The the ruling party, the Patriotic Front (PF), has said that it was proud of President Michael Sata’s capacity to mobilise and assign the best human resource to their best abilities in his bid to develop the country.
PF Media and Publicity Director Chanda Mfula expressed pleasure that Zambians from all walks of life have applauded the appointment of Professor Clive Chirwa as Chief Executive Officer of the Zambia Railways.
In a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday, Mr. Mfula said President Sata has once again demonstrated outstanding leadership skills of identifying and utilising the best people in each sector to ensure all round national development.
He added that from the time he assumed leadership of the country, President Sata has shown true statesmanship by looking beyond partisan lines to seek the participation of the best brains in rebuilding the country.
Mr. Mfula said the PF is happy that the Zambian people have come to prove for themselves that President Sata has genuine desire to unite the country and deliver inclusive and participatory development to all the parts of Zambia while working with all citizens regardless of their background.
ZANIS
Why the noise then? what is strange with appointing this old man who earns handsomely in the UK?
Ba LT is PG or PF??
PG is airline code for Bangkok airways! ba LT,imwe sure!!! ati PG, whovexactly is your editor? you can censor our comments but cant do spell-check? lmfao at LT!
Wrong; its Parental Guidance. People like you need it
Seleni Tubombeko!
mube itako mubombe na cnp
We in the diasora salute the President for appointing Professor Chirwa. He should tap educated Zambians abroad to develop the nation. Home is home.
HELL NO….diaspora pipo work in diaspora
Why did you go away if you thought there are jobs in Zambia?
go go teacher turned journalist
We in the diaspora
I do not understand why people are making too much noise whenever the president does something. A lot of praise, it is not the first time an appointment has been done but it looks so strange as if Mr. Sata is the first president to do that. Maybe they are given something after praising the president, like defecting opposition MPs who want jobs and money from PF.
Red eyes says it all drunk with power.
Chirwa is being groomed to take over from Sata. GBM and ka Winter, you’re in for a rude shock
An academician with no track record or running or turning around a loss making business appointed to run ZRL. Only in Zambia drama.com
Why do we have such negative minded people, that is why some of you run away from Zambia because you can not think to develop Zambia. Those countries you have gone to, people sacrificed and worked hard to be where they are and you think it’s easy!! shame on you!!!
Can we have Prof. Chirwa’s track record and retinue of skills (not just knowledge!) before we can say he’s the right man? Some people think just because he has degrees in aeronautical engineering, then he’s the right man but it takes a combination of know-how and the right leadership and management skills to be a successful CEO and so far, there is no publicly-available evidence that he has both. I remember there was a Dr. Lemba Nyirenda appointed as ZESCO MD – PHD in electrical engineering – who almost ran ZESCO into the ground. We shall wait and see!
Sata frustrated Pro Luo over street vendors and dumped her at the smallest useless Ministry to deal with chiefs despite her Education so i will let those with Brains to predict what will happen with Pro Chirwa whose just a CEO.
It’s a ticking time bomb
The guy thinks Zambia will have electric trains or that coaches can be fabricated in Choma, he’s so out of touch with reality, what a joker this guy is
I was also very surprised uponhearing this! The guys lives indreamland :d
# 1
Sela tubombeko!
Mistake number one .He did consult. coaches will be fabricated in muchinga.
Now wats up with the picture of Fidel Castro in the background. Instead of our Sata in background picture you put fidel Castro can you ba LT or Chanda Mfula explain why?
SATA IS A TYPICAL FAILURER ,,,HE HAS FAILED TO GIVE THE YOUTHS JOBS HE PROMISED THEM.
SATA LIED TO THE POOR LOZIS TO HONOUR THE BAROTSELAND AGREEMENT….
Our politicians have failed to provide us with social services..I am now for the young leader,HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH for the state house.
They should also poach me to turn the country`s health system around
For sure ni HAKAINDE HICHILEMA for 2016 republican president.
its true,,its true,,its true pf are liers now they are busy poaching opposition mps to create unnecessary by- elections
‘Gloat’ is the new word in LT’s vocabulary it appears. Anyhow, I am still of the view that we should stop playing politics as soon as the election winner has been announced. We go too deep into the productive parts of an elected party’s term still playing around with people’s lives by gargling words in our mouths that we lose the bus altogether and start ridiculous plans near to election time. I am hoping that this time around we will not make this ZRL appointment another one of the mirages to cover up our political games…
its true,,its true,,its true pf are liers now they are busy poaching opposition mps to create unnecessary by- elections..
For sure ni HAKAINDE HICHILEMA for 2016 republican president. for state house
I can’t wait for the Government to complete his repatriation so that he can form his own party!!!! Who here honestly believes that the entire Chirwa is content being an MD?
Our politicians have failed to provide us with social services..I am now for the young leader,HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH for the state house.in 2016
CHIRWA HAS BEEN POLITICALLY FINISHED…NO PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRATION..CHIRWA IS COMPLETELY SHUTTERED..THEN HE WILL BE FIRED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.

Let us wait and see what Chirwa can do. Does he have necessaryb experience in running a logistic company. Do not confuse academic qualifications and theorems with experience. He is dreaming big….well that is what academicians normally do…dream and dream. Before he embarks on electrification of rail network, let him first start thinkinf of rehabilitation or replacement of the current dilapidated rail lines. He dreams of electrifying the network , extending the rail lines to Mpulungu and Mongu, setting up an assembly plant for coaches in Mongu, all in three years!! That is a big dream ok. Ifintu ni panono.
@13&14 Rocky, Prof Chirwa is one of the few individuals in his profession who achieve whatever they dream of, despite serious hurdles. That time bomb you’re dreaming of will still be ticking long after he’s made his mark and gone.
# 15, now the slogan has changed from pabwato to seleni tubumbeko. do you guys get these slogans from a Grade 7 drop out or from a Kaponya oh i forget your president Sata is both.. double Agony.
Pathetic Fools
The young man in the picture needs to go for an HIV test – urgently.
Zambia Railways has handshakes with the operators of National Railways in Zimbabwe, Congo DRC, TAZARA and Muchinji Railways in Malawi. His articulate CV and ambitions can only work if these other Railway networks he has to work with will have the same dreams. As it stands movement of bulk cargo from the Mines will be constrained by these incomplete handshakes …unless perhaps if Zambia Railways will have wings to fly over these other sister railways bottlenecks. Mr. Chirwa’s flamboyant CV will be reduced to nothing…watch this space…
PF Goats over Sata’s …
Why is this appointment everyday’s news ?? Seems thats the only brilliant thing sata has done
Our politicians have failed to provide us with social services..I am now for the young leader,HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH for the state house.in 2016,..
SATA LIED TO THE POOR LOZIS TO HONOUR THE BAROTSELAND AGREEMENT..CHIRWA BE CAREFUL WITH THE OLD MAN.
Chirwa will resign once he sees what dull people his dealing with. Chirwa can also never be a president his only disqualification is too much education and we know how allergic most parts of the country and a string of politicians are to been led by an educated person as they fear they will be noticed for their lack of education and chucked out to bring his fellow educated friends.
Well said and good, we will support anything which the president does to improve the economy of the country. In the long run everyone stands to benefit from such approaches as is the case in other parts of the world were such initiatives were successfully implemented. We must learn to appreciate what the man who was mandated to develop that country does, not pulling him down or hauling insults at him or subjecting him to name calling instances because none of those habits will bring about developmental changes.
My thoughts on my brother HH are somewhat mixed and it is not that I like Sata more than HH but I take Sata more serious than before in the light of his strides in luring foreign investors to Zambia so as to 1. invest and also transfer the much needed technology to Zambians and train many Zambians in much sort-after skills which can be better utilized within Zambia. 2. Sata wants to have a situation where local companies are allowed to compete well or enjoy an advantageous postion as opposed to TRCs especially in a small economy like Zambia’s economy so as to grow the economy at a much faster rate. This not to argue that the TRCs should be kept out of full participation but to develop policies which promote local ownership and or joint ownership in terms of shares.
Geez! This guy’s eyes are red!!!
please people understand chirwa when he says he will put up the eletric train dont think that are those new models train no but is almost the same with the one we are using despite that the will not use diesel but power meaning that beside the railway will be poles for power and it will be connected on top of the rain.people who have seen this system they know what is talking about
lama, what exactly are you talking about. Your sentences have no punctuation marks which makes it difficult to understand what you are saying. The English of some bloggers leaves much to be desired.
Tujilijili at work for the eyes show it. Praise songs before work are worst of time.
Red Linso in the picture…..
Sela tubombeko iwe if you dont want Chirwa go hung your self he has proved himself to the entire world that he is a great scintist not an accademician you retards keep on with your negativity mwasanga baleteya.
@45, Spinelli, you’ve just made me laugh my lungs out!!!!!! Geez!!!! The guy’s eyes are surely brake lights for a Pigeot 504
iwe chi kanyankula # 18,19 and 20 why are using my name swine .am not for stupid hh, viva my president mr sata and pf.
I seem to have seen that person in that man’s background. Is that the USA’s ex president?
Cant remember him properly.
Thanks
He is your next door neighbor.
Fidel Castrol he was Cuban former president a communist advocacy !!!. Those are real men Mushota, they have made history.that is unmatched.
Thanks
Mushota is right. that is George Bush Sr
He is FIDEL CASTRO. if you http://www.google and type Fidel, his image will come.
Gloat is a wrong word to use, in the context of the report itself
I maybe be wrong but I know I am not, You use gloat with dwelling on malevolent smugness. In other words happy with a ‘bad intent’. A fighter would for instance gloat on knocking a fellow fighter, or a boss would gloat on firing someone at work. It is not to be used with someone in this case who is merely backing or endorsing an appointment and reading between the lines is probably seeking employment himself.
Get it right LT next time. Sorry I have used it many a times, and this is the worst way I have seen it used
Thanks
Someone somewhere has made a valid observation that needs immediate attention.
When Prof Clive Chirwa was appointed CEO of ZR he was a British citizen. Presumably, the Zambian government was ready to issue him a work permit or a permanent resident permit.
However, since giving up his British citizenship, and according to Zambian Law, hasn’t Prof Chirwa now become stateless or is government playing double standards games with the Law?
Isn’t it high time Zambia, like other progressive countries made dual citizenship legal?
You don’t sound very clever, sorry
Thanks
Not intended to sound clever, sorry.
@kanyankula,As at now ,in how many provinces yo party is popular? Don’t 4get that PF has penetrated N western.
@Mushota#54
Comrade Mushota, in what context are you looking at the usage of the word gloat? Are looking at it in terms of it as a noun or it as in a verb form? Careful my dear. You might be the one who is wrong in this particular argument. I advise you to look at the word in terms its expanded interpretation in lieu of confining yourself to a narrow approach
chi Spinelli u are very childish. talk about the story. can we please debate issues. red eyes have nothing to do with prof Chirwa appointment u monkey
I’m also surprised that this fool starts debating Chanda’s red linso (lol) instead of the issues. Most bloggers are *****s
@Mushota#54
Gloat as a noun means to express self-satisfaction or to express pleasure or to feel great often expressed maliciously. It follows that this approach ties up with your argument but it does not rule out other usages which are constructed in line with ‘gloat’ being applied as a ‘verb’
Gloat as a verb would then in case support Lusaka Times’s application of this word in the manner in which they used it.Gloat as a verb means dwell on with sataisfaction not malicious satisfaction. Please notice the following;
boast, brag, shoot a line or perceive with attention or congratulate. With wealth of information, LT is correct
I am not comrade BOOM
and I am not wrong. The meaning is correct as per LT’ usage but the context is wrong.
It is similar to defining someone who watches fighting games and participates in them like boxing and calling him a sadistic fighter
Although correct ,the context is wrong
I am more educated and smarter than you BOOM, sometimes I see things which you will get to see later on a few years, because of that I don’t blame your shortsightedness. It would be insane for me to undermine or degrade someone who is mentally challenged, for it is not out of choice.
Hope you are doing well though
Thanks
BOOM & WHATEVER #59
Sorry for minor omissions such as ‘this’ in the last sentence shortly before ‘wealth’ and in the second paragraph in particular in the first sentence shortly before the word ‘case’ I omitted ‘this’ again. I did not spell the word ‘satisfaction’ correctly I think anyone who read my post has picked up the faulty spelling of this word mentioned above. Sorry for that, it is because I type these words very fast
Good afternoon
It is alright to read these sentiments from all angles and constituencies, but it would be more interesting to hear what the Prof. himself has to say about his appointment.
I personally he is prepared to give back to Zambia what he has earned and learned in terms of know-how and professionality. I am convinced that a lot of Zambians living abroad, if given a chance can contribute extensively towards facilitating the local developmental agenda from their vantage point in Diaspora.
read “I personally hope…”
@Mushota#60
Good, good.
I am doing just fine my dear, except that I miss you a lot as if we met each other a few moments ago in a library. Hopefully you will still be fine when you ready this post. I am not shortsighted per se, as in looking at matters in narrow versions but I treat everything in expanded versions. I addressed you as a comrade because I treat you as a special ‘associate’ not that I want to associate you with communists.
@Mushota#60
My dear I do not think we should argue about our educational backgrounds, especially on this forum because it will consume our time dwelling on matters which otherwise, would have been discussed in a more professional approach. This issue in question is fundamentally contencious and provoking, and this is not to hint that I concur with you especially when you argue that your educational level is above my level. I think you understand my line of argument, and it is not offensive to anyone including you as a lady. Please enjoy your day, lady Mushota.
Rocky, it is the right thinking Human Beings who changed reality. We should not be skeptics aboutb developing our own country. Zambia has not developped because of thinking inside the box!
But these UPND cadres are funny. Now Chirwa is bad and uneducated just because he is willing to work with PF? What a bunch of cadres without strategy , you thought Chirwa would always dance to your tune, nope …. you have fished a dry one. We always tell you to humble yourselves if you were to rule Zambia but coz of your insipid pomposity you chose wallowing in your folly.
Have you seen that now people have lost any respect they had for you as reflected by your loss of all the 14 ward elections. Please humble yourselves and respects other people. Respect prof Chirwa if you were also to be respected. This is a free advice to you guys, otherwise you , UPND and HH will continue sinking if you dont change.
Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
I join Zambians to give salute for such a good move to bring the right pipo for the right job .But WHY not do the same to TAZARA ? Things are worsening there, pipo have not been paid for three months salaries now, trains are not moving because fuel shortage .
The man is presidental material and this could be a test for him, lets wish him all the best i for one wouldnt mind having him for president later after the current president has shown him the party’s vision.
