Former republican President Rupiah Banda has been slapped with another count in a matter he is charged with corrupt practices.

This is in a matter in which Banda is charged with concealing gratification of nine light trucks, all valued at over K470, 000.

When the matter was called up yesterday before Lusaka Principal Magistrate Obster Musukwa, the State applied to have the charge sheet before court replaced as they had another charge to add.

After Mr Musukwa allowed the application, Banda was in the second account charged with corrupt practices by public officer contrary to section 19 (1) section 40 of the ACC Act number 38 of 2010.

It is alleged in the new count that Banda on dates unknown but between January 1, 2011 and August 31, 2011 in Lusaka being a person holding and performing functions of the President of Zambia did corruptly receive 10 motor vehicles as gratification from Sogecao Zambia Limited and Sogepao Construction and engineering Investment Limited which companies are subsidies of ANUI Foreign Economic Construction Company of China that had dealings with the government of Zambia to do with various public works.

In the old count, it is alleged that Banda between January 1, 2011 and August 30, 2011 received nine trucks obtained as gratification from Sogecao Zambia limited, a subsidiary of Anui Foreign Economic Construction Company.

Mr Musukwa adjourned the case to September 16, 2013 when he would make a ruling on preliminary issues raised by the State on the new charge.

  1. The prosecution seems to be falling all over themselves by changing the wording of the first charge from gratification to receiving and moving the date from 31st August 2011 to 30th August 2011…Has Nchito ever won any case or is he like his buddy Kabimba who must have bought his qualifications from Kulima tower.

  2. This is what we call ‘UMU NGULU’ baliba sana umu ngulu, there is nothing else they can do apart from watching TOM and JERRY.

  4. Circus. Comedy that has lost its humour. When will we mature as a nation? We are petty over everything.

Is there a president in the history of presidents who it 100% clean? Not even 1!

We elect presidents into power, presidents are a reflection of our will, our country.

Civilized nation retire a president an honour him, even after death all we hear are good things.

Things don’t work like that in Zambia — we like to see people suffer, and kick them when they are down.

We hunted Kaunda and jailed him; we hounded Chiluba till he died, we are disgracing RB and we will crucify Sata.

That is just who we are, it is what we do.

    Wake up people.

    • Maikalange – I like your lines
“We hunted Kaunda and jailed him; we hounded Chiluba till he died, we are disgracing RB and we will crucify Sata”

  5. Cage him…he really stole alot while many Zambians out there that he was meant to serve were and are still in extreme poverty.Cage the chap soon. And I mean SOON…

    • If that was what you call ‘extreme poverty’,what do you call this which is happening under PF? I was about to say think before you blog, but then I figured you are a TITANIC supporter. Wont waste my words.

  6. Somebody has just upload on zwd how much was spent to fix cctv cameras in johanseburge distance of 50km at $USD 40m. Satas son buys similar equipment to cover 7 kilometers at USD$210m .

    • Can you learn to think? I was pointing out to you that poverty levels are much higher and rapidly growing in these last 11 months of Bwato without paddle than all the 240 months of MMD put together.

  7. I WOULD WANT CORRUPT PIPO TO BE PUNISHED SEVERELY NEVERTHELESS ,THE WAY THE PRECESS OF PROSECUTING RB IS GOING SHOWS NO SERIOUSNESS BY THE ONES MANDATED TO DO SO.

  8. This is a fast-track project for DDP Mutembo Nchito as the sun shines. Apparently, the ACC is hopelessly watching Sata’s son fine-tune his techniques of embezzling our Tax payers money in full broad day light..

Meanwhile, Nchito’s colleague, Fres Mmembe, is testing the realities of meddling into politics for financial gains.

  9. I see that our Zambian government has nothing to offer in this case. How do you change everyday the same case from one direction to another direction? Do not twist the case and if you have failed ba Nchito then you are Nchitoless. My appeal to the president is that Let him cancel this case because it looks like there is no truth and proof in it. The Late Dr Chiluba was slapped with more than 100 cases and among them which one did the Zambian government won and returned the funds into the coffers? Nothing not even what was called Zamtroop. If Nchito wants to show the Nation that our former republican president stole 9 or 10 vehicles, I feel this is un called for. Let the loving president drop this case against his predecessor on the ground of peace and love. The DPP has failed his duties…

  10. Ci Nchinto behave yourself. After seeing that your case in the oil deal is not going nowhere you start coming up with stupid cases.
