Zambia U-17 thump USA in friendly

Share

Zambia Under-17 have turned to friendly matches after bowing out of the ongoing Dalle Nazioni Invitation Youth Football Tournament in Italy.

On Thursday afternoon Zambia beat USA 2-0 in their second friendly in Italy.

Goals from Enock Mwepu and Patson Daka guided the Chris Kaunda coached Zambian side to victory.
Zambia thumped Japan 3-1 in their first friendly on Wednesday- two days after being eliminated from the youth tournament.

Zambia kicked off their campaign at the tournament with a 2-0 defeat to Israel on 26 April before hosts Italy silenced the Junior Chipolopolo with an identical loss 24 hours later.

In their third and final group game, Zambia forced a 2-2 stalemate against Brazil on 30 April.

The team is currently preparing for the 2015 CAF Under-17 Cup qualifiers.

Zambia will face Botswana in July in the next round of the CAF Youth Cup qualifiers.

  1. You should have told us that they played a u15 team from the US. Am sure some of our boys are 20 years old

    • @Zinzi, what do you mean by OUR..
For example my team is USA, and am disappointed that Zambia can beat USA, the super power, self acclaimed best country on earth.

I am having trouble ascertaining whether this is a facetious post or not. Clearly, the original poster means that he/she is a Zambian who emigrated or a Canadian of Zambian descent when using the word “our”.

If you are genuinely disappointed, don’t be. We aren’t the “superpower” when it comes to soccer…hopefully someday, but certainly not now. We have lost 4 of the 5 games we played on this trip, but we also had the youngest team in each of those games. All of our opponents were U-16 and U-17 squads. At that young age, just 14/15, playing against 16 and 17 year old’s is a big step up in the technical, tactical and physical level of competition even though it’s only a year or two’s difference.

  2. It was going to be of great help had the boys been subjected to 2 or 3 friendlies before the tournament kick off.
