The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority -ZICTA- has maintained that today January 31st is the deadline for simcard registration.

ZICTA Public Relations Manager NGABO NANKONDE says by midnight today all unregistered SIMCARDS will be disconnected.

Ms NANKONDE however says that the disconnected simcards will have two days to register and have their simcards re-connected.

She has also explained that all mobile operators have assured ZICTA that they will undertake a re-registration exercise for Simcards that were registered but will be accidentally dis-connected.

Ms NANKONDE however says that Simcards owners will have to show proof of having registered in the form of slips that mobile companies where giving out after one registers a simcard.

And Transport and Communications Minister YAMFWA MUKANGA says there will be no extension of simcard registration.

Mr. MUNGANGA has warned that all unregistered SIMCARDS will cease to operate today.

  1. Kindly note that you must ensure that you have input allthe registered number even from all your remotest agents of most cities and towns.
Some people have registered their sims and have proof to show and YOU MUST NOT DISCONNECT their phones as you may end up in huge Legal suits if you do not do your home works properly.

    • This is a serious matter Mr Minister and your ZICTA agency. Save this country huge sums of money from legal suits. Personally I have registered my number twice. One in Chilanga and the one in Arcades and have receipts to show registration of my numbeer twice. 0973 709 110.
Please do not disconnect my number as we are many who used your fake appointed agents and they have no capacity to send the registrations to the various mobile companies. Mr Yamfwa Mukanga please DONOT cost money unnecessarily. This country is poor and do not rush and listen to people who want you to fail.

  2. forget about ZICTA or whoever……I entered into covenant with Airtel on one to one basis in 2008. The deal was that I buy their Airtel Samsung phone and the scope was that they provide me with a ‘communication service’ as long as I pay for it. The ‘gentleman’s contract did not include submitting my personal data to them at any time. If Airtel disables my sim because I don’t subscribe to the variation order(additional scope), will tantamount to breach of contract and I should have the right to return ‘their’ phone and demand a full refund. I cannot use the phone anywhere else expect on Airtel ‘line’…….so the phone will be rendered useless to me.
I’m on your(Airtel) door step tomorrow morning for my refund if I’m disconnected

  3. ….propaganda info has it that only 7m out of 10 million have registered. 3m to be deactivated…..
ZCTA has nothing to lose…… Service providers and Govt have.
    K3,000,000 x K10(Avg per day) =K30m…x 30days =K900m…. X 12Months =K10.8bn which is K10.8 Trillion in old currency ….about 10% of the national budget.
Those tuma school leavers doing part time sales and promotions stand to lose out…back on loafers queue

  4. Just withdraw some of the services on offer. Like people can receive calls but may not send. They may not even add airtime. That way they will register. As pointed out earlier on, most countries even our neighbouring countries have the registration system in place.
Only selfish people will sue the providers to inconvenience the 7 Million plus people.
