The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) says it is not in parliament to enjoy the privileges that come with being recognized as the official opposition political party in the house.
UPND vice president Richard Kapita says the party is in parliament to provide the necessary checks and balances to the Patriotic Front so that citizens can be provided with better services.
Mr. Kapita was commenting on MMD’s loss of official opposition status in parliament.
Speaking to QFM News, Mr. Kapita says the requirement to be recognized as an official opposition is merely ceremonial.
He says the UPND is represented in the house so that things in the country go well and not to enjoy privileges that come along.
Mr. Kapita it is time the people of Zambia stood up to fight for what is right and not ignore and pretend that things are going well in the country.
So things are not going well in the country? What a useless opposition we have these days.
You’ve a very informed perspective unfortunately coloured by the unfortunate location where your head is stuck in. Please my dear pull that head of yours out of your lower rear!
So things in your view are going well?
True Zambians are pretenders…. It’s high time they started seeing things in perspective and not to enrich politicians… No wonder most people have remained uneducated and that has made politicians happy…
Hon Kapita well spoken, we know that under the pathetic fools Zambia is in the reverse gear & please continue being our voices otherwise we have the CNPs for leadership. We will support as Zambian in everyway posible to insure that opposition polical parties are safe from these dictators. Viva opposition.
Zambia is in need of fresh blood. These current crop of politicians are mere time wasters. How i wish the entire parliament can just collapse and kill these guys with the president present and spare us from this drama from stomach politicians.
@ Roue’, what do you expect of a nation with an uneducated president, who has no regard for education & the educated?
Perhaps his started thinking properly by appointing Professor Chirwa as ZRL CEO #just a thought
HIS WIFE IS EDUCATED. I DONT KNOW HOW EDUCATED YOUR WIFE IS. BUT THAT SHOWS THAT THE MAN VALUES EDUCATION.
With your level of english, you cannot possibly be as learned as the President who has a bachelor’s degree in political science.
So far so bad, to me things are just the way they were in MMD hence i have to worker strategically to live a better life…If you are PF, i challenge you to highlight with facts and figures on any changes in the country thus far….
TIP: If you want a better life work for it don’t wait for PF or government to do it for you
:)>-
If you aim at nothing, you will surely hit it. PF is succeeding.
and what have you contributed to the development of this country as a party? We are waiting for u to negatively comment on Chirwas appointment. what are u waiting for?
YOU DON’T HAVE IT AND YOU CAN NEVER HAVE IT.
BA KAPITA, UNFORTUNATELY YOU ARE NOT THE PARTY THAT CAN PROVIDE CHECKS AND BALANCES. I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO FIRST PROVIDE CHECKS AND BALANCES IN YOUR PARTY B4 YOU LOOK AT THE PF GVT. YOU ARE SERIOUSLY IN DENIAL OF YOURSELVES. THE WHOLE PARTY IS CONTROLLED BY HH’s ‘PERIODICAL’ PAINS. HOW CAN THAT BE? ZAMBIA DOES NOT NEED BITTER PEOPLE IN OPPOSITION BECAUSE THEY CAN’T BE OBJECTIVE BUT SUBJECTIVE.
You’re a great thinker just like GBM.
TUBELENGEKO AGAIN NKANI YACHENDI YA CHIRWA.
Ma heart is at pain to see that we dont have opposition in this country.Opposition is vital. All we ve r useless leaders like HH and Nevers.
Thanks VEEP!!! we have seen nothing under these Pathetic Fools!!!! this country is a sinking titanic. We are behind you UPND! come 2016!!!!!
Well, the requirement to be recognised as an official opposition in parliament is to have 53 seats. The MMd had that but lost a few through petitions and therefore no longer qualifies. The UPND has 30 seats in parliamane and it shtrefore no where near the official opposition status! So it is not a question of whether the UPND wants it or doesnt want it, they simply do not qualifiy and this, therefore is a non-issue!! As to whether the country has been in reverse gear since PF took over, I am not sure about that, most indications are showing a positive trend and therefore I would very cautious to disseminate such pessimism, unless it is a policy of a particular political party to remain pessimistic and antagonistic!!
Kapita well explained, dont listen to pf chatterboxes unlike pf controlled by old log, UPND is not controlled by one man UPND MPs are mature n experienced debators offering the much needed checks n balances in the august house.
UPND is 20 + more seats to think of being official. These UPND guys are pretenders over rating themselves too much. Face it you are not as strong as you used to be under Mazoka the man.
I have mixed feelings about these people who are appear as if they are standing for the ordinary masses. Sort out yourselves first, then may be we can think of supporting you or your leadership. Let me leave the rest of uncomfortable news about you the leaders for another moment, and Iike I said, sort out everything about yourselves and individually as leaders before we offer support.
What official opposition??? with 30 MPs??? You can not form a quorum in parliament, it is only confered on a Party that is capable of forming a qorum in parliament and the magic number is 53 MPs, get some more MPs from Muchinga is some by-election, bane!!!
What are the legal implications of UPND and MMD merging as an opposition party so that they have more than the 53 seats required to be recognized as an official opposition party. At least one of their MP’s would enjoy the perks that go with being the official opposition leader.
