back the windfall tax; they clap. I will not bring it back; they clap.
I will scruitnise the Chinese investors; they clap. I will not do so; they clap.
SATA is seing the PF cadres as footballs and sees himself as footballer of the year. I think he will view himself as footballer of the year for the next five (5) years.

    • You still can’t get it in you head that, Sata is president do you? The people of Zambia voted this man in power and out voted whom you desired, so swallow the bullet Mister good for nothing. The man is trying to find out what went wrong in the Mongu riots and let him do that!

  11. Gbagbo the former Ivory Coast dictator was yesterday charged with crimes against humanity and he is in custody. Among the charges are that he ordered security forces to shoot dead the protesters and torture. Gaddafi’s son is awaiting trial in Libya on similar charges. George Kunda and Rupiah Banda commited similar crimes in Mongu, Mazabuka and Luapula and must be handed over to the courts in the Hague to answer charges. It is so painful that to date Kunda and Rupiah still maintain their arrogance and refuse to at least show some remorse and apologise. We want justice!

  12. Was Chongwe as shocked as Zulu when he ‘heard’ the clever submission? remember Zulu had his jaw droppoing moment with Dora. Sitting allowance received for nothing eeeeh

  13. This submission was so easy to receive, Chongwe should consider paying back his sitting allowance to day, Zambians will be $500+ richer if he does the honourable thing.

  14. Kunda swore to the constitution when he was sworn in as MP and Vice President, he held a bible and swore to an oath greater than that commission. So when he presented that statement in Parliament it was not a joke. So why should he be same things that are on record? If for example Kunda decided to say something, chances are that he could have contradicted himself with a statement he made, so the best way is to stick to the statement. Do you know Chiluba refused to swear in court? Let Zulu, get that statement and use it against Kunda or something but no new thing will be said. Zulu and Sata are just wasting our time.

  15. Let’s conclude this issue. The thing is, Zambians want a federal republic with Barotseland as a starting point.

  16. Leave Kunda alone. They were dealing with people who wanted to overthrough Litunga, declare Western Province independent and hack all non-Lozis to death! Instead Kunda and his team should be given medals for outstanding performance. These are Lazy lozis. Some of us we have invested in other provinces, working very hard and married other tribes. Dont let us be hacked mina linoha! Butata bwa mulozi ki ku ilata ahulu, linja. You are turnishing the image other hard working tribesmen.

    • Stop that crap, firstly you are not a Lozi and stop insulting the Lozi people. If you were a genuine Lozi you would acknowledge the underdevelopment in Barotseland which the people are fighting for. There is no justification for taking one’s life, if this was done to your tribesman you would have reasoned a little. You didnot marry from other tribes that’s your tribe. So let President Sata do what he promised to do for Barotseland!

  17. The commision sure of the pipo you call Kunda for what? Kunda was not the commander of the police service. The president of any country is the commander of the police.Remember the shooting of 1986 in over food riot. The riot at UNZA.normally you charge the one who shot live bullet. There is no president in the world who can order to soot to kill. The police are the ones responsible.Yes life was lost but then what is the way forward.we should respect the views of others.Tom Blair and Goarge bush made decisions but Obama or camerorn have not set commision of iqury.

  18. Kunda,my man. you are wiser and well advanced in your thinking and reasoning.the chaps on that panel can never match your capacity to handle this issue .keep ir up.

  19. Fine is off-topic and therefore not worth attention for now. Dora was quiet. Liato quiet. Kunda quiet. This sort of arrogance makes it hard to forgive anyone, and even if they were innocent, it makes them look very guilty.

  20. They say kabwalala ni pakuboko. That does not mean that nga taumusangile ninshi tebile. It only means that the tracks which they have covered properly will not be known, lucky them, as the law has these loopholes. Never the less, let’s hope that from these actions we are setting a precedent for the future, and putting good laws in place such that even we dont steal, or if we do, face similar consequences. Let’s not set lawless precedents. so far so good, as we are just investigating and questioning, and we’ve only locked up one who surely, has enough evidence to be locked and questioned. Weak charge though. I would have thought hoarding is part of what he did.

  21. Lozi men you are full of Masipa we need to get rid of you once and for all, just leave the women behind for us to breed with

  22. #15, Gilbert
It is people like you who still thinks Hitler or Idi Amin had nothing to do with the deaths of millions of innocent people in their countries.Start using your brains and understand what chain of command means. Police as individuals knows that they cannot shoot innocent protesters with live bullets without orders from their superiors.

  23. There is no justification for taking one’s life, let them be answerable for their actions. Kunda is mum? then torture him, he will speak up!

  24. Kunda is one of the MOST POWERFUL lawyers in ZAMBIA.

These Commission people can not match to his legal competence. I am sure what DORA, KUNDA were doing is supported by the law somewhere in the books.

    Commissions to no were.

So now who is responsible for the NDOLA Killings,. SATA

  25. #16 Umwana wa mazwake kona aukona kun’ola cwalo. You have not lost any any close friend or relative that’s why you have an audacity to praise Kunda the Butcher, may his running stomach continue to ravage his poor soul.

  26. Kunda is a very clever lawyer and among the best on the Zambian scene and Commissioners know it. It’s no wonder Levy got him on board as part of his team you can’t force him to say things he is not guilty of. The Commisioners have drawn a blank on this one. He’s my man I enjoy each time he speaks

  27. It is not people who where killed please as per media reports. Over 50 people where killed in cold blood my fellow bloggers. Ask the people from Western Province they will tell you.
The police had misjudge the cloud and started firing tear gas at the cloud to disperse that’s when the cloud when run amok. The police only did that to defend themselves against the Hungry Mob.
They were below a minimum number to contain the Mob which had gather to discuss  the Barotse Agreement of 1964. Its surprising that despite the govt bringing close to 400 men and Women in Uniforms they failed to contain the situation peacefully.
