Katongo: Tanzania Defeat is a Wakeup Call

Share

Chris Katongo says Zambia’s loss to Tanzania on Saturday is a wakeup call for the African champions.

Tanzania beat Zambia 1-0 in a friendly match at the National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam.

“The loss was a wakeup call,” Katongo told The Zambia Daily Mail.

“We are not happy that we lost . This is football we need to work hard.”

A 45th minute goal from Mrisho Ngasa settled the encounter that saw Tanzania dominate the first half before Zambia turned up a better show after the break.

“The coach wanted to see one or two or three young players,” Katongo said.

“He assessed them and knows what they can do for the team.”

  1. Young players did better in the second half and Zambia was unlucky not to have scored. This means that young players are better placed to do good for mother Zambia. Same thing happened wen we beat Bafana Bafana, the game tempo rose when younger players (not Mbesuma but) were introduced in the game. Katongo C, Chamanga, Chansa and Chintu are old now, lets face the facts here. Lets play Nathan, Mukuka and maybe Felix in midfield. Jacob and Mayuka upfront then Chisamba and Kalaba/Sakuwaha on the flanks. Muzo and Mbola can start at the back with Chintu/HH and Stopilla at central defence. Let katongo C, Chamanga, Chansa, Nkausu, and the rest be bench warmers. Thay have done a lot for Zambia and its tym we introduce others.

  2. Buchiluse luse nabwingila bane and I see the players going to the AFCON 2013 with the same mentality of losing and losing and losing untill we be termed under dogs again. These guys have grown big headed everytime they are playing friendlies at kabili ni practice match. Ala efyo bakulilila ifyo fine. This year alone we have lost to SUDAN 2-0, S/KOREA 2-1, MALAWI 1-0, UGANDA 1-0, S/ARABIA 2-1and TANZANIA 1-0.

We have only managed to beat GHANA 1-0, UGANDA 1-0, and S/AFRICA 1-0. We have also may be recorded a draw agains ANGOLA 0-0.

This is not a good way to be champions, we need to pull up our socks or else we will be embarassed like Chelsea in UEFA…

    • I liked your argument, until ending where you refer to Chelsea. Are you comparing apples with apples here? How many times has Chelsea been hounded out of the Champions League as defending Champions? You must be a Man U supporter who has nothing positive to write about Chelsea but have this secret love of Chelsea which you fail to notice.

    • Bashi Chanda, Iam a die hard Chelsea supporter and thats why I refer Zambia to this team. I felt so bad to have walked away from the Champions league like that without going all the way fighting for it. I dont want to experience another heart break thats why I want Zambia to defend the title with dignity, even if we were to lose at least somewhere in the semi final or final or even defending it chabe……………Iam Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Yes , these guys the way they played was so embarrassing.  They could not attack but just walking towards the 18. If this is the way they will play in South Africa they will be out in the first round. They have become big headed that they cant run now, they cant fight for the ball but look at the opponents as they score…..sad thing really.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  4. Its not my waking call but for you who kick the ball in the ntional team, also pipo like Noah Chivuta they are always called t national duty but we dont see him playing , so do such players have juju? they dont even come anywhere near to be featured but always making it to the national team.

  5. Plz it’s time to let the young blood make first team and our so called vets come in as super subs forget the experience crap these same new comers will gain experience the more play time there given Lord!!!!

  6. The national team should play every match like they are in some competition. They should always play their hearts out. That’s when they will win every match. And improve their skills. Goodness, we only know 1-0’s… YAWN!!!

  7. namba 4 ulichipuba leave chelsea alone……u play to win and so chelsea did just that in the UEFA. For your own info….what happened to Manutd last season….tell me…….tell us bwana..they got beat in the CL AND THEN EUROPA……You have clue about football……

  9. Inzaghi, we chipuba cha mupamba niwebo because you want to take my reference to Chelsea so personal. I refering Zambia as Champions to Chelsea has nothing to do with whether you support Chelsea or not.

All I meant was for someone sensible to analyse and understand that even Champions can fall if they take things for granted. Chelsea were champions, but couldn’t proceed to the last 16 and tha same can happen to Zambia if they don’t change the losing attitude they have developed. You are really a fool I can see and its even clear that you don’t even know how to read football. We chipuba we, all you know is to insult sensible people pano………Wikabwekeshapo we shilu we……
