Pan African banking group, Ecobank has revealed that over USD 25 million has been injected in its Zambian operation in the last three years ago of its existence.
Ecobank Group Chief Executive Officer Arnold Ekpe said the Zambian unit has continued receiving support from the Group Office in its efforts to provide world class banking and financial services.
Mr. Ekpe said the Group is in consultations with the government and the Bank of Zambia on how Ecobank can contribute to deepen financial markets in the country.
He also stated that Ecobank does not have any difficulties meeting the K520 billion new minimum capital requirements for international banks by December this year.
Mr. Ekpe was speaking in an interview this morning on the sidelines of an investors and clients meeting organised by Ecobank to celebrate the bank’s third anniversary in Zambia at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka.
He said the Group is highly liquid with a solid financial base and is open to discussions with the Zambian government to support its efforts in infrastructural development.
Meanwhile, Ecobank Zambia Board Managing Director Charity Lumpa said the bank continued increasing its branch network and hopes to open four new branches by year end.
Ms. Lumpa said Ecobank has just opened an agency in Chibombo, becoming the first bank to have a presence in the area.
She said Ecobank has unmatched expertise in cross regional transactions and offers world class banking solutions.
