Fred Mmembe is pushing his Luck too far

Share

Fred Mmembe

By Elisha Musoma (ZRP President)

I strongly feel that Fred Mmembe is pushing his luck too far by trying to scandalise anyone who doesn’t agree with him in any way. I know that has been his character, but I’m saying this in relation to what he said or wrote in his Sunday’s tabloid about his honour judge Nigel Mutuna after delivering judgement in the case between the state and JNC holdings and Post newspaper ltd for which he is the editor, that he expected this kind of behaviour and conduct.

To the contrary it’s Fred Membe’s behaviour and conduct that can be questioned. No doubt he had expected the courts to quash the case and allow him not to pay back the money that he owes the bank because he is Sata’s senior cadre who sings the highest praise and support for him even when it’s not necessary and he expect Sata to treat him like levy Mwanawasa did to him when he was alive.

We know that DBZ has been ordered by the powers that be, to discontinue the case or else why would the bank not strive to get its money back like it has always done to other people? Can Mmembe deny that his Post newspaper and HNC Holdings owe the bank?

To me it’s him whose behaviour and conduct are horrible and not the judge and people like Dr Rodger Chongwe should be the last person to question the integrity of judges.

What Mmembe should not forget is that Zambia is bigger than him or Sata and very soon they will also get out of power and be made to account for their deeds and behaviour. We know that had Mwanawasa been alive, no doubt Mmembe’s companies should have kept borrowing billions of kwacha from the public institutions as evidenced by the fact that former finance minister Ngandu Magande was even soliciting for more loans for Mmembe’s companies even when they had failed to pay back other loans.

Had Levy been alive no one in Zambia was even going to know about the tax evasion at airport and the careless lending of huge of money by public institutions to few individuals. Mmembe expects President Michael Sata to treat him like Mwanawasa did, but will Sata continue to flout rules to continue pleasing his so called senior choir master?

Judge Mutuna delivered the judgement where he ordered Mmembe’s Post Newspaper and JNH holdings to pay back the billions that they owed Development Bank of Zambia.

Surely the fact that the judgement did not go Mmembe’s way does not warrant careless attacks on the honourable judge and competent courts with good track records. Please let’s all not allow a situation where the courts only become competent when the judgement goes in our favour and when it goes contrary even when we are wrong, then the courts and our judges become the subject of ridicule.

As far as Mmembe is concerned, he is untouchable and only others should be made accountable or go to jail and not him or his surroundings. But the question I would pose to everyone is, is Mmembe surely as white as he has successfully painted himself over the years?

If the judgement was delivered at the time of president Rupiah Banda, no doubt Mmembe was going to cry foul that it was influenced by State house as he always did when ever any judgement never went his way. Does Mmembe even want to question how he got those loans of billions of Kwacha from public institutions because we all know the kind of names he called Mwanawasa before and after the loans and other favours. Before Mwanawasa was a cabbage among other things who was very corrupt as far as Mmembe was concerned, but the moment he allowed them to evade tax at airport and gave them billions of loans from govt banks, the once corrupt and cabbage president became normal and a Saint.

We have seen this even now the way Fred Mmembe is praising Sata, as if it was not him who called president Sata names before. We also know that Membe’s support for Micheal Sata is not genuine but it’s just because they are personal benefits as seen by the awarding of good appointments to his surrounding by the president and the discontinuation of his cases among other things. However, it should be plainly told to the man Mmembe that, it is said that you cannot fool all the people all the time. In fact some people you can’t not fool. Not every one of us in Zambia believes that Mmembe is the saint he claims himself to be.

Judiciary should be respected.

  1. Mmembe should be reminded that power is in the pipo….its hiw time now to celebrate, time for pay back will surely come….

  2. Jst wait untill i com in power!i will sweep all ds mess n hold them accountable under wt so!!!mulandu siubola!let me warn Sata n hs cadres in advans never to accuse me of witch hurt coz we r surely wochg!!!

  3. Fred should have respect for the Judiciary instead of rediculing them like that in the media. What goes around comes around and whatever fred is sowing now, this also he will reap. He will need the Judiciary when someone owes him money and doesn’t want to pay. please Fred, for once in your life do the right thing and pay your debt.

  4. Seems the post personnel are becoming big headed and some are even occupying diplomatic offices.. Days are number they should looked at what happened to UNIP and now MMD. If PF are not careful they are next

  5. No wonder mmembe hates HH because HH refused to be used by mmembe…people of zambia you can know see who is bad….Mmembe is busy scandarilsing HH because he knows if HH was to come in power he will not allow the nonsese of HH not wanting to pay back the loans he got. Mmembe pay back what belongs to the people of zambia. the money you collected at DBZ is tax payers money and must be paid back.

  6. This embici!e ZRP chap who ever he is is in actual fact boosting Mmembes public profile. Thank you.
When people open a discussion with the words “I STRONGLY FEEL……………” then you know that they are going to say absolutely nothing constructive.

With this very poor calibre of alleged or imaginary opposition, no wonder political parties in power run for 20 years instead of the 10 or less that is ideal.

Oh, and please keep your feelings for your wife and girl friends, lovers, family, etc. Not public because no one will respect you

  7. Fred thinks he is zambia and zambia is fred.He thinks he has brain washed all zambians with his holier than thou attitude. What goes around comes around.Just one day zambians will know who this mafia really is.

  8. This is a one term government. It is a govt formed around a one person centred party. Pf is sata and sata is pf. Pf has a short shelf live because it is not and institution. Fred the pest knows this, that is why he is fighting tooth and nail to get rid of the opposition parties. And all this is done to protect his criminally acquired wealth. Fred and nchito just pay back the money. No amount of editorializing will save you!

  9. Elisha Musoma, you are a fool!! Do not comment for the sake of it. Do you even know the details of the case to insunuate that the case has been compromised by the state? Such lopsided thinking unfortunately is what charactarises most Zambians thinking, who im sure are in agreement with your nonsensical opnion! Grow up iwe clown!

  10. Anyone who still has respect for the judiciary in Zambia has to be the most foolish soul on earth. It is a very well known fact that Zambian judges, starting with the JC himself, are all for sale to the highest litigant.

    • You are lying, you go to Zambia steal and allow yourself to get caught, then try to bribe the judges to let you free.

    • Yes #11, go get caught stealing in Zed, and try to bribe a judge to set you free. You’ll be disillusioned very fast.

  11. This is an interesting case.Nchito  is involved in this case and would want to have this case discontinued. However this would be a conflict of interest.Fred Mmembe really has placed his friends in high places. The Government media is controlled by his people, the DPP is his lawyer, the president is his stooge…..wow he really played his cards but power is fickle and his days are numbered.Indeed Zambia is bigger than Mmembe or Sata or Nchito….If you don’t believe where me where was the great Gadaffi found hiding

  12. This guy Fred Meembe thinks he is the most educated man and the most intelligent yet in the actual sense he is not.The only reason his paper gained popularity is because it was the only private paper which in some ways provided checks and balances to the then govt. Now that it has become Sata owned,it has become as useless as ………….Listen Fred you are going down together with your frend PF.

  13. Ka fred home membe will pay for his deeds one day. Someone else who you will not have campained for will be in power one day and We zambians will demand justice. Foolish membe. who the hell does he think he is?

  14. EVEN A VILLAGER KNOWS THAT WHEN YOU BORROW YOU PAY BACK…SO WHY IS IT THAT MMEMBE DOES NOT WANT TO PAY BACK…ONE DOES NOT NEED TO BE A LEARNED JUDGE TO PRESIDE OVER SUCH A STRAIGHT FORWARD CASE.YOU BORROW YOU PAY BACK THAT SIMPLE. SO FRED MMEMBE SHOULD PAY BACK ORHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE BALLIFFS POUNCING ON HIM WHICH WILL BE EMBARRASING…

  15. These are the complexities of un principled people attaining power through deception of ‘scrach my back and will do same to yours’. Mmembe has not seen the fruits of these deceptive antics and now resorts to an almost ‘rebelious and chiky’ move to either embarass Sata or claim a ‘Defacto president’, hence his behaviour towards Judge Mutuna. Mmembe is currently co presiding the national affairs. Mr Sata’s presidency is compromised because of a chain of pay back he has to fulfil. Zambians know now that Mahtani of Finance bank sponsored the PF elections and was paid back, GBM contributed finance to PF and is now being paid back through transportation fuel gate scandal, Post news papers boys and girls were paid back by diplomatic postings and the only one remaining is Mmembe.

  16. Looking at the issue objectively would have demanded tha author to start with “when the whole case commenced”. Secondly, the true facts of the case; the people involved and how the information was twisted by the previous government. Hate him or like him, Mmembe and the organisation called “the post” have shown everyone what it means to be patriotic and stand for the truth. He may have made mistakes, but how many of us can stand the persecution the post faced in the last 20 years of MMD? If he owes, its his problem; if he is owed, its his problem. Aviation industry went, and is still going through difficulties. Had they stollen even a penny, RB would have nailed the chap. So, grow up bane

    • let mmembe pay back the loan that is all what zambians are asking for…he borrowed so he must pay back..and not these primary school night school anticts he is using..they won’;t help him..the maoney is tax payers money

  17. Mr Elisha whatever, no one is stopping you from starting your own newspaper. Especially when you apparently have as much moral high ground as you are excreting.

So stop being a cry baby and get real things done like demonstarting NOW how you are improving the lives of Zambians, not just yapping non-sense when nobody but your own limitations are pulling you down.

As you have not improved the lives of anyone single Zambian, we can correctly deduce that your misleadership is there only for personal gain. Guess which scrap heap we have allocated you too.

  18. Mutuna’s judgement for Mmembe to pay K14 billion to DBZ has rattled Mmembe and gone bezerk. To show Mr Sata that Mmembe is mmembe, he turns against the rule of law to defy who is incharge in the nation. Sata is impotent, he only talks corruption of biycles, petty cash, and some chaps burrying money and prompts up Kabimba and his Asebele- Bob Sichinga to sing fake songs of corruption while Sata’s frustration is vented on mourners threatening them of dealing with them. Mmembe is untouchable Sata can only miserably watch. Who is in charge? Thats what deception of scrach my back and yours tomorrow can do to un pricipled person/politician like Sata.

  19. There is a saying here in Joburg that goes “one days is one day”.
Mr (or is it Miss?) Mmembe has continuously exhibited tendencies of being “above the law” for some time. But this behaviour has become more apparent after Ukwa became president. One case in point is as mentioned in this article where he ridiculed a judgement to the point others may deem borders on contempt of the courts. Mmembe should be reminded that “one day is one day”

  20. The unholy alliance of Ukwa/Mmembe/Mahtani/Nchito is in full effect! Let them enjoy it while they can. Fortunately, God has a way of unfolding things and one day the truth will surface. The bembas say, “umulandu taubola”, so rest assured, Ukwa and his minions will answer for each and every one of their crimes.

  21. THIS IS A REALLY ANIMAL FARM REPLAYED.HOW CAN MR MMEMBE BE SO ARROGANT TO THE COURTS OF ZAMBIA WITH IMPUNITY?

WE EXPECT OUR COURTS TO BE RESPECTED AND JUDGEMENTS IF WRONG APPEALED AGAINST THROUGH APPROPRIATE CHANNELS?

WHAT IS BEING CREATED BY THESE UNTOUCHABLES IS NOT GOOD FOR PF MORE STATE HOUSE WHO HAVE COME TO CLEAN UP THE SYSTEM

  22. A MUST READ FOR COMING FROM A WISE COMMENTATOR. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH MOST OF THE BLOGGERS THAT FRED M’MEMBE HAS USED HIS PAPER “THE POST” MOSTLY FOR PERSONAL MOTIVE. WHOEVER DOES ANYTHING WRONG OR DIFFERS WITH M’MEMBE THE POST WILL ALWAYS HAVE NEGATIVE VIEWS. LOOK AT HH, LOOK THE LATE CHILUBA (NOT TO SAY HE DIDN’T DO WRONG THINGS) AND OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE OFFENDED M’MEMBE, AND WHOEVER IS IN GOOD RELATIONSHIP HE WILL DEFEND EVEN WHEN HE TRULY KNOWS THE ISSUE IS INDEFENSIBLE. A MESSAGE TO YOU MR. M’MEMBE IF YOU’RE READING: DON’T USE YOU PAPER TO KILL ENEMIES OR SOUGHT PERSONAL DIFFERENCES BUT BE IMPARTIAL AND PROFESSIONAL BECAUSE YOU PAPER “THE POST” HAS INCREASINGLY BECOME UNPROFESSIONAL OVER THE YEARS

  23. People who read The Post end up catching the same spirit of Mmembe – full of anger, rebellious, anti govt, anti-establishment etc etc. Just look out for these traits and ask them what newspaper they feed on. You are what you eat.

  24. Musoma, what is ZRP, you were not among the presidents in the last elections. are you the one who did not have money to lodge in the papers? I ask because you sound bitter. What has Meembe’s debt got to do with Sata? I am sure Meembe is not looking for a job anywhere. Concentrate on campaigning for 2016, but I wonder which newspaper you will use to do this. Good luck because you need it although you will never rule this country.

  25. ATLEAST MMEMBE AND THE POST EDITORS ARE ABLE TO WALK TALL AND DONR HIDE UNLIKE THESE MASHROOMING ONLINE COWARD EDITORS WHO DONT EVEN COME OUT TO DEFEND THEIR LIES AND FABRICATED STORIES, BRAVO MMEMBE AND DA POST!

    • We call this objectivity. Thanks. Its the strategy that a grade 2 constable used to become President of Zambia. Its real, and we all can see it. The educated lack this element hence the hiding into online fabrication of stories that promote bitterness. Meanwhile, they are gunning for 2016. Well, for as long as theirs are votes from their “online reader”, it will take 200years for them to get a president. In short, they reject that which is staring them in the face; reality.

  26. We told you, what happens when Satanists regroup you do not get justice except when it goes in their favour. M’membe has been mute since his party of choice is in power an also so that he can pull strings here and there in his favour. Our only consolation is that we are mortal beings and also that the people of Zambia will one day realize that they need a new adminstration. Those in the offices should just keep these records. Someone will account for those transactions. we all pay for our sins at one point or the other. Even the third force will.

  27. #29 Fyanshi Wayambile yes Mmembe and his boys are now walking tall that Ukwa is in power.Let them pay the K14billion they owe since its no issue.Maybe Mathani can lend them money.

  28. Surely the democracy of M’membe(The Post) will land our country in deep trouble but as long as the force outside of M’membe’s click is greater we shall prevail. Since his party came to power the Ka News paper is flat only those who were adicted to the sensational stories are still finding it interesting. These guys are already promoting the Daily Mail, they want to shift attention from the post. The Daily mail will now start singing the Malupenga,M’Membe hymns. Suerly Zambia is greator than these guys.

  29. All who’ve setup media points are probably just empire building like media heads like to do. Bubbles burst. Watching a squirming Murdoch as we speak. Probably not as worried about UK as when he has to face the U S backlash lurking in the fringes. Live by the pen then you die by the pen. Wouldn’t worry too much about media types. They can only do what their readership accepts or go bust :) I don’t follow him much as a person but am curious how he got from unfairly jailed editor to current. Perhaps power breeds ego breeds over confidence breeds loss of personal direction. That said having journalists as diplomats is not necessarily a bad thing. Just open the door to the diplomatic school for a new breed of diplomats.

  30. if mmembe is corrupt he will pay for his corruption one day……….the case of DBZ loans and the like can be sorted out in th courts of law……….

but he has no right to attack the jusdiciary after losing cases……………esp in this era. then he too ahs something he is hiding.

  31. Mmembe was the best thing that had ever happened to Zambia with his newspaper. But then good things do not last forever unfortunately. Mmembe outlived his usefulness by harbouring too much bitterness for other people. This has resulted in his undoing. Eventually, God says enough is enough. This is the point where we are. His end is nigh and it will not be pleasant by any measure. Just a taste of the views above apart from a few diehard Mmembestas are all he can show for for his past good work when his paper was called the Weekly Post, the paper whose missing of a publication felt like you had missed something unmissable. I stopped buying this paper when I was in Zambia because it was just full of poison (more like bile). What a waste.

  32. Todays newspapers QUOTE.
The daily mail has increased sales by 100% and soon it will be the most popular newspaper.

    BYE BYE FREDDY!
    Your days are numbered.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

    • Yes they remain behind as they do not have a looming US$4m (to only one of three institutions)!! Better there than ahead with that judgement! lol

  33. Post is a PF now.george chella was a post reporter and now special assistant to the president. Correct me. So now he has gone to membe and asked him to keep his as…… Shut

  34. Every one seems to be missing the point here. Why didn’t judge Mutuna let Judge Wood deal with the matter and instead applied unorthodox methods to retrieve the case? there in lies the answer. To see justice, you must be prepared to stand up for yourself. Secondly, it’s not only in Court that you get justice.
