Kaushi slams clubs failure to honour Kalambo

Share

Ex-KK 11 defender Simon Kaodi Kaushi has expressed disappointment over local club’s failure to show a mark of respect for the deceased legendary Zambia 1974 Africa Cup star Kaiser Kalambo during midweek
league matches.

The 60-year-old ex-Zambia and Ndola United midfield star died in Lusaka on March 18 after an illness.

Kaushi said FAZ should have instructed Super League and Division One clubs to observe a moment of silence and wear black armband during the midweek games in honor of Kalambo.

The Mufulira Blackpool legend said it was regrettable that clubs in the Super League and Division One played matches on Wednesday without acknowledging Kalambo.

“FAZ should have instructed Super League and Division One clubs to observe a moment of silence and wear black armband during the midweek games, the teams were just playing games as if everything was a well
in the country,” Kaushi said.

“Like they do in Europe we are supposed to show respect to our hero. Kalambo was not an ordinary player, he was a dependable and captain of the national team,” he added.

Kaushi expressed sadness over the death of his colleague who is being put to rest at Lusaka’s Memorial Park on Friday.

“I am saddened by that death. Kalambo was a hardworking and dependable player,” Kaushi said.

He is survived by a wife and six children.

    • Ba Kalusha teti bafishibe ifyo Kaodi alelandapo.

By the way Kaushi Kaodi was not a defender. He was top man with Benard Chanda.

    • Total failure at the helm ,,,FAZ to be precise, will be interesting to hear what FAZ says reading the failure by clubs to homour our fallen heroe!!!…but particularly what their policy is with reagrds to such issues…wont be suprised if there isnt,,,symptomatic and typical of short sighted management thinking……well “KK may you rest in peace” their are many folks around that appreaciated your contributions, and we shall endevour to sing your legacy,,and condolences to the familiy……i rest my case.

  1. Agreed ba Kaushi, infact his GRZ should have accorded the hero a national mourning. FAZ should be ashamed of themselves, the man was captain of the national team for some time and contributed immensely to the development of the game in the country and should have been honoured in even in death.

  2. I personally new Ba late KK (Kalambo) and I concur with you Ba KK (Kaushi)
It’s not too late to do it. What you should have done is alert the young man Kalusha about how things should be done.

  3. I still remember Kaodi Kaushi for his long throw-ins. Kalambo for his tenacity in defence. Rest in peace Kaizer.

  4. No wonder Lota was buried in South Africa…with attitudes like this from FAZ. Ba Kalambo was going to be accorded a lot of respect if he had died in Botswana where even children in Lobatse knew how great he was. Other countries seem to appreciate our heroes much more than us. Rest in peace dear child of our land.

  5. LOOK AT WHO IS TALKING ABOUT SOCCER? NOBODY KNOWS YOU IN ZAMBIA, JUST WAIT AND SEE HOW NKANA WILL BE BUTCHERED BY ZAMALEK THEN WRITE A STORY ABOUT THEM ..

    • You don’t know him because you were born yesterday and you are ignorant in as far as Zambian football history is concerned.

    • Anyoko, please do not express yo ingorance over a subject u do not know. Am sure u must have been a sperm or less when kaodi kaushi was playing football. U would do best by asking yo mum or dad about him, assuming they were not in the village by then. U foolish boy

  6. Farewell Kaiser.

Indeed, though we were still young when this gallant Man represented Zambia, I was privileged to have known some of his children and his hard work was reflected in them. I was at the Burial this morning and was touched by the Heroes (KK Eleven members) in attendance. Thanks to Government for being Present through Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President.
Like Macha said, in echoing what the Minister had said, there is need for Faz to come up with a Policy Flame work that would safeguard our heroes in their time of need. Start with all teams in the Premier league. An A/C where all Players in the Premier league would contribute a 100 a Month would go a long way, especially that one’s football career can end at any time (My view).

    Farewell KK (kaiser…

  7. KAIZER KALAMBO WAS AGREAT PLAYER DURING HIS TIME. I USED TO WACTH HIM PLAY FOR NDOLA UNITED AND KK11 AT DAG STADIUM. I REMEMBER WHEN ZAMBIA PLAYED TAIFA STARS (TANZANIA) AND THERE WAS THAY KEEPER JUMA PONDAMALI. IT WAS A FANTASTIC MATCH. I BLAME FAZ FOR ALL THE NOT CARING TYPE OF BUSINESS. FAZ SHOULD KEEP ITS RECORDS UPTO DATE. TODAY ITS KAIZER NOT BEING REMEMBERED 2MORO IT WILL BE THE CURRENT CROP OF NATIONAL TEAM PLAYERS. WHAT IS GEORGE KASENGELE HAVE TO SAY ON THIS SUBJECT?

  8. The passing of Kaiser Kalambo at age 60 is a great shock to me. Kaiser grew up in Luanshya and played for Roan United in the mid 60’s when I was chairman of Roan United. He relocated to Ndola where he played for Ndola United and matured into one of the best defenders. He later played for Zambia National Team.

In 1983 when I was chairman of Ndola United Kaiser was my team captain and was instrumental in our team defeating Green Buffaloes in a cup final match played at Independence Stadium Lusaka in 1983

I am grateful to God who allowed me to personally know Kaiser not just as a player but a great soccer player and a great leader.

May His Soul Rest In Eternal Peace

    • It’s a privilege to have someone able to give first hand information about our football heroes. It will be nice if people like you could facilitate a process of updating Zambian football history records from the fifties to date. Otherwise It will be a shame to lose the likes of Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu, Fred mwila, Ement Kapengwe alongside other great players current and past rom our soccer history. It’s important to do this as football is the only common language that.knows no political boundary. Everyone is on the Same page.

  9. @ BaJoe. Thank you for your comments but it is not Policy FLAME work but FRAME work. Good attempt though….

  10. I remember Kaiser Kalambo very short.Dennis Liwewe called tools and hardware. We used to watch him mumapili when playing City of Kitwe.

Kaushi Kaodi after Mufulira Black Pool joined City of Kitwe.

    • Nope@papa, “tools” was Benard Mutale, Kaizer was Kaizer! Am pleasantly surprised Simon Kaudi Kaushi is alive! Just as I was stunned to hear Mark Masambuko is around. To FAZ? One day you too will pass on I hope the honour you have bestowed on the likes of Willie Phiri, Denis Lota and now KK is the same honour you will get!

  11. Ba Simon Kaodi Kaushi and others you have been too quiet not to be heard! Please start writing books about Zambian football then and how you used to deal with the likes of Mukombo, Ndaye, Kidumu, Kazadi, Lobilo, Mukombo, Mayanga, Kakoko and others on the field!

You can also write about how difficult team selection was (if there was any at all) when you had in the same team the greats like Godfrey “Ucar” Chitalu, Alex Chola, Moses Simwala, Brighton Sinyangwe, Benard Chanda, Willie Phiri, Dickson Chama, Dickson Makwaza, etc, i.e. if you played alongside them (and may the souls of departed greats Rest in Eternal Peace)! Is it also true that use of “juju” at that time was very rife and if so, why not write about such things i.e. how players were using them, why and if they were…
