Union wants nurses to call off strike

Share

The Zambia Union of Nurses Organisation has called on striking nurses to call off their strike as the union and government has started negotiation for the 2014 improved salaries and conditions of service for nurses and midwives in the country.

ZUNO General Secretary Liseli Sitali disclosed in a statement that the union and government have intensified the negotiations process that will also address the demands that were submitted by nurses and midwives through various branch and provincial structures.

Mr. Sitali said that the two parties are working tirelessly to conclude the negotiations and adequately address the nurses’ demands.

He said that ZUNO is alive to the nurses’ demands and have incorporated all their grievances in their demand document.

Mr. Sitali added that the nurses continued strike was likely to jeopardise the on-going bargaining process hence the need to call off their strike action and allow the rules of the bargaining process to take effect.

Nurses and midwives at UTH and several places hospitals in Zambia are on striking pressing the government to award them 21 percent salary increment.

  1. These nurses are just trying to be funny. Its like they think they are the only ones who needs the increase.Teachers, police officers, soldiers and judicially workers need it also.

  2. I sympathise with the nurses. The truth about Union Leaders is that there is so much money in Union coffers which is at their disposal and they do not feel the pinch in the economy, Ask Shamenda and Liato if you don’t believe. Union Leader are easily bought by Management and don’t truthfully represent the workers. Their eyes are set on being the next Labour Minister.

My dear sisters (and brothers), kick Sitali’s bum,

  3. Now nurses are becoming too fun. They have also gone too far….are they the only civil servants???? Please just fire them ..we are tired of their insipid behaviour…shaaa.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
