Share

Senior Chief Inshindi of Zambezi district in North western province has finally handed over instruments of power to government which he took custody of after dethroning chieftainess Nyakuleng’a last month.

Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Permanent Secretary, Coillard Chibbonta, confirmed to ZANIS in an interview today that Senior Chief Inshindi handed over the instruments of power back to government at 10:00 hours yesterday in Zambezi through the Zambezi District Commissioner, Lawrence Kayumba.

President Micheal Sata instructed Senior Chief Inshindi last month to hand over instruments of power and allow her continue as chief but he has been defiant to do so.

The President also warned Senior Chief Inshindi of being dethroned if he fails to comply with the instruction and further directed Mr Chibbonta to withdraw instruments of power from him.

Senior Chief Inshindi dethroned Chief Nyakuleng’a last month.

And chieftainess Nyakuleng’a also confirmed that she has been told that senior Chief Inshindi, who is her elder brother, has given back to government her instruments of authority.

Mr Chibbonta said government will soon hand over the instruments of power to her royal highness since senior Chief Inshindi has now complied with what it requested.

    • As the tabwa would say, nga “kuchapa indoshi,” they would start with you pantu if you heard that President Micheal Sata nindonshi, to whom did you hear this and can you substantiate your claim? Don’t attract the government to come after you for lying against the president, unless you have proof. Bakamuchapi bakabalilapo ukuchapa no kunwisha kalola iwe. Ukubepesha umuntu ubuloshi unless you are one too. Delve into issues that you will not regret instead of throwing such archaic tantrums on the president. He will get angry on day and trust me, you will be found if so wishes. You are luck because he looks at children like you as his grandies.

  1. Since when did chiefs hand over power to government, the powers of a chief come from the people and a chief rules till he or she dies, there is is too much circus in Zambia these days. Pa Zed zoona chani masobela ayo

  2. With Sata anything goes.He will even appoint a market committee chairman.he is trying to micromanage the country.guess what he is doomed for failure.

  3. Honestly speaking Sata is very handsome compared to rupiah Banda, same age but one looks sexier than the other.

  4. Ka Nubian Princess. You are a funny character. However, such things as ubuloshi are highly speculative, very difficult to prove. Even in court you, the accuser, can be at pains to substantiate your claim. You’ ve got to be one to be sure. OK, I think that Sata is just a typical Bisa character. Among the Ungas, Kabendes, Ng’umbos, Batwas and others, Bisas are known to be hard hearted, tough and uncompromising.

  5. It is common to hear a distraut mother scolding a child pa ng’anda in Kabende, “Alale uyu mwaike ukubipa umutima, ukubati mu Bisa…”. I am not saying that Sata alibipa umutima, awe. I am just giving you a small snipet of how we live amongst ourselves in the Bemba Group of Tribes. I love Sata maningi…nici fye mwe chalo tamumona bwino. He has grown older now, but Zambia need a tough democrat like him.

  6. INSTRUMENT OF POWER COMES FROM THE EXECUITIVE TO REGOGNISE A CHIEFDOM,ITS GIVEN A FLAG,CORT OF ARM LOGO,A REGOGNITION CERTIFICATE WHICH MAKES A CHIEF MAKE PLANS ON THE LAND THEY PRESIDE AND APPLY THE RULE OF LAW IN COURT,SO ISHINDI WENT TO GRAB THAT FROM THE SISTER ON ASSESSION THAT SHE WAS FAILING TO RULE AS A CHIEF

  7. king cobra hyena is not a king but a president. A president is a servant of the people. He is a civil servant.where has he got the powers to instruct and dethrone chiefs.chiefs are appointed or removed by their subjects e.i. indunas only of that particular chief not any other. The president for his information is also a subject to the chiefs, but he is not appointed by people to be an induna. So how can a mere subject who is not an induna give directves to the chief.

  8. We have a constitution and yet people are speculating about instruments of power for chiefs. READ! oxmos #17, thanks for your candid clarification! Nubian Princess #1 when something is incomprehensible to you doesn’t mean you should gather around night fires to discuss how pigs will fly… cool it!

  9. # 1. It is very true and was confirmed the night he was flying from wherever. His advance party shook the whole Lusaka at 03.21 am.

  10. Ba Kapandula you are ignorant. Chiefdoms are gazetted institutions of traditional governance. They are recognised in different capacities such as subchief, chief, senior chief and paramount chief. Government pays them a salary and they have a house of chiefs, and a ministry of chiefs and traditional affairs. They are given symbolic artefacts as instruments of power. Mwaumfwa bakalamba?

  11. Chieftenss Nyakulen’ga is chief Nshindi’s immediate younger sister and I don’t understand why they couldn’t solve the issue between the two of them.May be the sister was staborn cos she knows she has the support of the PF government.

  12. Don’t we have other serious things for the president to do? isn’t there other delegated officials for that kind of work? Or may be what we have in Zed is a control freak mumbwe that want to be seen, heard doing every thing useless and but none that is serious – like unemployment, cleaning our cities, improving health care, building better roads, new infrastructure, bringing normality to civil service, etc

  13. How are they going to work together since thje senior chiefteness reports to chief Nshindi? The government should have left the issue to the subjects or other elders and chiefs to sort out.Its like you discipline your subordinate and he runs to the CEO cos they get on well and you’re told to withdraw the charge, this causes resentments in an organisation. The root cause should have been sorted out first.

  14. What were the reasons for dethroning nyakulenga?what were the reasons for the directive to give back “instruments of power”?were there proper conflict resolution procedures followed or it was just a directive with the threat to dethrone the dethroner(inshindi)?making directives through the media definitely not best way to resolve conflicts.GRZ need to pull up socks in all such matters

  15. No. 17, Oxmos, Good information to our readership of this media bcoz some just comment without understanding the subject matter. A chief needs Govt recognition for them to govern their chiefdoms hence they are given such instruments of power. Of course they are born as chiefs or heirs to the throne. Imagine a chief working alone without the support or Govt recognition – thats agony… Shaka fought for his recognition throughout his life.Thanx

  16. What reasons were given by Ishindi for the action that he took against Nyakuleng’a? Did it have to take threats from the president for Ishindi to buckle? Sata has humiliated this Senior Chief.

  17. Ishindi was being a bully and the indunas of Nyakuleng’a were fed up trying to reason with him and reported him to he minister in charge of chiefs and traditional affairs, who then commanded Ishindi in the name of the president to hand back the instruments power. The president as an individual does not need to intefere in anything for his name to be used. The presidency is an institution of the state and can be used for the betterment of the state in any dispute. So those commenting about this out of ignorance and spite for HEMCS, should get some education basic civics.
I am very happy that chavaunists like Ishindi are being taught to respect women, who play a major role in our tradition set ups.

  18. the ngwechee group is writing ill about chief ishindi because they want to take opportunistic of nyakuleng’a and the area beyond. ishindi seeing this, had to do what he did for the beter of the lundas. No weakness is allowed in the mwata yanvo clans. sata did not consult.he acted like a police favouring the first repoter in a case.
