Development Analyst Nsama Chikwanka has demanded that Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda resigns from his position.

Mr. Chikwanka demanded that Mr. Chikwanda should resign following the revocation of Statutory Instrument 89 of 2014.

In an interview with Hot FM News, Mr. Chikwanka noted that Government will be unable to meet its 2014 macro-economic targets following the revocation of SI 89.

Mr. Chikwanka further noted that the public sector wage bill is likely to go beyond the set target of about 55.2 percent.

“It has become apparent that the country’s economy under the stewardship of Mr Chikwanda is nose-diving. The indicators are not positive and this economy will only be saved from total collapse if Mr Chikwanda steps down,” he said.

And Mr. Chikwanka has cautioned Government to revise its policies as it risks borrowing more money to sustain its increased expenditure.

President Micheal Sata on Monday this week directed the Zambia Revenue Authority to cancel statutory instrument 89 that allowed the removal of 10 percent export duty on copper concentrates and other minerals.

    • Taxation is the preserve of the President acting through the Minister of Finance. There is something between the two gentleman that both know and fear each other for. Say they have goods on each other. Why didnt the President admonish the Finance Minister if SI 89 is flawed, and why didnt the Minister of Finance during the Public Account Committee hearing disagree with the President if as he claims revocation of the SI will lead to revenue drop?!! Brethren there is more than meets the eye…….something binds the two that is deeper than hell!!

    • #Mulyenshi, Chikwanda is uncle to Sata and in our traditions you don’t shout at elder people. although, those insults were directed at poor ZRA boy, that was meant for the minister. its NOT true that Chikwanda didnt know what he was signing, and if he didn’t understand , why was he defending his action in parliament .

    • You are right but under Sata.

Sata should remove from his government wrestlers GBM, Kambwili, Nsanda and the lady MP in Lusaka, and replace them with Milupi, Mutesa, Magande and Fundanga.

    • Mr. Magande cannot develop Zambia alone and only working together could serve our Country. What can serve ZAMBIA is a prayer like Jesus Christ taught his disciples that you should pray like this; Matthew 6:9-10 ” May your kingdom come as it is in Heaven…..”. The current satiation is not SATA ‘s only mercy but he4 needs our support and so I have promised to work with him 100%. The only problem in PF Jehovah God knows a man cannot rule a fellow man its there written in the Bible in Genesis. Please lets build Zambia together.

  1. Interesting. My children being shouted at by my father that they misled me into buying plasma screen instead of paying for their school. it explains alot about me. Either i am irresponsible or I am not fit to be a father.

  2. I am 100% certain hon. Chikwanda knows what he is doing. Have faith fellow zambians. He is a true patriot..only wants whats best for Zambia

    • @vivachikwanda

I pity those that see credibility in chikwanda. This is the man who borrowed to an extent that Zambia end up with $7 billion debt which MMD managed to reduce and get cancelled. If we are not careful we might find our selves like Zimbabwe before they were allowed to use US $.

Clear signs are that he is failing because since PF took over the Zambian Kwacha has fallen from K7 a £1 to K8.45 a £1 and still falling. Compare this to when Mwanawasa took over, the Kwacha appreciated from k10 a £1 to K5 a £1.

Zambia’s credit ratings are falling dismally because of Chikwanda’s eat now you never know what happens tomorrow attitude.

I support those call upon him to resign.

    • @vivachikwanda

You don’t seem to understand what is going on.

The 2013 Budget was a disaster.
The 2014 Budget has collapsed even before it takes. Why so?
      1. The Wage freeze and employment freeze have fallen through. Serious trouble
      2. The SI 89 which was also considered in the budgeting process has fallen through.
      3. The referendum for the constitution adoption was not budgeted for. I m very certain PF won’t contain the pressure not to have the referendum – after all they are “listening govt” – Big trouble too.

I am seeing more bye elections and yet other unplanned expenditure in the horizon.

      etc.

      God help us

    • Chikwanda is still holding to the post purely due ba yama syndrome, which is part of this govt. If Chikwanda was standing on the truth he would resign, considering the fact that he believes govt revenue will fall out of this move. This simply implies he is going to fail to meet the target of raising revenue to meet the budget. In other words he will be a failed minister. what a shame.

  3. no he should not resign but soldier on.
that portfolio he holds is not for the faint hearted as it comes with a lot of challenges.
he cannot be 100% on every decision he makes otherwise he is doing fine in my view.
in football they say: you win some you loose some.

    • It is either Magande or Musokotwane. Chiluba’s Finance Ministers including Nawakwi were useless. According to Nawakwi’s own words ‘the IMF and World Bank misled’ them on the advice they gave them!

    • Even the best finance minister in the world would not perform under that confused and useless spectacle at state house. The answer is to remove that ‘Aristide Bance’ in fact it is an insult to call that ukwa ‘bance’ because atleast bance performed at the Africa cup but this nsokanda from muchinga is bent on infecting the nation with a never before seen level of mediocrity!

    • Nawakwi – you must be joking! Such a dull and ill experiened crazy woman in bed! We dont want another Carlington maize scandall – leave the thieving woman alone!!

  4. During the recession Honorable Mangande steered Zambia so as the effects of 2008’s global financial meltdown were but a breeze. Nawakwi was a genius as finance minister. I love Heritage party but supporting these two former finance ministers. MMD’s original ministers were good, but a few. Wise people open your eyes.

  5. This namalyanga at plot one is the problem. How can someone who idolises a snake be head of state. The beast does not even take care of it’s own. May God save Zambia!

    • I bet if Sata had the opportunity to borrow the exact ammount with we borrowed from Independence this country would have been better than the RSA.

Zambia if you dont know is currently the model of development in Africa. May except for politics.

It is just that Sata can never be your man of choice.

    • The development gains that Zambia has seen have nothing to do with Sata. It is the manifestation of development plans initiated under Mwanawasa and Banda. If you ask sata to supervise gardeners yes he will do a good job as he did when he was district governor for lsk. Anything that requires proper strategic developmental planning then you will start to see the comedian appearing. Sata is harphazard, confused and only interested in maintaining his political position period. This is from one who has seen him in action even before 1991! God truly help Zambia!

  6. Ratings can be confusing. Moving a country from B+ to B rating is very much alright. Naturally, it is even better to remain at the same rating of B+ or go higher than that. The real issue here is to ensure that ordinary consumers enjoy a breath of fresh air from time to time. Grwoth and growth and growth without breathing leads to industrial unrest and eventually the bubble conomy simply goes burst. Please take time to judge the national economy. Avoid jumping to quick conclusions.

  7. One blogger wrote this….Yes those who voted PF are the real *****s. We warned them several times but they couldn’t listen. If those who worked with Sata like FTJ(Rip),the *****s couldn’t listen to him that he’s a total fool and comedian. Now look where they have put our country in.

I agree with you, *****iz are the …………..

  8. One blogger wrote this….Yes those who voted PF are the real *****z. We warned them several times but they couldn’t listen. If those who worked with Sata like FTJ(Rip),the *****z couldn’t listen to him that he’s a total fool and comedian. Now look where they have put our country in.

I agree with you, *****iz are the …………..

  9. It’s not only Alexander Chikwanda who should resign, even Michael Sata should retire. The duo will cause the economy to collapse. We need a prudent economist to head the Ministry of Finance and a level-headed President in State House in order to avert a financial crisis. The signs of a looming disaster are already there.

  10. I THINK THIS GVNT IS THE WORST IN SOUTHERN AFRICA AND IN THE HISTORY OF MOTHER ZAMBIA.SATA DOESN’T KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING GUYS.I DON’T HAVE ANY WORDS

    • It is not even worth calling a government. Call it anything, shambles, chaos, confusion, hooliganism, cadreism, kerfuffle, nonsense. Anything but governance. It is just an embarrassing gang of people that don’t know what they are doing, what they want to achieve and how. So the answer is to bully all around and make noise. Seriously this is not a government and if the guy was not from muchinga we would have been hearing all about it but alas I guess it is support your local team nangu chi puba cho pitilila! God save Zambia!

  11. We do not earn our revenue by exporting copper concentrate. I do not know what Mr. Chikwanka is trying to say. If anything we will be exporting copper to which value has been added through smelting plus the 10% duty that will be collected from export of copper concentrate. I do not see how the country will fail to meet its macro economic targets. If anything the move will help the government to exceed its macro economic targets. We will be exporting goods of higher value and penalise those who fail to add value.

    • The issue is policy vacillations. This shifting of policy is dangerous to the country is economy. What are the variables that they are considering now which were not considered then. Sata’s government is a perfect kojo comes to campus drama scene. This gang have no idea what it means to govern a country.

  12. Not only Chikwanda to resign but also the most useless and foolish president in the world must also step down. It’s official Zambia has the da mnest president ever – check the your records!

  13. Breaking news!! Zambia’s ailing Sata crowned the most incompetent , clueless and stu pid president in the world at present!

  14. The idea that the president and the minister of finance must both hail from the same village is archaic and a recipe for economic disaster.

  15. I fail to understand Mr Sata sometimes. There are some people who have caused stress in PF but have been treated with kid gloves, what crime has Mwamba committed? On principle Chikwanda should also resign over the SI.

  16. Good people.
Does it mean the president never saw the budget before it was presented? Cabinet did not approve it and we’re reading it for the first time? Shocking.
Secondly, the minister reads the budget like this….”mr speaker, I am bearer of a message from the president….”

Wrap ya Munzi…. We have a very big problem!

  17. am one of the 2000 people who voted for RB in nchanga constituency. things are bad in KCM, it was audited by ZRA and it was found that employees owe ZRA an average of K5000 each. in todays communication meeting kaunda said they’ll continue deducting this money despite the minister saying they should never deduct. copper ya mana badala

  18. MAGANDE in the driver’s seat !!!!!!!!!!!
MAGANDE in the driver’s seat !!!!!!!!!!!
MAGANDE in the driver’s seat !!!!!!!!!!!
MAGANDE in the driver’s seat !!!!!!!!!!!

  19. This is a God given opportunity to bring Magande as Finance Minister. Chikwanda has resigned and let him go and rest in peace.

  20. The problem is transparancy an ideology.

If there is no transparancy, corruption is almost guaranteed, because the forces at work at too great for any individual to deal with, without the public at his back.

Ideology – the neoliberal ideology of ‘free trade, deregulation and privatisation’ is the most dangerous ideology in existence. Once you don’t believe in government, anything you do to destroy government is justifiable. Selling contracts to the lowest bidder for kickbacks, handing over parts of a province to a mining company (how many people will be thrown off their land is no concern to you), etc.

We need nationalists in power, who see through the IMF/World Bank/Goldman Sachs (Dambisa Moyo) bankers and their veneration of dividend payments.

  21. sata must consider bringing musokotwane as finance. simbao as health, mutati as commerce and konga as agriculture minister.

  22. Its not about bringing Magande of whoever back, its aboout having a qualified Finance Minister who will be given the oppotunity to make decisions and not be told what to do and what not to do.

  23. Awe Bayama bakula……. Bayama served under Kaunda, Chiluba and now Sata. Bayama started being a minister in 1968. Awe lekeni baye batusheko.

  24. SATAn TRUST ABAKOTE ONLY. AN ADVOCATE OF CIVIL SERVANTS SERVING UP TO 65 YEARS. YABA, I CANT IMAGINE THAT CIVIL SERVICE. RETIRE AND ENJOY YOUR MONEY!

  25. ABC is highly qualified and capable of identifying policy measures for bolstering our economy. The only problem is, he appears to be surrounded by those who want him to fail. Mark my words, it’s just a matter of time, ABC will soon relinquish his position on principle, not coercion.
