MINISTRY of Health permanent secretary Davy Chikamata says the construction of 650 health posts countrywide has reached an advanced stage.

Dr Chikamata said Government is on course to meet the deadline of 2016 to complete the construction of 650 health posts.

“These are prefabricated structures, materials will arrive in January from India so that the structures are done on time.

“The three Indian contractors have been working hard, they have done the slabs on the Copperbelt, Luapula, Eastern and Western provinces,’’ Dr Chikamata said.

He said once the slabs are completed, it will not take long for the contractors to complete construction of prefabricated structures.

He said the majority of the health posts will be built in rural areas.

Dr Chikamata said many areas in Zambia have big populations but do not have health facilities.

Dr Chikamata also said the health posts will help to improve health service delivery in far-flung areas.

He said with the construction of health posts, maternal mortality and infant mortality will be reduced and other health services will easily be accessed.

Dr Chikamata said construction of health posts started in April because Government delayed in starting certain contractual obligations.

“Construction of the health posts could only start after Exim Bank approved construction and that only started in January when advance payment was made,’’ Dr Chikamata said.

Construction of health posts is being done through a credit loan facility from Exim Bank of India.

    • January(when Exim Bank made the advance payment) to November is almost a YEAR. Where on earth do foundation slabs take a full YEAR to complete? Is this the sought of progress report that this PS think we deserve as a country? Does he understand that amount the 13 million Zambians to whom he’s giving this report, there are in fact millions that understand construction better than him? This is utter incompetence!

  2. Development has to continue despite the situation we are in right now. Build as many health posts as possible across the the country to improve health service delivery in far-flung areas.
In addition, improve the conditions of our major hospitals like UTH so that our leaders do not have to go and die in foreign countries. They have to go for treatment in our hospitals within Zambia. There is no honour in dying abroad but only goes to show that a country has use.less health facilities. It’s actually a shame to the international community.

  3. PS lies even during the period of mourning.I thought lies have died with the master of lies Mr.Sata.
we were told the centers will be constructed in 2012 and now shifting the time to 2015.You mean we have to do everything on Kalova ba Zambia.

In almost all the provinces no single slab has been done.Government of lies, for lies and continue telling lies even when the chief liar is no more.

  4. Prefab clinics without workers houses. We all know that this is how easily the PF have been sharing money with incompetent cadres

  5. Lusaka Times, do you live in Zambia? If you start putting up stories on your site which are of campaign nature for the PF, believe me you will lose credibility. Do you know that for a government to cheat people and leave them in more poverty than they were found is criminal. The fact that you the editors having three meals a day, should not cloud you that there are people who don’t know where the next meal will come from. Please remove this article, it falls within the scheduled PF cycle of lies.

  6. That guy cutting the ribbon and his bosses run to morning side clinic immediately they get a headache. What’s the use of 650 ill equipped and understaffed clinics when you spend more money on medical tourism than the cost on one such clinic.

  7. PS Ministry of Health giving a statemebt. I thought it was supposed to be PS Ministry of Community Development Mother and Child who charged with the responsibility througjh District Community Health Offices. Maythe PS is admiitting the confusion caused by PF by removing District Medical Offices from MoH. Its unimplementable on the ground. But for now PS for MCDMCH is in charge. Unless the other want to either campaign for his tribesmen or he is defying the order by the president
