MMD president Nevers Mumba says the lack of state visits to Zambia by other presidents is hurting the country economically.

Dr Mumba said state visits by other presidents is not only meant for the presidents to interact but that presidents move with potential investors in their entourages whenever they visit other countries especially those from developed nations.

He observed that this is the longest period that a president has not visited Zambia in the history the country.

Dr. Mumba said those in government cheating themselves that it does not matter whether a president visits the nation should stop as state visits of other presidents raises the profile of the country which gives confidence to foreign investors to consider investing in the nation.

And Dr. Mumba has observed that presidents are scared of visiting the country because of the unpredictable behavior of the republican president.

[pullquote]The president of Malawi was invited to officiate at some event but she just acknowledged the invitation and opted to go some where else.[/pullquote]

The opposition leader said president Sata’s behavior is worrisome and calls on him to be careful with what he says when is in presence of other leaders as his careless remarks gives a negative impression of the country to other national leaders.

“Who want to visit a country when the president of that country insults anyone who is near him.

The president of Malawi was invited to officiate at some event but she just acknowledged the invitation and opted to go some where else.

Our president was invited by the Nambian president and when it was time for eating our president chose to abstain from the meal with an excuse that he can’t be having a banquet when his people are suffering, that is not how you behave among your fellow national leaders.”

He added other national leaders are scared of visiting Zambia because they don’t want to be embarrassed with some of the off cuff remarks of president Sata.

“Who would want to be on the receiving end of one Mr. Sata’s untimely comments? No leader wants to come here and be embarrassed by our president in presence of people,” Dr Mumba noted

  1. I don’t seem to see the collation between the article title and its content. How is Zambia being hurt economically as a result of this

    • @Amayama, are you serious or am I missing your point? You ask how Zambia is being hurt economically as a result of lack of visits by other Heads of State?? Answer:- Here is a copy-and-paste sentence from NM’s text above ….
“visits of other presidents raises the profile of the country which gives confidence to foreign investors to consider investing in the nation”…..
So, which part of this quote is difficult to correlate, or collate?
I am not a fan of MMD, but NM is spot on.

    • Amayama, the country is hate economicaly because the potential investments that may have resulted from foreign Presidential visits are not there.zambia is in the globle village, and as such, foreign and interrnational interactions especially at presidential level is very important for the deveploment in the recipient country.Sata unfortunately has not attracted his counter-part president to visit zambia

    • Zambian under sata and pf is rotten. Which head of state can meet a stinking party and government? Read between the lines. Those diplomats maybe showing their teeth to the pf government, but do you know the information they send to their presidents? Remove the pf mess from Zambia and you will see presidents coming to Zambia.

    • This is most s.tupi.d statement I have ever heard. How does economics tie in with Mugabe’s or Zuma’s visit to Zambia or is it Obama?

Ba Nevers you have embarrassed yourself enough. What type of family do you have that lets you flap your mouth aimlessly and not stop you?

    • THIS MAN ALSO CAN’T JUST THINK. MR MUMBA, STOP LIVING IN THE PAST. AFRICAN COUNTRIES DON’T NEED AID ANYMORE AND IN PARTICULAR, ZAMBIA. WE SHOULD GROW OUR ECONOMIES THROUGH ESTABLISHMENT OF MANUFACTURING AND FOOD AND MATERIAL PROCESSING INDUSTRIES. MR MUMBA YOU ARE JUST A WASTE OF SPACE IN THE OPPOSITION CAMP.

    • HOW MANY HEADS OF STATE HAVE VISITED CANADA, MALAYSIA, INDONESIA, LUXEMBURG, BOTSWANA IN THE LAST THREE YEARS AND WERE THESE VISITS FOR ECONOMIC PROMOTION OR FOR ORGANISED CONFERENCES OR MEETINGS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH TERROR OR FOR MILITARY OR OTHER AGENDAS? ZAMBIANS ARE A GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE WITH UNLIMITED CONTROVERSIES AND WHO DO NOT STOP AMAZING ME! GOVERNMENT BORROWS MONEY THROUGH BONDS FOR INVESTMENT IN INFRASTRUCTURE, THEY ARE UP CONDEMNING THE GOVT FOR OVER BORROWING AND HERE THEY ARE WANTING FOREIGN HEADS OF STATE (OFCOURSE FROM THE WESTERN WORLD) TO BRING MEN AND WOMEN WHO COULD BRING THE SAME DOLLAR FOR THE SAME WORKS! FOREIGN PRESIDENTS KNOW ZAMBIA BETTER THAN WE KNOW IT OURSELVES. THEY DO NOT NEED TO PHYSICALLY COME AND NEVERS MUMBA KNOWS THIS. PLEASE STOP MISLEADING PEOPLE!

    • Many spiritual lost Zambians have advised Dr Mumba to go back to the pulpit.I strongly urge such lost Zambians to read :2Samuel 7:8 and Ezekiel 34:23.Here God called David the Prophet/Shephard from looking after sheep to be Ruler(King or President) over Israel.A shephard is actually a Pastor.Zambia needs to be shepharded. There are so many things which have gone wrong.Especially, the spiritual Foundation of the Nation has been destroyed. If the Foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?-Ps.11:3.Wrong pipo are ruling, hence the dirty language going on in Zambia-Ps.12:1-8.God help us from these wicked and immoral pipo/Leadership.Zambia Shall Be Saved.

  2. people in zambia easily for get…. every is blaming mwanawasa for selling the kcm at a give away price……. i remember vividly when mwanawasa won 2011 election our economy was bad. Mazoka having lost election was not happy hence using his business connections caused anglo america to pull out from kcm and alot of jobs were at stake….infact people lost alot if jobs in CB. the government had no capacity of running the kcm mwanawasa begged the international community to help but no one was willing to help because of the corruption tag he inherited from mmd. if mazoka or rather upnd did not act selfishly as way of punishing CB people.. we wouldnt have been talking about 25m kcm
Upnd are also not happy with sata hence causing alot of strain to the country exchange rate using their riches…

    • I voted for PF and i know they will delieve in 5yrs
whatever is happening will kam to pass
for the upnd they still ve a long way to go
the oppositions will do better in lusaka n some few places but not in ru-areas
am seeing some pipo crying elections were rigged

    • I vividly remember Mwanawasa DIDNOT win the the election – chiluba played the electorate. election results were announced everywhere while northerners were still voting… and then they knew how many votes to rig… Why do you think Angloamerican left and Mwanawasa ended up begging the indians to take KCM?

    • I “vividly remember” Mwanawasa DIDNOT win the the election – chiluba played the electorate. election results were announced everywhere while northerners were still voting… and then they knew how many votes to rig… Why do you think Angloamerican left and Mwanawasa ended up begging the indians to take KCM?

    • Dr. Dre, I don’t gree with u. When Anglo put out, KCM was run for one year profitably under the leadership of Jordan Soko (ex CFO). Production numbers that were achieved that year have never been surpassed by KCM under Vedanta. There was no urgency to sell the company so cheaply. Just admit that your Levy and Magande messed up on this deal

  3. Meanwhile Dr Mumba is singing the foreign investors tune….talk about bad timing …really laughable!!

  4. There are number of things that can hurt our Economy one of them being as eluded to by DR Mumber. Government Polices, Political stability of a Nation etc… In a christian Nation having suicide boomers like what happened at the magistrate involving an OP officer becoming a suicide commando , which president would risk coming to zambia. Political violence by PF cards which investor would risk investing in such a country.

    • Sanity seems to have “eluded” you and your “Dr” Mumba who believes he has to keep up with this charade while his MMD is on fire!

  5. “The president of Malawi was invited to officiate at some event but she just acknowledged the invitation and opted to go some where else.”

She is a fast learner. And was she correct! She discovered early, thanks to her advisers, that Mr. Sata is not a normal person, evidenced by the fact not a single head of state has cared to visit the country. Face facts, they all think like we do, that Mr. Sata is insane (ishilu ilituntulu). The real culprits here are the Zambian voters, (also not normal) who saw a saviour in him and gave him the mandate to misgovern the nation. Where is he when everyone wants to hear what he has to say about KCM?

    • So u think by calling voters all these names n insults will make yo leader will elections i can assure u dat with dc attitude am seeing yo leader dying in opposition
zed is bigger then one trible????

    • @momart
I don’t know what you are talking about. But for your information, I haven’t got a leader. If any leader misgoverns the geographic location I hail from, that leader is going to be at the receiving end of every negative assumption.

    • @Wants shi ka wiso ekalishilu koswe iwe. You think insulting the President will win you votes? You smoke too much dry cow dung bangwele imwe.

    • @Suntwe
From your post you I gather you imagine I am a leader of a political party, you are mistaken. I am just commenting on the colossal stup!dity of your leader, Sata and his PF.

    • Spot on! Which serious world leaders want to associate with a man like Sata? We really made a huge mistake in 2011. We just have to correct this mess in 2016, otherwise there will be nothing left for us after the 10 years rule of PF.

  6. How many visits does Obama or Cameron make in year? Zambia does not need a tourist President like RB, who was almost every fortnight out of the country wasting tax payers money with a huge entourage of his family and friends. What the point of having embassies and ambassadors, they should be promoting the country! Malawi has more to lose than us,if its president turns down our neighborly friendship so be it because we have nothing to gain from Malawi as nation apart from economical refugees residing illegally in Zambia. Mumba is a self- centred prick, he wants everything to be about him not the MMD as a party, which is a mistake, he should be talking about what MMD as a party can do under his leadership if given the mandate. HH is better if only he can avoid taking rumours to be facts!

    • @MiG, if you live in USA as your flag suggests, then I am sure you are fully aware that Obama just returned from a grand tour of Countries in east Asia and along the pacific rim. I am also sure that you are aware that Obama has been to Britain a couple of times and even addressed the House of Parliament, and has been to nearly all major EU Countries. And he travels heavy and deals are made at different levels of his entourage. Video conferencing, skyping, etc.. come after.

And needless to say, there has been reciprocal visits from these Countries into the US. So, learn to stick to the truth.

  7. Dr Mumba, with all due respect, heads of states and other foreign dignitaries don’t travel like that any more. What do you think video conferencing is for? The bad economy is not just hurting Zambia, it’s equally hurting eastern and western countries. Only Africans love to travel to other parts of the world aimlessly when they can easily pick up the phone and save the tax payers a lot of money from unnecessary expenses.

    • Not really true, the same old way still works. Bottom line is no leader wants to visit Zambia and that is the issue here

  8. There is a reason why the name ‘Sata’ came about in Sata’s genealogy. I am reliably told in the olden days one’s character attracted a nickname. The nickname had the same relevance as today’s Curriculum Vitae – CV. And as time went on the nickname became the main name.

For example, ‘Sata’ comes from ‘uku sata’ which means ‘To talk carelessly, without thinking things through’. I challenge anyone opposed to this fact to ask an elder from Northern Province for clarification and you will be amazed. So. President Sata’s careless talk runs deep. No amount of therapy will uproot it. Fact.

    • Cactus you are right, but uku sata can also mean to desperate and hurriedly look for something you desperate need

  9. Ba Ntwenu, this kind of calibre you portray as a PF cadre is very saddening indeed.Surely you don’t see the logic in what Dr Mumba is saying about lack of investment in-flow in the country among other things due to lack of foreign and international visits by other Heads of State. The pipo that surround Sata if they think like you, then there’s no hope for this development in foreign investment Dr Mumba is talking about-sorry William.

  10. WHICH COUNTRY EVER DEVELOPED ECONOMICALLY BECAUSE FOREIGN PRESIDENTS VISITED IT? HAS ANY ONE CARRIED OUT A RANDOMISED CONTROLLED STUDY OR A COHORT STUDY OR EVEN A CROSS-SECTIONAL RESEARCH TO SHOW THAT SO MANY COUNTRIES WERE VISITED BY FOREIGN PRESIDENTS AND SO MANY WERE NOT VISITED BY FOREIGN PRESIDENTS. AND DURING DATA ANALYSIS FOUND THAT THE COUNTRIES THAT WERE VISITED BY FOREIGN PRESIDENTS ECONOMICALLY IMPROVED WHILE THOSE THAT WERE NOT VISITED CRUSHED DOWN ECONOMICALLY. BEARING IN MIND THAT CONFOUNDING FACTORS NEED TO BE CONTROLLED. AND THE DIFFERENCE MUST BE STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT AT (P=0.05). THAT IS WHAT WE NEED INSTEAD OF BLAH….BLAH….BLAH LIKE WOMEN ON THE STREETS COMING FROM BUYING TOMATOES FROM THE MARKET IN THE MORNING.

    • Oh,yes ,south Korea did benefit heavily from USA presidential visits,a lot of trade deals were signed.1960 Zambia was richer than south Korea but today Korea is a developed nation,Brazil is another example.its unfortunately how most of bloggers here who claim to live overseas don’t understand how a country benefit from presidential visits, and these are the kind of people who aspire our youths back home,Zambia will only develop if it’s citizens change our mentality, otherwise only mushrooming houses will be calling development.development should entail manufacturing industry, export produce, less borrowing, innovations, scientific and technological research, well equipped healthy centers, etc.Africa is lagging behind due to poor policies.in short mental shortfulness.

  11. The other time Dr Mumba complained that SATA was trotting more than RB hehehe
satires and fallacies will never remove PF and Sata bane
We know what we are doing better than MMD who sold this country after weakenning her economy

  12. ba mumba are you are you encouraging foreigners to buy our companies and we shall for ever earn minimum wage in this country and also be mistreated ? have you though of our future generation and gran-kids. are they forever going to be slaves for forieghners? THINK!

  13. Nevers is grasping at straws. Anything that can hurt the ruling party should be found and thrown at them. In other words opposition for the sake of opposition. There are plenty of things that the PF are doing wrong that any clever politician can hang on. Heads of State are not the vehicle for Foreign investors even a Grade 1 learning economics knows this.

  14. I am a stronger supporter of Dr Mumba he may have a point, Foreign investment is good but should be coupled with very strong laws to protect the Local investors and locals. Dr Mumba has what it takes to run the country based upon his character and education Masters in Public Policy from the accredited Regent University . He also needs to enroll in an Economics degree, that would add to his marketing himself as a competitive Presidential candidate. Financial/economic advisers are good in Govt it would be more beneficial for Presidents to offer subject Matter expertise and debate Economically with their advisers cause sometimes Financial and Economic advisers could be wrong .

    • Meant strong supporter, based upon his character, Political Experience and Education and Financial/economic advisers are good in Govt however it would be more beneficial.

    • Nevers Mumba is no different from Sata. He is too reckless (see the car he came with from Canada), and may turn out to be more of a dictator than Sata. See how he is flouting the MMD constitution just to save his ass. That man is a smooth criminal. He can’t run this country.

  15. Of course there are Presidents that have had no economics background and Dr Mumba can still make it however Dr Mumba should not settle for the status quo he should leave a major performance mark on Zambia by being highly competitive and highly performance driven.

  16. Nevers Mumba, you are spot on. It is so dry- no foreign of state visiting us. Do we still exist? Visits of heads of state at international level mean a lot.

  17. Which foreign leader would want to come where he or she is likely to be insulted or embarrassed in one way or other? Wasn’t former U.S. president George Bush heckled and made into a spectacled by our beloved president Sata, at the time the foreign dignitary was on a humanitarian mission in Zambia? Manners matter.

  18. Cant opposition politicians talk about Zambian politics without involving foreigners? Come on, we have been independent for 50 years and its time to move on with local skills if we are worthy of being called Zambians. Because of this same attitude of always singing to the international gallery we have of late been targeted with adverse reports that don’t even make any sense. One such report is the one that states that Zambian women are the biggest drinkers, leaving out their own women in the western world. All Zambians must be united on national issues though they differ on party manifestos. What about infrastructure development going on in the whole country. What are they saying? I really hate this kind of attitude because, it degrades us as a nation.

  19. Pastor Mumba, seems you have forgotten; this is what the bible says:

    Hebrews 13:17
    New International Version (NIV)
17 Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

Ii will be your turn one day and you’ll want thesame treatment.

    • Submission to righteous and right laws . Every Zambian has a right to speak up against unrighteousness and wrong laws and practices. When Dr Mumba comes in power he shall be held accountable by Zambians and Christians.

    • Dear misguided Christian, there is no mention of the Law in the verse above. Stop twisting the bible to suit your opinion lest you find yourself in hell. Read the verse again and understand it correctly. In any case don’t bite a bullet which is not aimed at you.

    • Authority is based on laws and rules, just like Authority is based on the word of God which are the rules and laws of God. God cannot no against his word and submission should never go against righteousness, right laws and practices and the word of God.

    • We all need to be like the Bereans to check every teaching if it is line with the word of God and we all need to rightly divide the word of God.

  20. I seem to agree with Doc. Rember how one George W Bush was embarrassed and accused of being one of our colonizers? George W tried to correct Ba Mudala that he is American not British, Ba Mudala snapped at him and said “I don’t want to argue with you.”

I mean where are we going?

    • PRESIDENT SATA MAY HAVE AND INDEED HAS PERSONAL SHORT-COMINGS BUT THAT IS THE PRESIDENT WE NOW HAVE AND WHEN HE MAKES A MISTAKE, PLEASE LET THAT MAKE US BE SORRY ABOUT IT BUT TO GIVE HIM THE REQUIRED SUPPORT TO WORK FOR AND UNITE THIS COUNTRY. WE CALLED MWANAWASA NAMES BUT HE TRIED TO DO ALL WHAT HE COULD FOR THIS COUNTRY AND WE NOW KNOW WHAT HE WAS CAPABLE OF. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO END TALKING ABOUT PERSONAL SHORT-COMINGS OF OUR NATIONAL LEADERS SUCH AS OUR PRESIDENTS? YOU MAY NOT LIKE WHAT PRESIDENT SATA IS AS AN INDIVIDUAL BUT LET US CRITICISE HIM ON THINGS HE IS DOING FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THIS COUNTRY – THERE, WE ARE ENTITLED AS CITIZENS AND WE EXPECT HIM TO LISTEN. HOW MANY OF OUR RELATIVES (WHO ALSO ARE LEADERS AT THAT LEVEL) HAVE PERSONAL SHORT-COMINGS THAT WE ARE VERY PROUD OF?

  21. No foreign leader wants to be seen associating with an old fashioned autocratic, undemocratic and easily irritable ill educated villager like Sata.

  22. “Our president was invited by the Nambian president and when it was time for eating our president chose to abstain from the meal with an excuse that he can’t be having a banquet when his people are suffering, that is not how you behave among your fellow national leaders.”

Nervous has got his fact’s wrong on this one. It’s the Botswana and not Namibian President who was humiliated by HEMCS antics.

  23. There we go. Every one including mumba makes mistakes. So what are the anti Sata bloggers saying? Come on bring it on we want to hear.

  24. For once I fully agree with Mumba and whoever fails to see the correlation between Sata’s mad behavior and our economic/political free-fall must be seriously demented. There is no doubt that the current Zambian president, one Michael Sata Ukwa Chilufya has serious psychiatric woes scarring away people from the country. I mean, does one surely need to be a Sangoma to see that Sata’s head is flowing with ‘masalamusi?”

  25. The next time Sata undresses in public “chintako Zangalewa” style, Bisas on this blog will claim there is nothing wrong with “ubwamba panse pantu efyo twa fyelwe”. You animals’s tribalism disgust all mankind.

  26. Bushe aba ba former pastor baliba fye normal. Nga ifi fine babeya imyemfu bushe ni style yaku American ghetto or ati bwa ?.

    • Dobo Man,there’s no such thing as Former Pastor.Pastoral Calling is not a career which you can easily change, stop or abandon. It’s a Vocation- spiritual calling from God and it’s not irrevocable/repentace-Romans11:29.One can work as a Medical Doctor or Police Officer, but if that person has been called he or she can still do the work of God.Their field of work becomes their world they can influence with the values of God.So Dr Mumba can still infuence the way politics are done in Zambia.Infact now he has a bigger platform than just talking to few church members-2Samuel7:8,Ezkiel34:23David was called from looking after sheep to be ruler/king or president over Israel(bigger platform).

  27. Zambians, mufimwena mukulomba fyonse!!Mwanya mu lefwa kunsala,ha,ha,ha.And you vile anti PF imbiciles, quit demonisin insultin Mr Sata, some of you bloggers fail to even run you grass thatched houses, atase………

  28. ”And Dr. Mumba has observed that presidents are scared of visiting the country because of the unpredictable behavior of the republican president”

  29. dr. Nevers Mumba is trying to justify his presidency, what else would he do if was not attacking PF, he has no farm, a business and no church to pastor. He is not different from Humphrey Siulapwa or Cosmo Mumba. Consider, HH, Milupi, Edith and Chipimo are all successful business persons and are in politics to serve.

We are looking for servants, we tired of parasites, and GOD will give us that leader.

  30. de trueth is when foreign president come in a country they make some bailateral tie /trade agreements in some or all business thats how a country grows economicaly.at times it is called trade pakage.
