Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Dr. Nevers Mumba has denied sanctioning a statement undersigned with his named which referred to first republican president Dr Kenneth Kaunda as a Senile retiree after he condemned the opposition for criticizing President Michael Sata.

According to the English Dictionary, if old people become senile, they become confused, can no longer remember things, and are unable to look after themselves.

Dr. Mumba told Qfm News in an interview that someone in the former ruling party issued the said statement which he did not have a look at.

Dr Mumba said he has since written to the former president Dr Kaunda to clarify the matter.

He said the words attributed to him in the statement do not form part of his language and has never used such words to any person.

Dr. Mumba said he has great respect for the first republican president to use such language towards him
He said the MMD’s only concern is the stance Dr. Kaunda has taken in by getting involved in active politics.

He further added that it is unfair to accuse him of calling the first republican president a senile retiree.

Dr. Mumba said Dr. Kaunda should be a shining example of a great leader who fought for the struggle of the country from colonialism by embracing every opposition leader to drive the country forward.

    • I take it that as usual abena Nevers asked his press aide to prepare a statement. Of course the word ‘senile’ was there, but Nevers had no clue what the word meant and did not want to show his ignorance of the word. So he signed the statement for immediate release. Lesson: if you are not sure of the meaning of certain alphabets, please consult the oxford dictionary, or google the word.

    • Nevers, your Stupid1ty cannot be defended.

just apologize to the old man or let the story stand as reported by the dog, end of story

    • Where in the UK could someone get that badge Mr Nevers Mumba is wearing on hi gorgeous suit

I personally find it hard to disbelieve him, I think he did not call Kaunda that.
      The media lied

      Thanks

    • Nevers needs to be brave and just weather the storm. Why should it him a couple of days to issue a denial? KK was wrong to be partisan but Nevers should also not disown a statement he initially supported just because there is seemingly some backlash.

    • Nevers balimukwesha ne nsele kuli HH. Leo naena nikapesha umo uwanse, arrogance, no bufi, sana. One word of advice to shimapepo Nevers is you don’t have to copy HH’s arrogance. Just be yourself. KK is our father. He does not deserve insulting.

    • Infact, I knew that something was not ok,when I saw the article, especially with the wrd ‘SENILE’ attributed to Dr Mumba. The way I know Dr Mumba,he could not have used that word on an old man like KK.He respects elderly pipo.

  1. Flip Flop. This man can never be trusted with the presidency. Very soon MM will merge with PF. This is a typical dont kubeba guy. He tells us every jim and jack as an MMD letterhead?

    • no @ malik singogo,
he is better than hh. at least he can try to put records straight were is thinks he has erred.
nevers is learning politics and learning at a fast rate, cos its not always that you show your bitterness to every jim and jack who is in surport of the ruling party.
am sure nevers has stirred a hornets’ nest in the opposition for refuting that statement. just the ensuing comments and you will agree with me.

    • mature

LT moderates all my comments, I dont know when I will be in their good books so they can stop doing it.

In front of the world and in the interest of all the masses my sincere apologies for anyone I have hurt in the past

LT can you now stop moderating me as well please? I have just apologised.

      Thanks

  2. Zambians stay away from this politics of HATRED, IGNORANCE and DISRESPECTFULNESS . Our nation is a democratic and Peace loving nation.Know where you are coming from. LONG LIVE KK!! ONE ZAMBIA!! ONE NATION!!

  3. Mwisho, ati dont kutina,if someone deserves that name, just let it be.Be strong ba Mumba, the big man deserves that name,in fact you spared him,i hope you read the coments and the names they gave him on LT bloggers.

    • @kwa kizela…you are putting a curse i=on yourself by insulting our father of this great nation! can you call your own father all those insults even if he has said something wrong! uichindike ******we!! …LONG LIVE KK!!

    • Sammy Bwalya,I suggest you look for the Video,”From the Political Archives,”then you will understand who KK is.

    • @ Kwa Kizela: Insulting elders?? Shows what kind of family you come from?? It’s not in line with our Zambian values. Respect the old man and have respect for yourself.

  4. Lets have respect for statesmen. Critise them in a constructive and respectful manner.KK can have weakness, the bad things this country was subjected during his reign because he is human but lets not forget what he did for this country. Stop sorting out issues in the media but confront one another in the spirit of love

  5. I believe Dr Mumba, this is the work of someone feeling threatened because the relationship of the president and Dr Mumba seems better than before. Why do people work so hard to bring down others, i wouldnt worry if i were Dr Mumba for no one can change destiny, if you are destined to be in good books with the president or even become the next head of state, no one can stand in the way.

    • @cindy
why you do like mapinda?? ulula iwe,,, who is the “ the someone“ who is threatened because of the relationship??

    • @Cindy. I hope you are not trying to insinuate that maybe someone from the “UPND” came and slipped that word in the statement and then Dr. Mumba signed!!!! kekekekekekekeke

    • @ Ndobo and Mbwana Mkubwa,
I know how these politicians cook up stories when they see that someone is gaining ground, of late Dr Mumba has been very candid in establishing good relations amongst politicians, which has led to some feeling threatened, am suspecting two camps, one opposition and the famous hungry wolves from the PF. Otherwise, ni ulule will follow later, Mbwana Mkubwa, it can be just like how you have put it, hihihihihihi.

    • I agree with you Cindy. No matter what any one can do to try change Dr Mumba’s destiny,it won’t work.If God has ordained that Dr Mumba shall be president of Zambia,it will definately come to psas.

  6. Mumba be serious. I hope RB will discover how treacherous you are very soon. You were enjoying subsdised wine, TBone and cakes on Independence day with old KEN on Independence day. And after becoming guilty of plundering state resources while the masses are struggling, you decide to launder yourself with a hastily impulse statement insulting Old ken to fool the masses that you are still with them. Unfortunately you miscalculated and out of over zealousness insulted the old man and told him insane. You even called HH rude for refusing to waste taxpayer’s money

  7. “Senile” is not an insult. It is a human condition that comes with old age. To varying degrees, we will all become senile in old age. It is far more respectful to attribute his odd behavior to senility than to stupidity.

    • You are right my dear on this one, human beings MUST not run away from reality. KK is best described by that, and Mumba must not apology for that, he should just kept his mouth shut.

  8. Hooo, nice summersault as usual, disgruntled as you are Nevers, just looking at you makes me morn more for Levy, he could have said “there goes my man always eating his own vomit” Yes always iam afraid.

  9. nevers never apologize for saying the truth.was kk right to use the divisive language he used in kitwe?when you are a leader, don’t be fond of apologizing for everything you say.it is a sign of weakness.

  10. Mr. Nevers Mumba if at all you read the comments I will let u know that the past 2 weeks I am immensely impressed with the line you are walking. You have displayed a reconciliatory tone (versus the confrontational PF stance) a mature stance (versus the PF immature stance)…though you have never seemed like a political leader, the past weeks have shown you are growing into a “common purpose” leader whom we require in our political landscape. Continure this path you will attract financial support from me for your party (and we all like finances)

  11. mumba is vacillating, not knowing which side to belong to. surely you can not deny a stsatement that came from your office signed by your own hand. ha – this is stupidity

    • I dont think the statement came from his office. It was certainly not signed by him. There is no statement in the press circles signed by Nevers. Some of us have tried to locate it since it was so out of character. I think the available statement just came from the MMD Seceretariat.

  12. There is nothing wrong referring to an aging person Senile. It’s a condition that occurs to every human being when they get to the old age. KK is bound to be senile at his age. Its an age that one is expected to have Loss of Concentration, Loss of memory etc.

The fact remains, KK went too far calling the opposition and Sata’s MPs foolish and *****s. He must realise that he is not in the Cold War Era with his buddies the likes of: Chairman Mao of China, Brezhnev of former Soviet Union, Joseph Tito of former Yugoslavia and so forth. Time has changed.

    Cont..

  13. Glad that he has indirectly taken back his words.I was very disappointed that a man of Pastor Mumba’s standing can sink so low.Let us respect our senior citizens.

    • @Saulosi, respect is a two way process. That is why even the Bible (Eph 6:4) advises parents not to provoke their children. We all need to respect each other. Senior citizen or not. How come we don’t see you condemning Sata, when he insults others? Instead we read statements like “that’s my president.”

  14. Nevers is just exposing his incompetence. He should take responsibility for the statement he signed and issued. How can he say he never read it? Next time he will disown MMD! LOL!

  15. This especially, when KK is being used as proxy to become an attack dog. Why can’t Sata just call all those that were calling for endorsement and address them privately? Besides, he knows them and he ( Sata ) was the one that sent them.

The bottom line, KK is still very bitter having lost to Chiluba & MMD, the fact that he preaches about God’s Love and forgiveness all the time. He took Zambians for granted thinking that – he was either going to die while in power or hand the throne to his late son.

  16. Nevers is just exposing his incompetence. He should just take responsibility for the statement he signed and issued. How can he say he never read it? Next time he will disown MMD! LOL!

  17. KK nakota kabila nayamba ukufulunguna kumulandu wakukota, tebufi iyo ichi chinshinka fye mukwayi ba Mumba wesu nangu teimwe mwasosele!

    • @kwekwe
please i beg you leave Dr Mumba alone,,, even if he did so and denying it now… its just this one small u-turn., so he can be excused!!

other people have been lying and denying since they were born… the latest u-turn being chikwelete case and cancelling of country wide private radio brodcasting licences

  18. It’s unfortunate, but the old man also should monitor what he intends to say.bwana Nevers should just apologies for the seemingly strong but appropriate language.

  19. Senile: (of a person) having or showing the weaknesses or diseases of old age, especially a loss of mental faculties.

That is what you meant Nevers!!

  20. KK has been senile for a very long time, even when he was president. How else do you explain him turning one of the most promising economies in Africa into a basket case that LPM and RB tried to turn around but which Ukwa is determined to get us back to under the guidance of …. yes you guessed it our senile KK!

  21. @independent Observer , who wouldn’t be bitter most especially if your successor scandalizes you , tries to kill you and undress you completely?. Yes, we know that KK did some wrong things to FTJ , and it was vice versa when Fred tried to eliminate the old Man.

  22. We acknowledge that former President Kaunda is the Father of the Nation to whom a diversity of political parties would draw wisdom in a democratic country. KK’s contribution to this country are abundant in terms of having laid the foundation of infrastructures.

Sata’s PF political rally conducted in Kitwe obviously curtailed the participation of the opposition parties to celebrate this great day on 24th October 2013,

In the first place why did President Sata chose to parade KK at their PF political rally on the day that the nation was expected to commemorate the independence of Zambia? The holding of a political rally on 24th October was a strange phenomenon. And the statements attributed to KK castigating some PF Ministers and opposition leaders was equally STRANGE.

  23. 21 # HardBall

I agree with you to some extent.

However, KK needs to practice what he preaches. He has preached the Gospel of Love & Forgiveness all his entire life, yet it he appears to be very bitter with a man who beat him at the ballot and is no longer on this planet earth.

Yes, KK locked Chiluba in Livingstone (Prisons ) when he was ZCTU and confiscated his passport to the extent of calling him to “ Shut Up – You Short Man with a Short Mind”.

KK needs to move on. Heeds to take leaf from Mandela who wrote off the debt of white South Africa and the things they subjected him to, in Robin Island Prison.

    Cont..

  24. I don’t agree with the way KK was treated by Chiluba but KK needs to bury the past and accept he lost. Its not MMD that beat him. Its the people of Zambia that beat him to his own game by voting him out. If anything he should mad with the whole Zambia.

  25. Its true. He wants to appear as an angel of light when in actual fact the man is a demon. Kaunda used to appear Aids sensatization advert, little dd we know that the man had a “spare wheel”.

  26. NEVERS IS LIKE SONDASHI DURING chiluba time, when he said that chiluba smokes dagga but when pressure was applied he denied when it was TRUE that he was smoking. He is like an ice cream apply a bit of heat it melts. Courage is not the absence fear but the decision one makes, judgment that there is something more important than fear. When kk was in prison there were others who fought the colonial govt.

  27. According to the English Dictionary, if old people become senile, they become:
    1. Confused – “Musiyaleni foo maLozi” to Bembas in Kasama
    2. Can no longer remember things – “Sata is not presidential material, I know this man’s father, yangu tata, Imamba taifyala imamba inankwe.”
    3. Are unable to look after themselves – “Loitering at State House everyday scrounging for food and entertainment from CNP.
    Ala Sekwile, Buchizya chacine chinangwaaaa.

  28. Every Zambian citizen is entitled to their own opinions but not to facts. The former should be respected as an inalienable right but the former should be challenged. That is how any well-meaning political discussions should be approached.

  29. Nevers! Why panic? Relax. Every zambian sees that kk is senile from his ever changing statements that are confused.

  30. KK sacrifised a lot for Zambia and the benefit of his sacrifised can a
So be seen even by the Church and ordinary persons blinda or othewise ,deaf ,lame…KK can never ever be senile no we cant just accept such and we are ready to protect the old man.let him enjoy his time and we are happy MR sata has given him the respect expected of the 1st President.i was old enough to remember how KK was heavily attacked when he lost power at the hand of that party(namuishiba party wama interllectual) he really suffered and the KAbwe incident isa case in point if you dont know what happened go and ask Dr Roger CHongwe.
