The opposition Movement for Multi Party (MMD) has maintained that President Michael Sata phoned MMD President Dr. Nevers Mumba threatening him with a jail sentence.
Yesterday President Sata expressed shocked at Pastor Mumba’s decision to ‘deliberately distort facts surrounding an honest conversation he had with him and turned it around with a coat of lies and illusions.
MMD Presidential Spokesperson, Muhabi Lungu, has told QFM News in an interview that Special assistant to the President for Press and Public Relation George Chellah should stop issuing out statements when he did not understand what President Sata and Dr. Mumba had spoken about.
Mr. Lungu says Dr. Mumba has a heart for Zambia and he cannot stop to talk about issues affecting the nation and that Mr. Chellah should learn how to be professional in his conduct.
He adds that Mr. Chellah is not aware of the threats that President Sata had made on the MMD leader adding that the conversation was just between the two of them.
Mr. Lungu says President Sata should not question Pastor Mumba’s leadership quality and sympathizing with dismissed nurses is not wrong because he is a leader and he understands what the dismissed nurses are going through.
Meanwhile, Opposition Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) has demanded for the immediate rein-statement of all Nurses Countrywide.
MMD Leader Nevers Mumba says it is unfortunate that government has failed to dialogue with the Nurses despite writing and apologizing.
Dr. Mumba notes that it is depressing that as the Citizenry approach Christmas hundreds of families across the Country will spend this festive season with no food because Nurses are out of employment.
He adds that it is also depressing that many Families will Spend time burying their loved ones who are dying in record numbers in Hospitals because government has decided to fire all Nurses indiscriminately.
Meanwhile Dr. Mumba has demanded for the immediate reinstatement of government Subsidy on Mealie Meal.
He notes that many people cannot afford to buy a bag of Mealie Meal which now cost ninety kwacha because government has removed the Subsidy which helps to cushion the poorest of the poor amongst all.

If the conversation was between Sata and Mumba then it becomes very hard to know the truth. Mumba shows he is an amateur politician by telling the world about it. Get evidence or a witness baba imwe ba pastor before making an allegation unless you are riding on a wind of popularity. Popularity we all know the MMD doesnt have.

When did the Zambian President become a Judge or Magistrate ? Knowing the gentleman who was made President, he doe not even know that he does not have such powers.
Because he was a Police man, I believe he thinks that now that he is President then he has the powers to order anyone to go to jail.

Because if the President had indeed threatened the fellow, why did the fellow not wait for the final judgement in his case with the courts on Monday to use them (the threats) as evidence of a politically motivated judgement or interference in judicial matters by the executive?

The allegations made by the Pastor against the President of threatening him (an ordinary citizen) with jail term are fairly serious because they cast aspersions on the office of the president. I wish someone could challenge the Pastor in the courts of law to prove them.
If the President is the one who called called him, surely the President (as I know him) might have begun with a “family greeting”.
So, I don’t see how words in a casual telephone call could suddenly turn into threats!
Apart from your case which is before court, why should anyone jail you? Prison jail for what? Please tell us pastor!

Yeah I read that shallow statement by the President’s Special Press Assistant. It was shocking to think it was coming from the highest office in the nation. It was like reading a Grade 7 student trying to sound intelligent in a letter to the popular girl he likes by spewing out words he has just heard in a biology class without ever knowing their meaning:

Being a journalist is one thing and you really need qualified public relations personnel to do the job Mr Chellah is doing. I really don’t understand why he has to be rude and sarcastic every time he responds to criticism. Can’t he just be polite and deliver the same message? Is this a Zambian thing or something? He tries hard to sound rude, tough and intelligent by pulling all these buzz words – he just needs to be simple and polite.
Can’t he just emulate his counterparts in other countries how they represent the office of the president?
