Mbita Chitala calls for the ouster of all non MMD founding leaders, they just hijacked the party and causing squables

MMD founder member, Mbita Chitala has said the current uncertainty in the party can be contributed to it being managed by non founding members.

Mr Chitala said the insecurity in the major opposition political party was as a result of senior party officials’ lack of understanding of the party’s basic principles on which it was founded.

He said the only remedy to sustain the MMD was to call for an urgent convention and oust out all those who hijacked the party.

Mr Chitala who joined concerned senior party officials on the need to hold a convention said the MMD risked being swallowed by other political parties and that electing new crop of leaders would settle the wrangles..

“The need to go for a convention is ripe so that it can get rid of non founding members of the party who did not understand the founding principles, the manifesto as well as the constitution, this is what has contributed to current squabbles,” said Mr Chitala.

He said MMD’s challenge is that it was being handled by outsiders hence the need to get back to its roots and focus on re-branding it by changing the party manifesto, constitution and concentrate on developing it.

Mr Chitala said the current wrangles should not be taken lightly because they had potential to contribute to the collapse of the party and ensure that non founder members were gotten rid of immediately.

In an interview today, Mr Chitala said the MMD had been hijacked by people with different divergent views, a situation which had exasperated the founding members.

He said confusions in the party started when former President Levy Mwanawasa who left a good legacy died and the party was left in the hands of non founders who started embracing non founders and allowed them to start frustrating old members.

He said people like the current party president Nevers Mumba, former Lusaka chairperson, William Banda and others were allowed to harass old members they found like, Catherine Namugala and Major Richard Kachingwe without considering the repercussion.

“The current leader had a political party, it is common knowledge, cadres came in after Dr Mwanawasa left a good legacy, after his death party cadres came and were allowed to embarrass senior party officials, the risk of continuing with this scenario is that the party will be swallowed in other parties, it has 50 Members of Parliament (MP) and sustenance is the convention,” he said

    • Mbita Chitala should not be taken seriuosly. He left MMD years ago and formed his party with late Dean Mungomba. The same is with Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika who equally formed his party with his sister.Major Richard Kachingwe is a new comer in MMD who only forged his entry into the party through a corrupt Branch official in Libala.he too left MMD to join FDD from which he came back and sneaked himself to become National Secretary. It is the same non original members who have kept MMD where it is today.Nevers Mumba’s term ends in April 2016.At this point there will be no excuse to hold a General Convention.Mbita Chitala is a mere PF cadre as he campaigned against MMD IN 2011.He no longer is a worthwhile person to talk about MMD.

    • What a rag of a “politician”! Derrick Chitala, which party do you belong to?Being present at time founding a party doesn’t give you the right to stop others from exercising the right to freedom of association.Mind you, MMD is a vibrant party undergoing constant renewal from people with new ideas, that’s why new and old members blend in well to give it a democratic flavour you can’t find anywhere in these new personal-to-holder parties. You campaigned for Sata but never got a job you hoped for.Talking of founding members, how shallow! Are you able to bring back Arthur Wina,FTJ,LPM,ChristoneTembo, Chitalu Sampa,Remmy Mushota,Ronald Penza,Emmanuel kasonde and others if new members don’t join?your mouth is as loose as Sata’s, just find another job, politics isn’t yours.

    • I agree with some comments. Only Vernon Johnson Mwaanga among the living can truly claim to be a genuine founding member of the only Democratic Party to have been born in the last 3 decades, perhaps on the entire African continent-TheMMD. VJ is knowledgeable and a steady politician who stands head and shoulders above the rest.He would have been the first Tonga Zambian president or UN Secretary General if it wasn’t for that small taint on his name.In my books he’s a Zambian hero and the only non-presidential office holder deserving of a plot at Embassy Square when his time is done. Not Michael Sata, oh no.

  1. I think this chap has just run out of ARVs. Who told you the a party should always be run by founder members. Probably that is why the party is having difficulties because of myopic people like you who think a party can never outlive the life of its founding fathers.

So in your small HIV infested brain you believe that MMD should not exist in 100 years time because all it’s founders would have been dead. How shallow can you get. I thought you were actually one of the smart young turks in MMD. Anyway I will blame a concortion of ARVs and HIV effect on your brain. Time to retire my brother and keep watching from the sidelines. You just have no clue. You sound like a broke hired gun by PF scared of Nevers Mumba.

    • @MMD Die Hard, I think you’re being harsh to Chitala. He has a point that he’s not putting across properly – every organisation has core values and principles upon which it is founded as well as a culture of conducting its business, and reasons for its existence. Chitala is simply saying that those currently at the helm of MMD are not living up to these ideals and probably don’t even know or understand them! The MMD was formed as a broad church of politically mature people who succeeded in getting Zambia transformed from a one party state to multi party politics through a peaceful, civilized and organized campaign. This culminated into a very strong tribally balanced opposition party of choice in all corners of our country and which was tolerant and respectful of other political…

    • @ MMD Die Hard …..

You are the one who has ran out of ARVs. That is why you can’t get the point he is delivering. Please make sure you follow the doctor’s instructions for how to take those ARVs. You see now, the ka-shi-shi is now getting into your brain.

    • Chitala you are a greed man and doesn’t even deserve to be in that party. You are a stereo type and lack common sense.

    • All you guys condemning Chitala were either born after 1990 or being disingenuous-MMD was founded by Chitala and Akashambatwa lewanika -it was their brain child-so he has a right to speak and be heard

  2. This Man is sick in the head.If that’s the direction MMD will take then I concur with those who are saying that it should be buried.Infact an outsider is the one talking.

  3. @diehard.
Have respect iwe ngwele. If there weren’t very brave men like Mbita and Akashambatwa in Zambia at that time, would you have been able to open your sleazy beak to say the trash you are spewing today? There was the RED BRICK for such as you! Chopeti!

  4. WTF are you on? Non members My foot! Reallly?!
What about personal conquests by original, new or non members, external factors due to an undefined world we have embarked on? C’mon cut le some slack, do peeple need to be educated on why relations tend to fail or just how each season comes with a different tide of challenges which depending on the manship you have enganged withh determine whether your crew will survive or not? Zambians tamwasalapuka iwe? Waoh just waoh!
Failure can be caused by different attributions in life but that does not finger point the indigenousness of memebers as a symptom, maybe and sometimes but not in this case, this is gewoon totaal BS Bo Mbita!

  5. I have lots of respect for Chitala but I think something is wrong in his statement. All organizations are started by founders. They grow out of the hands of founders. You cannot insist for example that founders of ANC in South Africa should be the only ones who should lead. Do you mean UNIP should be led by founders? I respect the contributions you made to the democracy of this country but please keep quiet if your have no ideas for supporting the growth of MMD or any other party. Yes people can revisit the original principles and ideas but cannot certainly run a Party now going to its third decade with the same people. You should then not talk about democracy – otherwise MMD should not have allowed NM to stand as he was not a founder! Strange thinking Ba Dr.

  6. I am with you sir.
Like the leader of those who beat up Major Richard Kachingwe.
    Show him the door sir.
    MMD Peace and Love

  7. You can’t keep on talking about founder members leading an organisation which is almost 25 years old. What about young men and women in their 40s who were teenagers when MMD was formed, are they not suitable to lead the party? Organisations like Political Parties have to be dynamic, they need to undergo re-branding over the years. You can’t continue talking about founding members when the said members have been jumping from one party to another. Derick (Mbita) Chitala formed ZADECO with late Mungomba, bounced back when Levy brought him back, he then joined PF during the 2011 elections. The only surviving founder member who has stuck with MMD is VJ . The rest from the great AKA to the Winas had to abandon the party at one time or another.

    • Admittedly many of us are fearful of the inevitable – change. However hard we try to stick to something, change must come at some point. One way to measure success
is give up what you love most and see how it transforms after parting.

Mbita has no point here. Sata is wrecking PF and the country because of the ‘founder syndrome’. May be the only thing we can try to stick to for good measure is marriage but even that fails for many and for the hard core death must still decide …

  8. #DIE HARD!yo thinkng is miopic & realy backward, unprogressive & larks maturity. The political history of. Nevers Mumba is well documented & well known! To say the least its a disaster!Nevers is a selfish power hungry person and that is why he decided to abandon his church and join politics. He is a hypocret & a dictator who has brought nothing to the MMD and he is driving it very fast into political oblivion.Nevers has no heart for the MMD not even for Zambia because he is very selfish thats why he has no forging heart and has no time to discuss anything with his perceived political emenies in MMD.He expels members without even giving them a chance to air their views! This is wrong and unacceptable.Stop insulting people beause HIV is a condition anyone can have, including u.You very ignorant!!

  9. Derrick Chitala rebranded as Mbita Chitala is an example of a danerous hungry and failed politician!
Chitala the trecherous guy who betrayed his best friend Dean Mungomba (MHSRIP) to Chiluba on false allegations of a coup, is broke and Bitter (or Mbita) because everything he touches turns to dust.
Stay away from this guy who doesnt know where he is going and is delusional. Even flies do not listen to him but he still thinks he is a big brain when he just a skeleton of his earlier political life!
The best medicine for the BITTER Mbita is political oblivion which history is slowly confining him to!

  10. We want our party back. Well spoken Derrick we are behind you.
Nevers and Muhabi sholud go back where they came from or Join william Banda.
We have members in True Blue waiting!

  11. I am not a fan of Nevers Mumba but in all fairness Mbita Chitala is not making sense. I honestly believe he is indirectly saying I am a founder member of MMD and I am available. How can parties just be led by founder members, defeats the barest of logic. Sometimes you say sense, sometimes you can’t complete lost. What is the problem ,my brother.

  12. What a bellend, does he think the so called ‘founding members’ will live forever? And MMD can never have new members, what about people who were born before it was formed?

  13. The Logic does not add up and it is a clear act of discrimination, also then there is no need to recruit new members because Founder Members are there and new members cannot rise to positions of leadership. Secondly this argument may be what the NEC leaders against Dr Mumba have been using and not all the other statements they have been issuing which clearly is a power struggle. If they didn’t want new comers to lead then why did they even let Dr Mumba stand as Party President, it looks like there was deception by MMD during the last convention and it seems MMD has lost the name of being a Democratic party .

    • These wrangles in MMD are just making UPND become stronger and gain ground. MMD should not even try to compare itself against UPND because it is like comparing apples to oranges, UPND have not been in Govt and have no failures to be compared against. MMD has failed for the last 20 years , what grounds will the old faces use to convince Zambians who have lost complete hope in MMD as a result of the failures that caused them to be fired in 2011. Dr Mumba’s leadership was bringing back some hope in MMD now with the power struggles by Old faces trying to come back whom the Zambian people rejected not sure what will become of MMD.

  14. Is it ‘attributed to’ or ‘contributed to’? Ba LT please get your act together. Twanaka na imwe, ala!!

  15. No Derrick. Everything has its time. Seasons come and go and so does Grass grow and die. Let young people lead MMD. The party’s future lies in the likes of young people like James “Muhabi” Lungu and Nevers.

  16. My fellow MMD members, first of all, let s make a difference by not insulting each other. Mbita Chitala has not said anything out of place to warrant the insults hurled at him, I support what he is saying, i was one of the people that fought for the democracy and I support him saying some of the younger members should take advice from the older members for our party to survive. Yes nevers should be removed and the party will tick. He was never a MMD supporter and had his own party. He does not have the heart for MMD, so guys let s work together and wish our enemies a long life so they can see us bounce back. Remember a house divided cannot stand.Muhabi Lungu may be not liked by some, but listen to him talk and you will have a great respect for him when it comes to politics and we need him

  17. ba Chitala that means your party shouldn’t recruit! However Mumba is the wrong man for its Presidency

  18. MMD was founded as a mass movement, the people, students, labour movements, the church and so on. so no one man should claim as founders; that is why most of the political parties in Zambia today except for UNIP are a chip of the MMD; Remember Mr Mazoka came from MMD, so did the current President Mr MC Sata, Gen Christon Tembo FDD, Ms Nawakwi, Mulongoti, Mpombo, Ngande Magande,

  19. NM and RB might not be founding members of MMD but who brought them in the fold? Have the founding members been always there for MMD? And who do they intend making President of the Party? Honestly Chituwo and Kaingu are not presidential material. Kaingu, Chituwo, Dora and other senior leaders are supposed to play an advisory role instead instigating division. If your strategic plans are not working please go back to the round table and revisit your strategies.

  20. He is right. MMD has been hijacked by Gold Diggers looking for survival. The same people who were against MMD are now using it for survival.

Nevers called MMD a killing machine when paul tembo was killed. Dora siliya said so may negative things about MMD.

Chitala could not more spot on

  21. isn’t this the same Mbita who upon Mwanawasa’s death, saw an opportunity and together with Mulongoti were the first to start campaigning for RB (a 101% MMD outsider) to become president thus sidelining Magande. The economic mess that we are now facing under PF can be attributed to this fellow.
