Wild animals cause havoc in Lundazi

Share

Wild animals are terrorizing villagers and ravaging crops in chief Kazembe’s area in Lundazi district in Eastern Province.

Chieftainess kazembe stated that despite reporting the mater to Zambia Wild life Authority (ZAWA) in Lundazi, nothing has been done to stop the animals, especially elephants and buffaloes, from causing more havoc.

She charged that it was unfortunate that ZAWA officers have failed to intervene in the matter by cropping the animals and feared that human life might be lost to the beasts.

The traditional leader also expressed fear that if the animals are not stopped from ravaging the fields, people in the valley area will be faced with starvation this year.

She named the affected villages as Chibeza, Mtimbasonje, Kampamba, Mkwinda, Joka, Chibande, Chikwekwe, Chitete and Chilomo.

Meanwhile, Chieftainess Kazembe has complained of the critical water shortage in her area, saying all the boreholes have dried up forcing villager to share water from shallow wells with wild animals.

She said the few boreholes in villages and schools including rivers have dried up.

She has since appealed to government to intervene in the matter.

  3. What kind of crops which are still in fields by June in Eastern province where they grow maize? Chief Kazembe, its best to be straight forward just kindly ask: “Mr. Sata, may you please allow us slaughter 1 elephant & 2 buffaloes please, my villagers are tired of eat mbeba/mice everyday”

  4. #2 Reflector: that’s a good reflection: animals are just asking villagers to pay for their water since human boreholes dried up.
More work for Judge Chikopa, to head a tribunal in case between Animals vs humans in Chiefdom Kazembe.

  5. Why should this be happening in my beloved country? We cant even tame swine or whatever it is! when are we going to protect our people and make the country a better place to be? This really sucks!!!

  6. just kill and eat those baffaloes , now when you kill thats when you see the efficiency of ZAWA they will be quick to arrest you, when you need their help they wont come

  7. @ NostradanUS no# 8 and 9, a little education for you, Eastern province has the capacity to feed the whole of Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe. mbebas are eatern by Ngonis( some chewas and Nsengas not SENGAS) not all other easterners. It it zambia’s largest producer of peanuts, we are in competition for rice output with western povince. maize, millet, sogum, soya etc. Oh! don’t forget game meat. Our game parks are some of the most wildlife populated in Zambia, due to our sound conservation practices, need I say more. No chitemene in Lundazi my Mbuya.

  8. Its very sad animals should not rule our land.what is happening in lundazi needs quik attention
    by zawa offiicers.

  9. Will ZAWA act as swiftly as they do when they catch a poacher?
