United Party for National Development (UPND) Deputy Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has said his party is happy to have a few united and disciplined members than a bunch of indiscipline and treacherous members.
Mr. Mweetwa told ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka yesterday that the UPND will not accept to work with the PF government using the backdoor approach.
He said if government is serious about working with the opposition it should come out in the open and declare interest instead of using backdoor means of appointing UPND members as deputy ministers.
Mr. Mweetwa said his party does not want to abandon its role of providing checks and balances to government and will defend its position as the opposition in all matters of governance..
He further encouraged UPND members intending to work with or join the ruling Patriotic Front government to openly declare interest and resign from the party.
Mr. Mweetwa said members of the opposition should always remember that they are there to provide checks and balances to the government.
He said it will not be right for the nation to have people singing the same song instead of pushing government to work where needed.
Commenting on the two Deputy Ministers that were recently appointed by President Sata as Deputy Ministers in the Ministry of Commerce and Information respectively Mr. Mweetwa expressed ignorance on any action taken by the party, referring all queries to the disciplinary committee.
Recently Sinjembela Member of Parliament Njeulu Poniso and Kalabo Member of Parliament Chinga Miyutu were allegedly suspended from the opposition UPND for accepting to serve in the PF government.

Its very hard to reason with the UPND because they are so self opinionated that they think Zambians are fools and they are the smartest and most educated. They e.g. belittle president Sata calling him derogatory names and yet most of them or even combined cannot match his political prowess. I just 2 weeks Sata has wired them in Mpongwe and Livingstone by elections and has stripped their new master RB of his immunity in a spectacular fashion whilst they continue to trivialise their losses. No strategy at all. T hats Sata the action man. He is just starting. Come 2016 kaya UPND and MMD.

I love your analysis my man and those are the facts on the ground! Pf is growing stronger by the day and the so called opposition parties are shrinking each day that comes! You could even wonder where they are getting the courage to say HH 2016 because the reality is completely opposite! At the rate things are going, upnd will be very luck if they will remain with more than 5 MPs by the end of 2014!
Sata the political heavy weight is just capitalising on the weakneses of the opposition as well as the lopeholes of our Republican Constitution and the morale in the PF camp is very high! In any battle, you need to demoralise your enemy and keep your morale high! So far, Sata is making excellent moves that are chocking the baby politicians! Its almost checkmate to baby politicians!

UPND numbers in parley are reducing with every general election and I wonder how they are going to win the next elections.
Its a pity some people can’t even learn from History. Late Mazoka was a national leader, simply because he was educated at Mungwi Secondary School in Kasama and spent half his working time in Ndola. He never founded a party based in Monze (it was National). Everytime you read on some blogs, its about Bembas, bembas bembas. No body wanted to be born a Bemba or anytribe for that matter, and even if we all start as a family, clan, tribe, region, we must all drop these and think of ourselves as Zambians. So as long as some of you think and act in a box, in a tribe or region, how are you going to convince people from other regions and tribes to join your party and vote for you. If you don’t appreciate that politics lie in great numbers then how are you going to beat a sitting Government…
One now understands why UPND went into and left the pact with PF, It was true they were hoping SATA would die and HH can take over PF. They were also hoping that SATA would be barred from contesting since he didn’t have a degree in his armpit, when they realised none of these were working in their favour they ditched the PACT.
Facts to consider: (1) no one knows when anyone would die. People with chronic HIV/AIDS remain while health people die from natural causes; (2) there is no guarantee that if general elections were to be held today, tomorrow or anytime soon, UPND would win; (3) as long as UPND doesn’t change its policy, they will keep losing their MPs and also their voters; (4) ask Sata why he doesn’t fire his MPs, and ask HH why he fires his MPs, find out who of them is on…
PF has a bunch of illiterate MPS and as such SATA has to outsource personnel to be able to run his government. If PF MPS were aware that they had the brains, why not complain? It is common sense torealise that most PF MPS are dropouts and have no proper skills apart from scraunging. Most of these guys are mare cadres and VUVUZELAS and nothing else. The elite PF guys who moved out who had joined MMD at the time, those were heavy weights and SATA would not be complaining about lack of manpower if those guys were still there, and in any case would not have allowed him to behave like the way he is behaving now among the illiterates.
