The much publicized official opening of the Heroes National Stadium yesterday flopped.
On Tuesday May 20, 2014 Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili told Journalists that President Michael Sata will officially open the stadium at which other Africa Freedom Day celebrations would take place.
Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili told a media briefing that the handover of the facility will coincide with the African Freedom Day celebrations.
Kambwili said all those that were due for awards on Africa Freedom Day would be awarded shortly after the opening ceremony.
The National Heroes Stadium is a 50, 000 capacity stadium and is one of the stadia Zambia wants to use for its 2019 Africa Cup bid.
However, Ministers who trekked to the stadium in anticipation for the official opening by the President only ended up being entertained to some cultural dances.

Don’t kubeba… So embarrassing!
That is PF for you my dear. They even Donchi Kubeba on each other. Anyway, over to you Dr Katema for you to swing your PR and Spin Doctor machine into overdrive motion. You have work to do Doc today. Your work is cut out for you.
He collapsed at Statehouse and thats why he could not go to the stadium. You Zambians need to pray for the presidents health. The people surrounding him are taking advantage of his weakeness. If you love your leader you will protect him from the evil men surrounding him.
Pa Kapendo……When is the first match pa kapendo
Charles Michael Mwango Chilufya Katongo Sata; I was once told people with so many names in some parts of the world might be a case of stolen identity. We had another one called Frederick Jacob Titus Kafupi Chiluba who was from Luapula but then if appeared was from Congo but again some one said he was from Kitwe/Kantolomba/Kapoto. Similarly, Charles Michael Mwango Chilufya Katongo Sata is known to be a mwachusa from Tanzania even though stories are that is from Chitulika in Mpika when others have said he was actually brought up in Katibunga.
Sata should have been undergoing this ‘whatever is eating him up’ in the privacy of his own home but God being the great God that he is has deliberately subjected him to this humiliation of appearing public with cameras all over so that even people can learn from him about what to say about people when they fall sick and that no one is really infallible.
Why should a president open a stadium! Even Armed Forces performing at the opening of a stadium sure! Napapa sana ine mwe!
This is the epitome of third world behavior
you will NEVER understand charles Sata even if you tried, this is the man who refused to attend his own son`s wedding only to rush to the wedding of mugabe`s daughter….shocking!
It was AFRICAN FREEDOM DAY,,,, in charles Katongo`s mind it means freeing prisoners NOT `opening` the Gabon disaster stadium
You’ve spoken again my brother! This would be funny if it was not tragic. Here we have a government which doesn’t what its members are upto. All we hear is 2016 Sata Nafuchi Nafuchi……really? When you can not even tell where the guy is or what he is up to. Do PF cadres even know who the dude is. Is he Michael Chilufya Sata as indicated on the 2011 ballot paper? Or is he Charles Mwango Katongo or in combination with MCS? We will never know as the guy is a congenital liar!
@Ndobo, I didn’t get it. So Sata never showed up at the official opening? When is his next case hearing, did anyone tell him that if he don’t show up it will be contempt-of-court and deserves to be sent to jail?
I knew it, i knew it!! This is insanity of the highest order!!!!!!!!!!! You have a non-functional head of state!
We told you that charlie sex Katongo will cause some drama, zambians get rid of that thing you call a president.
Tabalemona he will open it next Sunday he had a lot of things to do this Sunday so close it ba kabwili
A disasterous ceremony for Gabon disaster stadium. That disasterous misnormer of naming a stadium has come back to haunt Sata and Kambwili.
Thus Katonga Sata for you. You will walk alone.
Can somebody tell me what is the correct name of His Excellency, I want to include it in a question to my grade 9 students?
If you are actually referring to inept and incompetent village ***** hiding on Independence ave, the correct name is Mentally Challenged Swine.
katongo ,its chumbu mushololwa
At least the stadium is still there just like the way we have our chitimukulu and will be functional at a later
Useless minister, did not even communicate with the president and those involved with preparations for the travel of the president.
What we don’t know is the old man is too frail to have more than 3 public outings in a week he needs to recharge like a recharge Duracell battery.
I cant understand the dullness of some journalists. Why assume there might have been a miscommunication when it is in black and white that we have a patient in state house. The man is sick and I don’t now why he cant just step down before our economy collapses completely. Let us face facts. If the president who has access to the best medical services i the world can look like an ordinary sick patient in UTH ninshi vintu vavuta guys. In as much as we want him to live, things are not just ok for him, Levy even looked healthier before he died.
@Goncalves.
Really, come 2016 its Michael Chilufya Charles Mwango Katongo Sex Chumbu Mushololwa Sata nafuchi, nafuchi, senile candidate. With PF any thing is possible including hiding Sata’s death would not be strange to Zambians.
It’s donchi kubeba.
The absentee president will have in Zambia, we pay this oldman a 5 – figure dollar sum for doing absolutely nothing. ..that includes his empty tins he calls ministers like BUFFOON Kambwili.
In the nation’s interest just step down and retire…the man is too frail to lead a young emerging economy like ours.
As we used to say in the mid 90’s “it’s Gabon!”
…this is REAL Africa zoona, in this time and age…21st century watering the so called ‘modern’ stadium lawn using a hand held half inch hose pipe sure…???
I was expecting a better technology with embedded pipes and sprinklers…a tank and a booster pump with a complete automated irrigation system…..now this is what I term as disaster
No surprise that the presido did not show up…some of us had anticipated that……I wished it was possible to convince everyone to stay away next time the similar announcement is made…
Photo 1. Watering an international football pitch with a handheld hosepipe. ….that just sums it up in terms of the future of this pointless stadium.
Jay Jay you are spot on,these chaps are not serious, honestly watering the pitch with hosepipe……….my foot in this time and era sure Kambwili and your fellow useless tins!Am sore you are waiting for a donor country to donate some used irrigation system from UK…….just useless kaponyas running the country at the moment.
Watering a fifty thousand seater stadium with a horse pipe…..really? Stadium NOT ready Ba Kambwili. NOTE:
(1) There is water is called center pivot
(2) Sprinklers
(2) Under ground pipes that can be opened and water the turf
No guys, we can not water the grass in a 50 thousand seater stadium with a horse pipe….Stop it now and prepare yourselves very well.
Kambwili is a lunatic, lishilu bane. At least we have learnt not be fooled by promises.Donchi… pabwato,NEVER again !!!!
Our busy President has no time to waste with useless ministers.
So the so-called modern stadium has no embedded sprinklers to water the grass? Do we call this MODERN?
So the so-called modern stadium has no embedded sprinklers to water the grass? Do we call this MODERN
@Nkandu Wesu: It is only people with village mentality like you that expect the grass to grow on the “modern” stadium itself!!
In ultra modern and multi purpose stadiums like this one, the grass is grown and fertilised elsewhere and rolled on the stadium grounds before the events. It is even cheaper to use a grass carpet (artificial grass) like many clubs including Man U do! Have you ever been to Old Trafford?
There is no point of trying to cleverer than you really are. Anyway, empty tins like you always make so much noise that they even expose their own little knowledge!!
@chiyala – what he pointing out to you is that a stadium with such high price tag should at least be complimented by a modern underground pop-up sprinkler irrigation system. ..these are basics which are laid down way before the turf is rolled out.
@ Chilyata – Actually, Nkandu Wesu is right and you should direct your insults to yourself. A modern stadium ought to have a pop-up sprinkler system that is programmed to come on at various times and is remotely electronically controlled. I, too, was disappointed to see them watering the grass using hose pipes.
He ain`t gat no time for that. The king gat more important national matters to attend to.
Name one, just one.
Sata should have been undergoing this ‘whatever is eating him up’ in the privacy of his own home but God being the great God that he is has deliberately subjected him to this humiliation of appearing public with cameras all over so that even people can learn from him about what to say about people when they fall sick and that no one is really infallible.
yes it has flops due to his sickness
He didn´t want to witness where his funeral ceremony will be hosted. Even me I can´t grace such an occasion. But Now the question is, why not step down?!
Comments coming from hard core lunatics who have lost passion and have no empathy all the name of politics. Insulting the president with impunity is all they know. Wnzelu, dudelove, jay jay, dobo, etc think they own their lives. They think they are invincible and no one can put their breath to an end. They don’t know that there is God who is the owner of life. In as much as you wish the president ill and death, we are many who are praying for him. You battle is a lost one. You are a slave to him. Even our dear Heavenly Father decided to take our president, certainly your preferred candidate will never come close to winning the election. Who can vote for your candidate when you as his followers are lumpens and haters making your preferred candidate in the same shoes? Keep lying to yoselves
Xsay, I think you got the spelling of my name wrong.
Ati xsay, ukokwine na bu yo! As matter of I did not mispelt your name. You behave likes gay.
Hahaha! Tu pf cadre nato. Why ichisungu chimi shupila so? Ok mulantekunya briefly and with that type of english thats why you hate fwema yo. Awe wandepula!
Inferiority complex right there. Why do you need the President for the opening of a stadium to be successful? instead of hero worshipping, show the taxpayers if this thing has been value for money. LT should be reporting on all the things that delayed this project. Have they successfully implemented the access roads? Is the quality of the stadium up to standard? if not then call it a flop. Otherwise stop vandalising the stadium even before it hosts a single game.
fr33dom
They are the ones who told us that Sata would open the stadium why are you suprised when we exclaim dissapointment.
In that case the title should change to “President’s no show dissapoints people at the opening of the new stadium” otherwise the statement implies the stadium is a flop because the president did not show up.
MMD did the hard job of building that thing and these PF flops are failing to just open it. Failing to just make speeches to open it!
PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA CHARLES MICHEAL MWANGO CHILUFYA KATONGO SATA NON SHOW AT THE NEW STADIA
PLEASE OUR REPUBLIC PRESIDENT NAME ABOVE ISA UN WELL. BUT AS YOU CAN SEE FOR YOUR SELF THE USELESS PF MPS AND USELESS PF MINISTERS ARE HOLDING TO RANSOM SO THAT THEY CAN KEEP THEIR JOBS. FOR IF THEY LOVE THE PF PRESIDENT ANDTHE PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA. THEY SHOULD HAVE ADVISED HIM TO CALL FOR FRESH ELECTIONS BECAUSE HIS HEALTH IS FAILING HIM . YOU CAN DENY BUT THE APPEARANCE CAN EXPLAIN BY ITSELF. ITS APITY THAT THE VICE PRESIDENT CAN NOT TAKE OVER TO FINISH THE PF TERM. THAT IS WHY OF LATE YOU HAVE SEEN KABIMBA CRISS CROSSING THE PROVINCES POSITIONING HIMSELF IN PF. PF MEMBERS ARE TALKING ABOUT THIS IN PUBLIC. ANY FOR NOW i WISH SATA MICHEAL MWANGO CHILUFYA KATONGO CHARLES TO GET…
Kambwili couldn’t explain to the people that Sata can’t handle two commitments in one day, he is too sick ,hope people can advise the President about dropping that court case, failing to attend something like this, how in the world is he going to survive being grilled in court, he will be dead man afterwards
@chilyata! It is u who has exposed yo little knowledge! Who told u they have artificial surface at old trafford? For yo own inform uefa has banned the use artificial pitches in europe! So u never knew that modern stadias come with in built sprinklers! Don’t talk about something u don’t know u I.diot.

Ba LT more pictures of the stadium kaili,we want to see which one is better Stadia De Levy and this Mandevu one called Stade De Disaster.
Micheal Charles Katongo Chilufya Mwango Sata will surprise people tomorrow he will wake from slumber to go and officially open the stadium mark my words.Action Man of Drama
Zambia, we are still far on how do big events opening of that stadium should have been spectacular if it was planned nicely at least hoisting of soccer match with a big team would have made a big difference. I envy South Africa on how they host their big events we are still miles away from reality.
bwana Kabwili should Explain to the people of zambia what happened .Our president is sick let him rest .let him disolve paliament and call for elections now than wait for 2016 .God forgive PF for the desperation from mps like kabwali reporters follow him and ask him what happened . yaba katwishi nelesafye
I watched the investiture ceremony which was at state house on Sunday. I am not a doctor, but from my amateur observation, i saw that the president is not well. He looked frail, in somekind of pain and lacked concentration. I think that is why he did not go to open the Stadium.
I therefore would like to urge all my fellow Zambians to please pray for the president’s health. I echo Nevers Mumba’s sentiments that the president needs a long break. I recommend he goes to the Carribean to rest and to recuperate.
To my fellow PF members, it is time to start thinking of a proper succession plan. I can foresee that our president wont stand in 2016. The question is who can win an election for us? We are doing great for Zambia. We deserve another term.
