Sikota not convinced with explanation on printing of ten copies

Lawyer Sakwiba Sikota

Opposition United Liberal Party (ULP) president Sakwiba Sikota says he is still not convinced with government’s explanation on the directive for the technical committee drafting the constitution to print only 10 copies of the final draft constitution.
Vice president Guy Scott recently clarified in Parliament that the printing of the 10 copies of the final draft constitution is only ceremonial as the first copies to be handed over to President Michael Sata.

Mr. Sikota is however of the view that the onus is still on the Patriotic Front (PF) government to convince the nation on its decision to printing only 10 copies of the final document.

He says the decision by the PF government to exclusively have access to the final draft constitution is also suspicious.

Mr Sikota says by direct the printing of only 10 copies of the draft constitution, the PF government is hypothetically mudding the waters on the country’s new constitution and that it is unlikely things will settle.

The ULP president was speaking in an interview with Qfm News.

    • Whether 10 copies or less, I would rip them in my bathroom and clean the place where the sun doesn’t shine.

Not interested, put them on line, and stop using the word ‘print’ Be green, In Europe Cloud , emails, and electronic data is the way forward.

Wait I forgot we are talking about a third world country, with third world way of thinking.
Could someone please pass a puke bucket?

      Thanks

    • Candid advise to the PF, is that I have lost patience with Politicians the moment I voted MMD out. What you say is what you do baba!!!

I will not wait to VOTE PF OUT or bring in another Government to have the constitution that I and majority of my fellow citizens want. Stop wasting the money collected from the taxes I pay.

I will have the constitution I want, whether anyone suppossedly in Government likes it on not. Whoever stands in our way will be sidelined………

    • Iwe ka Mushota waba ibele ilifumya shiki! Ulecindika yo roots. When yu talk, always remember that yo father is still here in africa eating bondwe

  1. We do not need to convince YOU. WE ARE DOING IT……10 COPIES ONLY. If you want put in an injunction to stop us print the 10 . WE ARE GOING AHEAD……

    • just remember who put you in that office, your days are numbered, Kaunda thought he was going to die in power, mmd thought they were a best thing that happened to Zambia after Unip, and you think you can do as you like, time will tell.

    • I seemed to have lost patience with Politicians the moment I voted MMD out.

My word to PF is that I will not wait to VOTE YOU OUT or bring in another Government to have the constitution that I and majority of my fellow citizens want. I will have it now whether anyone suppossedly in Government likes it on not.

    • WE HAVE ALREADY PRINTED THE 10 Copies. They are all be kept at state house. Whoever wants to read the constitution must go to state house. We cannot allow utumaloya twabufi tu mislead our people.

    • @Chikopa stop exposing you ignorance. Speak for yourself and not everyone else. Don’t include me and my siblings in your “our people.” We have gone to school can tell for ourselves whether we are being misled or not.

  2. The supposed explanation by Guy Scott cannot convince even a 10 year old. They should tell us the real reason why they want only 10 copies, and not this ceremonial rubbish!

  3. This is yet another signpost among the the so many we have seen so far of a ruthless dictator hell-bent on violating every rule in book to exclude others and continue in power against majority wish. Surely Zambians we have seen enough, also confirmed what we already knew that sata is unfit as president from whichever angle you look at. What is it going to take to stop it? We urgently need answers from all of us.

  4. BWANA SIKOTA, A DRAFT IS A DRAFT. IT DOES NOT HAVE A ‘SEMI’ OR ‘FINAL’ DRAFT.

LET US CUT COSTS WHERE WE CAN. WE CAN DO WITH 10 COPIES OF THE DRAFT. FOR THE TIME BEING.
THE OTHER COPIES COULD BE DISTRIBUTED VIA NEWSPAPERS AND ELECTRONICALLY.

THE ‘FINAL’ COPY OF THE CONSTITUTION COULD EITHER BE PRINTED AS MULTIPLE COPIES OR COULD BE ELECTRONIC AS WELL. WHAT IS THE ISSUE HERE?

  5. So it would seem that we are all in agreement that the “10 copies” story is a load of bull!
Let them print the 10 copies and give them to the president in whatever ceremony they want.

And to the rest of us who want to make progress, let them post the document electronically online [yes, I had to use all those words!].

That is how we make progress.

Let us keep in mind that the constitution DOES NOT belong to PF.
    It belongs to ALL Zambians.

    #OneZambia

  6. Ka mushota naka chikopa you are trolls just posting ma rubbish to annoy people stupid idiots.

  7. I totally agree with Sikota. Scott thinks Zambian are dull that’s why he is always patronizing. Yes the presentation of the 10 copies could have been ceremonial but more copies should have been allowed to be printed. The Constitutional committee should have been allowed to present the ceremonial ten copies at the same time allowed to release the same report to the public. That way the PF would have shown that they have nothing to hide. As it is as usual, they have messed this thing for no good reason at all. What a bunch of goons! And to think there have a learned Attorney General and a Minister of Justice, my foot!

  8. Let me be frank. I have never possessed s copy of any past constitution of Zambia and have never even read them. I am however knowlegeable about some provisions through reading or hearing about them from some NGOs etc.

However I have read the draft constitution that was submitted for public comments in the newspapers. As for the printing of 10 copies I see no need for all the hullabaloo from some sections of society as the document is still a draft and printing 1000 copies or 10 copies the document is still a draft! If citizens are not happy with the final draft there is a process to reject it! I find the debate on the 10 copies really Unintelligent!

  9. OK. ITS FINAL NOW, GOVT WILL NOT PRINT 10 BUT 11 COPIES OF THE FINAL DRAFT CONSTITUTION. THE 11th COPY WILL BE GIVEN TO NGOCC WHO WILL PHOTOCOPY AND DISTRIBUTE TO THEIR MEMBERS. A SCANNED COPY WILL BE SENT TO LAZ BY EMAIL PERIOD!
