The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has commended government for successfully constructing a police station in Mwandi district in Western province.
Speaking when Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakula paid a courtesy call on the Kuuta in Mongu today, Induna Inete (Akapewa Silumbu) said BRE shares government’s view of promoting and maintaining peace and unity across the country.
Induna Inete who bemoaned that the province was currently faced with security challenges in rural most areas hence the need to replicate both police stations and posts in all the newly created districts.
He further appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs through the provincial Police office to consider putting up a police station in Limulunga district and Lealui royal village.
And in response, Dr Simbyakula assured the BRE that government is committed to improving infrastructure in Western province.
The Home Affairs Minister told the Kuuta that government has already awarded a contract to Kamunge Enterprise for the construction of a police station in Limulunga district and construction will commence next month.
Dr Simbyakula further said that tender procedure for the construction of a police post in Lealui royal village is also in the process.
Meanwhile, Induna Inete appealed to government to consider revisiting its decision to give duo citizenship privileges to former Angolan Refugees currently in the province due to scarce resources in the country.
He explained that most former Angolan refuges cannot adapt to the standard of living of people in the plains, hence they opt to survive in the forest where they are allegedly depleting trees.
Meanwhile, Induna Inete questioned as to why government decided to allow duo citizenship privileges to former refuges in Western province only.
Dr Simyakula was accompanied by Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Brig. General Idah Chola, Deputy Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Angela Mulenga, Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani, PF Provincial Chairman Kenneth Namutulo and Provincial Deputy Permanent Secretary Mwangala Liomba among others.
