Police deny UPND a permit to hold a political rally this Sunday

Share

Police in Lusaka have again denied a permit to the opposition UPND to hold a public rally at Twashuka grounds in Kanyama which was planned for Sunday.

UPND Acting General Secretary Walusiku Lyambela revealed that he had written to Lusaka Police Chief Solomon Jere informing the police of his party’s intentions to hold a rally on Sunday in Kanyama.

He said Dr. Jere said he could not grant the UPND a go ahead because the venue (Twashuka grounds) they had picked was subject of ongoing litigation.

“I was surprised that Dr. Jere called me yesterday and asked to see me at his office, when I got there he started asking If we could hold on to our rallies until 2016,” Walusika said.

“We sensed when he first called that he was going to turn down our request, so we went there prepared with a fresh application for a rally in Chawama and we handed in the letter.”

He said the party is determined to go ahead and hold rallies across the country starting with Chawama this Sunday.

    • this is not time for campaigns! why do you want to disturb the peace we are enjoying in our country you bitter UPND?!!! wait for 2016 God willing when your president might win people’s hearts

    • KEKEKEKEKEKEKEKE! ULUSE you really want to rule zambia ba UPND hold your fire! and i doubt if Hakainde will ever rule this country people are eyeing Chipimo or they would rather vote for any candidate PF will field after MCS two terms elapses

  1. A Jere you are a disappointment. I never thought a man of your caliber, a church elder can stoop so low to be used by politicians.

    • Ease off on him. He has kids to feed. These positions need to cease being political appointments then we will have an impartial police force.

  2. This is a claer indicationthat the Government under PF fears the UPND because todate always persecuting to set scores and not yet started to live to its camapaign promises. ONCE MORE HAS FAILED TO DELIVER.

    • iwee even if am not pf supporter its too early for your campaigns leave the people to rest from politiking, where were you last year? and for your own information Chipimo is next president after MCS’ s two terms elapses

  3. Why stop them indeed…come on Zambia we need to develop our democracy—PF do your thing and allow everyone the same opportunities…

  4. #12 only the truth your dog can think better than that….It seems the vocabulary of PF from top to grass root level is only composed of bitterness, seditious, hateful plus 5 other words

  5. Did PF have to wait until 2011 for them to hold rallies. What kind of governance is PF providing. They cannot tell they cannot work while others are holding rallies. What are they afraid of. I feel pain for having been duped into voting for these guy who want to turn Zambia into Zimbabwe

  6. Yaba!! AGAIN bamikanina!! Butti zoana!! Ba PF just let them hold their ka rally, they probably have nothing to even say. They are not a threat to anyone. Just let them go ahead!!

  7. King cobra spite and bite them so that even those who are remain in pf may see how zambia is sinking, and let them know how bitter you are never give them chance.

  8. The way things, the PF do not want to hear anyone opposing what they are doing. This is not normal because in life, not everyone can agree with you. Besides, disenting views can be very helpful because they make you notice the gaps. The behaviour of the PF is strange because all along they have thought they know it all. Now that they have been given a chance to govern, we have seen what they are made of and are capable of doing. Their incompetencies have been exposed big time. They appear clueless on everything and people are worried as to where this country is headed. And for Solomon Jere, all I can say is please check yourself. If you are not careful, you will be made unswerable for all these oppressive stunts you are currently pushing not long from now. People are watching you. Careful!

  9. Where are Captain Solo’s disciples when you need them. Conditions are very conducive! Hope this time the Revolution will really be televised!

  10. You PF, Please allow these nothing to be proud of party (UPND) to hold as many rallies as possible . HH and UPND are nonentities in the Zambian political arena. Dont help them raise their wings thinking they are something and yet they are absolutely nothing. Allow them to hold 4 rallies a week, as usual only children will be attending their rallies. But also warn them to behave before, during and after rallies.

    • you are the only PF follower that thinks  nonentities because everyone else keeps shouting HH name. Just look at the blogs, even when HH does not make a statement, people still a way of mentioning him in the comment. the other thing to note is that your president is scared to hell of HH otherwise he would not have instructed his PF cadres in the police to stop the holding of rallies. What I find sad is that pipo like u think it is normal for police to tell the opposition to hold rallies in 2016. So what happens in Mufumbwe, only PF should campaign

  11. Those Rupiah wanted to sort out, he simply took them to court and unleashed his judges and “magistrates on them. We were victims of that order. We know what went on. We know very well how certain judges or magistrates behaved to satisfy Rupiah’s wishes. And we can see the difference today. UPND, an opposition political party, can go to court and get a decision in their favour on a matter that the Executive seems to have a strong interest in. Under the rule of their ally Rupiah, this was not possible. The courts would always find a way to give Rupiah a decision he desired and justify it in all sorts of ways”. this is wrong by m’membe rupiah never denied anybody the freedom of assembly and he continued to insult an innocent RB.

  12. well done police, these are not productive but hatefull and bitterness rallies. Ha ha just wants to prove a point; its kulibonesha taa!

  13. THIS IS NOT TIME FOR CAMPAIGNS BA UPND!! WHY DO YOU WANT TO TROUBLE PEOPLE WHO ARE BUSY TRYING TO WORK HARD AND MAKE ENDS MEET? ALAAA! ALL YOU WANT IS TO COME IN GOVT, STEAL FROM THEM AND MAKE YOUR SELVES RICHER WHILST THEY REMAIN POORER, NATUMISHIBA NOMBA FI POLITICIAN!!! I WILL BE THE FIRST ONE TO STONE YOU WHEN YOU COME TO KANYAMA AND DISTURB OUR PEACE BUSINESSES FYOOO!!!!!

    • You are a moron. You clearly don’t understand what freedom of assembly and association means. Civics yalichikwakwa but walifeluka mambala. Go back to the stone age with your Rhodesian Constable! Shame on you! I am not a supporter of UPND but I will protect their right to assemble.

  14. @Chalo Bantu, you have nothing sensible to say in a screaming manner. Maybe you will understand this, SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!!! Ignorant embecile, you have no regard for the tenets of democracy you illiterate fool!!!

  15. Please HH, People now are busy appreciating government especially in the recent developments of RTSA story and RSZ story. People out there are so excited and they are expecting more from the government as at now. And you are busy trying to disturb people’s focus on the progressive PF government! Even if you have so much monies to spend, please, just hold your fire and start campaigning in 2015 at least. Not now. Dust of political campaigns is just settling on people’s minds. If you go ahead, people will just pretend to be listening to you and giving you support, but their mind is somewhere else! And for your own information, Elias Chipimo is next after MCS. Believe me! So, take heart and strategize properly for 2015 or 2016 ralies, not now! It’s too early….

  16. Ba LT,under the Public Order Act,there is no such thing like a permit. What organisers of a public meeting are required to do is simply NOTIFY the katopolas atleast 7 days before the event. If the police say they are unable to provide security,it is entirely up to the organisers to go ahead or not.So UPND,go hire private security and go ahead with your rallies, forget about these grade 7 katopolass! Labish!

  17. My understanding was that one only needs to inform the police of an intended or planned meeting and it was not for police to give or deny a go ahead but provide security. Someone correct me

  18. By instructing the police to deny rally permits to UPND, the ruling government is already campaigning for the opposition, by bringing them to the fore and making them more popular. The PF are only digging their own grave. Everyone can tell that they are scared to have the opposition hold rallies, and that for a good reason.

  19. UPND & HH will be stoned in Kanyama and all arseholes name calling the Kapokolas will again be asking, where were the police. Jere just allow these lumpens to be sjamboked by their fellow PF hooligans in Kanyama. They have insisted to have a rally in a compound where a booth was burnt during last years elections at their own risk!
Government protects even id!ots and pompous arses like HH. Allow him so that he and his followers reap their own wish!

  20. Solomon somba pliz allow UPND to tell its people all the allegation levelled against them.We know very well that you are being instructed by Mr.satan.Soon you will regreat your actions.

PF govt, you are so pompus.you came because people voted for u and if repeat the same mistake MMD did, believe you me you will go like RB one term only.We are watching you

  21. Truth is if the govt is working and delivering there is nothing to be afraid of. Give them permits, people will attend to see, to be seen and to hear and they judge for themselves. Denying them permits will make the opposition popular. Just ignore the oppostion rantings and campaigns and deliver as per your promises, thats all what we want- development. In a democracy divergent views should be expressed and people will make their own decisions.

  22. I agree, there is a possibility of PF youths to crush with UPND. remember PF youths are annoyed about HH calling HEMCS that CNP. I agree with Dr Jere. Please until you can give proper security to Mr HH and Douglas Siakalima and the Advisor Mr William Banda, dont entertain the larry or Rally whatever. Most bloggers will still be on the blog watching pics of butchered lives. Solomon it is your duty to protect citizens.
