Embattled Foreign Affairs Minister Given Lubinda has been relegated to the backbench in Parliament an indication that he has been removed from his ministerial position.

Ordinarily, Members of Parliament not holding Ministerial positions are supposed to seat on the backbenches.

And Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini told the house that he had been informed of the changes made resulting in Mr Lubinda being relegated to the backbench while his deputy Effron Lungu has moved to the front bench.

Dr Mr Matibini who could not elaborate further on the changes said further details would be given.

The Speaker was ruling on a point of order raised by Zambezi west Members of Parliament Charles Kakoma who wanted to know whether it was in order for Mr Lubinda to seat on the backbench.

Dr Matibini in his ruling said the Kabwata MP was in order to sit on the backbench.

Mr Lubinda has been facing disciplinary action from his party on allegations of treachery and disloyalty.

There have been growing calls from PF members demanding his expulsion from the party.

    • PF fires Lubinda for talking and discussing politics with the opposition and you justify the sacking claiming loyalty is important. MMD and now UPND fire their MP’s for prostituting with the PF and you call it “working together” to develop the nation. What kind of hypocrisy is this? If Lubinda is no longer a minister we the people have to be informed..you dont just quietly remove him and leave us to guesswork. This is not an aristocracy.   35. If there was a time for a statement or press conference it is now as the tax payer still does not know if GRZ are still paying Lubinda’s salary whilst he is on “special leave” as he awaits the PF secretariat to pass its decision.
    At the moment there is no accountability or transparency from these people – Lubinda may be a PF MP but he is also a full cabinet minister of an important ministry hence we the people need to be aware of what is going behind the scenes.

  36. Those who think loyalty is important in Lubindas case are wrong. It’s these politics of loyalty that fail us greatly. Parliament requires divergent views hence MPs should not always act to please their masters. Besides, Lubinda has yet to tell his side of story and he has made it clear that he will not talk about it until the powers that be decide on his fate. He has exhibited maturity and loyalty to his party, as a parliamentarian it’s best to work with other MPs as long as it is in the interest of our country not a party. PF have become too big headed just like the MMD did, if HH was to become president believe me you he’ll be the same? As the electorate we need to press these guys to produce hard facts and not this pettiness.

  42. This is a worrying phenomena and it raises some questions. How did they know Given was leaking information? What method did they use to ‘catch’ him? Isn’t it that the Chinese eaves dropping equipment is at work already? Could it be that the “Party and its Government” cannot tell the nation the reasons for his relegation, for doing so would be admitting the Chinese/ OP eaves dropping operation, which infringe on the privacy of citizens. If all I ve said is mere speculation, can Sakeni explain the exact reasons why Given is been relegated. He is a cabinet minister and therefore a public servant, the public demands to know!

  43. enough said about Lubinda being noble and mature and am not trying to say that he isn’t, but have you all tried to consider otherwise? what if the allegation are true and that is why lubinda has chosen to keep quiet? remember that the charges include selling or passing of confiential intel to the media, eg ZWD, if these things were true then i would consider Kubinda to be wrong and not fitting the office he occupied coz that office involves a lot of confidential infor…..i strongly feel that Lubinda did something wrong, but my feeling cannot be the ultimate area upon which i should premise my thoughts. i just hope that one day soon or later i and everyone interested will find out the truth about this matter.

    • A well placed akalimbusha said he was against the creation of ZK1.5B slush fund for the first lady. He suggested to the opposition to bring up the issue in parley and fight it with all they had. But as you can see, there are some people in the opposition that are providing intelligence to PF. They squealed on him.

  45. The reality is that State House has been relocated along Bwingimfumu Road, and the de facto Republican President is His Excellence Dr. Fred Mmembe. Mmembe’s Vice President is the recently nominated MP called Michael Sata. Sata has been relegated to the role of executing his boss’s directives. Given Lubinda is merely a victim of a new virulent invasive breed of a clique comprised of Kabimba, Masebo, & Mutembo Nchito. the financier of the Project is Dr. Mahtani. It is a pity that the Bemba group has been beaten at their own game. GBM and Kambwili are leaking their wounds.

  47. Hon Given Lubinda has accepted his punishment with due respect. Some arogant MP would be courting HH for solidarity. Its not the end of the road for Hon Lubinda as I am convinced this is temporary and intended to show as an example to members. He will bounce back full blast I can guarantee everyone.
