THE Ministry of Labour and Social Security directed management of Armcor Security Company to settle the salaries owed to its workers.

The directives followed the reports that workers at the company were protesting over non-payment of salaries.

Ministry of Labour and Social Security Chief Planner for Press and Public Relations Mirriam Mukonde Zimba said yesterday that following the meeting, Armcor management assured the ministry that it would pay outstanding salaries to its workers by 23rd of May 2014

Ms Zimba said the ministry of Labour and Social Security directed that the payments should be implemented without fail as agreed in the meeting.

“Management of Armcor and three unions representing security guards were summoned for a meeting with a view to normalizing operations of the security firm particularly payment of salaries,” she said.

Three unions namely National Union for Safety and Asset Care Workers (NUSCAW), Zambia Union of Security Officers and Allied Workers (ZUSOAW) and the United National Union of Private Security Employees (UNUPSE) attended the tripartite meeting.

She said management informed the ministry that the challenges the company was facing were as a result of maladministration by the previous management which had led to the current cash flow problems which they were trying to resolve.

The two parties assured the ministry that they would go and address the workers and revert to the ministry for an update.

  1. Well done Ministry of Labour for timely intervention to ensure these workers get paid on time. By the way salary is not a privilege but an entitlement or simply a right to be paid as per agreement for the work appropriately done. Can someone also come to the intervention on behalf of pensioned senior citizens like myself, for three months now my monthly meagre pension has not been remitted. This is the first time in seven years that Public Pensions Fund have failed to remit my small ‘chicken-change’ but certainly entitled monthly pension. Please whoever is concerned or responsible help the flow of this little useful money to resume!

  2. Armcor is in shambles, Where is Gary going to get the money to pay his guards their salary I wonder.

  3. Most of Armcor guards have run away and has joined other companies like Andersons ,Night Hawks and Armsecure because they don’t pay good money and also not paid salaries for months.

  4. I was a consultant for Armcor for two years and an still waiting on payment from them – maybe the depatment of Labour can step in and ensure that their service providers are paid – I’ve been waiting 18 Months for payment.
Jan Paxton is the cause of Armcor’s demise!!!
