The Zambia Police Service has put in place stringent measures to ensure that law and order prevails during the Independence Day celebrations.
Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Charity Chanda says police have also deployed both uniformed and non-uniformed officers to police all areas.

Mrs. Chanda said in a statement that those wishing to carry placards should ensure that the messages they are carrying are in line with the celebration.

Mrs. Chanda also advised members of the public to use venues of independence celebrations for intended purposes and has urged motorists to observe traffic rules.

She has also warned that police will not tolerate any incidence of violence or conduct that would cause confusion or discontent to members of the public.

  1. Allow people to express themselves freelly muzzling can create a future explosion, just see that there is no violence.

    • Why invite everyone knowing for sure that your bosses are risk. Did want to use Opposition members as a human shield?
Use Independence for intended purposes, but Sata wants to hold a rally. For the first time in Zambia history Placards will be brought at this venues.
Zambia is in state of Confusion

    • I thought all the freedoms enjoyed by people are all enshrined in Independence and political freedom ensures that all citizens are free to question the rulers about things such as , why are the prices of Ubunga, transport and other essentials continue to go up. Why are politicians awarding themselves hefty salary increments while giving all the others meagre salary increments.
Zambia got its independence in order for its citizens to freely express themselves without intimidation. People are supposed to protest to air their grievances regarding their cost of living among other things troubling them.Clamping down on peaceful protesters by the police worries me because then it nullifies the whole notion of independence.I can’t bear to see any Zambian brutalised by the police on…

    • In Kaunda times I am told would would be jailed carrying tasteless placards

I hope they do that, because the president is doing an admirable job

HH is just a flavour of the month, the truth is if elections were heard now, his majesty would win

      Thanks

  2. There’s nothing wrong with carrying a placard protesting something. You people are still primitive and an embarrassment ! What a backward government!

    • Whilst I believe in vertical tax equity, the current PAYE top slice is too high.. For every K1 000 one earns, ba Sata takes K350 and leave you with K650. The effective tax on the net pay is over 50%. [please take out a calculator] How about reducing this to maximum of 25% on gross so that I keep K750? [still this is a third of the net]. Consider that I have to pay VAT at some 16%; excise tax on airtime [incidence of tax] at some 15% and a plethora of other levies. And latest is toll gates?

      I voted for lower taxes!!!

  3. My fellow streetkids in uniform, why should the youths protest against President Sata? Has he not fulfilled the campaign promises? Is it an offence to protest against an injustice? If they have the jobs they were promised, then yes, they are out of order BUT do they have the promised jobs? Sata is not the pope that people shud not protest against him. The best way to stem the rejuvination or growth of a tree is to remove its roots. Yes! That is the only way, the ROOT CAUSE of all this is unemployment.

  4. Ironic – is the freedom to express oneself not what ‘independence’ is all about? If a Zambian citizen can not carry let alone display a placard that expresses his or her feelings as to the current state of the nation on the 24th of October then you might as well call back the British. But then, 43% of us did freely vote for one who was a stooge of the colonial regime and actually fought against us attaining the freedoms we supposedly won on this day 49 years ago – how ironic!

  5. Leaders must know what people think for them to improve. It seems you only want YES YES people there. I am NOT attending. FREEDOM please.

  6. And yet we are celebrating our Independence but we are denied expressing our displeasures with the Government are we now slaves of our own leaders who can’nt be criticised.

  7. The guilty are always afraid, now they are afraid of and feel uncomfortable with simple and truthful messages on simple placards written by ordinary simple people, ‘we the people’.

  8. exactly what HH is talking about. there is NO freedom yet, meaning NO independence. i wish people would look at the message and NOT the messenger

  9. From the look of things all PF cadres are today drunk, because so far noone has F00lishly supported the police

    • why are you stirring the hornet’s nest?
why don’t you and your party continue hallucinating to our amusement.
2016 is just around the corner mwana…

  10. while the president is doing his best and so much in the nation is unfolding. it is important to grow the country with democracy. I dont think HE is worried about anything about what people can bring in form of placards or posters. Infact, HE loves that. It is not the duty of policy to stop posters or placards being shown to the president. That is a window for HE to see ‘what’ and it may be very invigorating to his mission to leave Zambia better than he found it. There is totally nothing wrong with peaceful demonstration or display of placards and posters. To make the police force be a monitor of such is a simple abuse of those comrades’ duty and pride, which is too be umpires f differences and accord, not stooges of stoops call. Those men are trained and deserve respect frm all. wth…

  11. THE COST OF LIVING WILL UP AND THE FINAL CONSUMER WILL BE VICTIM. WITH ALL TAXES AND REMOVAL OF SUBSIDIES I HOPE GOVT WILL MUCH THAT WITH EFFICIENT SERVICE DELIVERY TO ITS CITIZENS.
