A Higer luxury bus that was allegedly used by former president, Rupiah Banda, during last year’s campaigns has been seized by law enforcement officers in Lusaka.
The bus that was going round with registration number ALC 4686 during Mr Banda’s election campaigns has resurfaced with a personalised registration number, ZNE 2113.
Spokesperson for the Government investigative wings, Charity Chanda, said the bus was impounded in Lusaka on Monday.
The bus was found in Makeni area where it was seized together with a Toyota Hilux 4×4.
Ms Chanda could not say from whose premises the vehicles were found, saying investigations had started to establish the source of money used to procure the property.
Administrative assistant in Mr Banda’s office, Mikatazo Wakumelo declined to comment on the matter because Mr Banda was in Chipata attending a funeral.
Security wings have been investigating suspected corruption and theft in the previous administration and more than 40 motor vehicles belonging to the MMD have been impounded.
The MMD has contested the seizure in court.
President Michael Sata in December instructed the law enforcement agencies to investigate the source of US$ 1 million (more than K5 billion) held in an account for Mpundu Trust which was linked to Mr Banda and his family.
The directive came in the wake of revelations that Mpundu Trust had unexplained funds in one of the commercial banks in the country.

why seizng it?evry party had resources for campagning.leave MMD alone.so they are stil t threat ah?
What is the explanation on the $27,000 confiscated at OR Tambo airport many moons ago?
@ no. 2 like! … who’s fooling who?
Why was it seized? suspected plunder? why not investigate first and then impound later. You even mention Mphundu Trust, what’s the progress? because looks like the Fund is a clean business deal void of what The Post were purporting:’money laundering’.They have even kept quite. What a paper!
that bus is not for the mmd coz the colour and reg-number haz since been changed. Y?
Twanaka nenu ba Police govt. The patriotic fools can’t talk about developoment all they sing and dream is MMD.
wait UNTIL MMD CHOOSES NERVOUS AS PARTY PRESIDENT. you WILL NOT EVEN SLEEP AS PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY PASSED A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN YOUR GOVT IN SIX MONTHS WHAT A SHAME.
Please, please, leave Mr Banda alone. He has behaved in a very civilised manner since handing over. Please leave him alone!!!!!!
Oh leave RB and his property alone already! You think a bus and a few bicycles could explain the declining strength of the Kwacha.
Satanic GVT LEAVE HIM ALONE
POOR Banda, you left chiluba off the hook for stealing from Zambians. He has gone where he can not be brougt back to stand trial because you made it difficult for Zambians to be given justice, Now you are standing in for him, you signed his bond. I am not sorry for you. You must pay for sins. You too Zambians for granted for too long. We loved Mwanawasa but you wanted ti humiliated him over Chiluba. Good Ridance. But Cobra must also be careful/
The behaviour of the PF Govt is extremely pathetic. It is an established fact that all political parties in Zambia, including the PF, do have both physical and fluid (cash) resources to sustain the running of party matters. For instance, UNIP had numerous infrastructures that included buildings along Cairo Rd, crashing stones & block making machineriesw along Great East Rd and a Motor Garage at the southern end of Freedom Way in Lusaka. This witch-hunting by the PF is a waste of Govt resources. WHEN WILL THE PF GOVT EVER SETTLE DOWN TO PLAN AND EFFECT DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMMES FOR THE NATION? These harassments of opposition parties are sickening. The youths want jobs – not jokes – now.
Leave RB and his MMD buses alone. Here is a party with a vision to get support thru its business activities. You have no vision for job creation except for accumulation of rubbish in Lusaka. Your party is just rubbish like the rubbish in Lusaka.

When the story on Mpundu Trust started I got excited and thought Banda would be nabbed. But then when the transactions on the trust were revealed there was nothing criminal. All one can point at is that there was unfair advantage given to Banda by the Bank in that the huge loans were given without current tangible security but then thats the Bank’s prerogative. No state funds just a complex business financing transaction. I bet the same thing will come up from the bus issue. Who ever was/is Banda’s financial adviser is definately not at the level of those investigating Banda.
Impound then investigate later. Clearly, the new IG is just as robotic as the old one. People have rights. 90days and counting but busy creating ministries and impounding chinese buses that any pauper can buy. What a shame!!! Where is the economic policy???
This is all you silly voters fault! If you smile at a fool bathing, he will end up eating the soap to keep you intertained! You punks applauded Sata when he started his silly anti Rupiah ventures. Now, aenderera. Live with what you wanted and voted for!
This fight between MMD and PF is going on at the expense of meaningful development. We still havent seen any campaign promises being actioned yet and I dont know what direction the govt it taking towards job creation, improving health, education, housing and infrastructure. Shit loads of garbage have been piling up in Lusaka and the council is not doing anything. 30years on after independence and Zambia is still in the doldrums. Is this the change we asked for????
It seems the constable government has nothing to offer to Zambia, but just punish RB. whenis this policeman going to ever perform. he has no agenda and thus the reason why he cant talk sence. empty vesel bata nabo why sure. just concerntrate on your work mind you time isrunning out, infact you have proved tobe the worst President of Zambia. your face tell it all. we are tired RB is on here. please we berg you. move on with development. what do you have on the table for the Zambia people. come on talk sence ok. you are no longer in the street where you used to throw stones, but you are now a leader. mind if God give you life upto the end of the term, soon it will be you that will face the same from the next leader, so wacth outlol.
