The opposition Forum for Democracy and Development FDD President has called on the Electoral Commission of the Zambia to find alternative of transporting ballot papers if Defense Minister Edgar Lungu does not relinquish his position.
And Ms. Nawakwi has promised to embark on a vigorous campaign against corruption once put in office on 20th January.
Speaking when she addressed a rally at Nadalitsika School Ground in Chipata the opposition leader observed that Zambia Air Force ZAF which is used to air lift ballot papers to and from remote places in the country falls under Mr. Lungu hence increasing the risk of ballot papers and other electoral materials being compromised.
She explained that service chiefs are usually political appointees who would want to serve their jobs by helping Mr. Lungu to secure victory hence the need for either the Minister to resign or the commission finds alternative transport to avoid any suspicion from both the voters and candidates.
She also noted that elections must not only be free and fair but must be seen to have been so to avoid any conflicts after the results are announced.
“The continued stay in offices by Hon. Edgar Lungu who is also a candidate in this election compromises the impartiality that is expected of the departments under his ministries.
“The transportation of ballot papers by Zambia Air force which is under Hon. Edgar Lungu raises issues of security concerns over those ballots and other election materials in transit,” said Ms. Nawakwi.
She added “I’m a believer in the impartiality of the commission but ignoring the continued stay of one Edgar Lungu at the helm of the Ministries of Defence and Justice and at the same time participating in this election as a candidate could be a recipe for mistrust of the whole electoral process.”
“In the event that Hon. Edgar Lungu refuses to heed to the request for him to step aside, continued Ms. Nawakwi, we demand that your commission should find an alternative impartial transporter to air lift election materials that are scheduled for transportation by Zambia Air Force.”
And speaking at a public meeting in Luangeni Constituency,Ms. Nawakwi said will embark on a vigorous campaign against corruption when elected President on the 20th.
The opposition leader observed that corruption had remained a major obstacle to the country’s developmental agenda and the reason behind much of the misery suffering being experienced among citizens in the country especially those in rural areas.
Ms. Nawakwi said corruption is the cancer that continues to eat at the country’s developmental agenda and should be fought from all fronts if the country is to make positive strides in developing.
She said when voted into office she will through decentralization reduce the scourge which has taken root in the country’s society and seen to be normal.
She noted that the current governance system encourages corruption as it requires that almost everything should be done in lusaka by individuals who neither understands nor appreciate their needs and challenges.
She reiterated the need for a constitution that reduces the powers of the president saying “the current constitution has reposited so much powers in the president something which has rubbed off to people who surround him which makes them start thinking they are small presidents.”
Meanwhile the opposition leader said political figures endorsing presidential candidates in the coming election have not gone to her because they have understood her massage.
The opposition leader explained individuals who are busy endorsing their preferred candidates are doing so for selfish reasons and have clearly gotten her massage of decentralization which will cut down on personal deals from state house something she observed was their interest.
Ms. Nawakwi also repeated her massage of unity saying “people preaching tribalism should be ignored as all the people in the country are connected by the umbilical cord called Zambia.”
The opposition leader also received some defectors from the PF who were lead by Brenda Zulu who said they had ditched the ruling party due to unfulfilled promises.
Ms. Zulu said they felt cheated by the PF as whatever they had been promised remains a promise three years after helping the party assume office.

It brings to memory the 2008 Presidential Election which Michael Sata never lost fairly. It was strongly believed that that election had been rigged in favor of the incumbent, Rupiah Banda. TRANSPARENCY is key.

Hakainde Hichilema today January 10, 2015 got annoyed and warned Edgar Lungu after his supporters were assaulted by the ruling party – PF cadres in Lusaka, reports Zambian Eye Correspondent.
The cadres who were clad in the party’s regalia were beaten leaving them with scares on their faces and heads. The Cadres who were attacked were brought before cameras at HH’s rally in Mtendere.

Reacting to the violence, Hichilema who is the United Party for National Development (UPND) president warned the ruling party’s president Lungu that he will not be allowed to ascend to the presidency of Zambia using pangas
The emotionally touched opposition leader told the crowds that turned up for his rally that Lungu won the PF presidency using pangas and is trying to get the republican presidency using the same method. Hichilema vowed that he will not allow Lungu to get the presidency using pangas.

Hichilema explained that recently his supporters and officials have been attacked by thugs he says were supporters of Lungu. He cited the incidence in Shiwang’andu where a helicopter carrying UPND campaign team that included former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa, former Deputy of National Assembly who is the UPND National Chairperson Mutale Nalumango, MPs – Flex Mutati and Mucheleka was attacked sparking a riot in the area where the MP is a Deputy Minister in-charge of Internal Security. Hichilema said just this week he and his supporters were attacked at Mongu Airport.
The UPND leader charged the PF will not be allowed to butcher innocent Zambians who have a right belong to a political party of their choice. Hichilema said the PF should face him and not harass his supporters.

DEVELOPING STORY: UPND cadres have impounded two South African trucks reg numbers BJ 45 GP and FK B 711 FS belonging to African Cargo Managment they claim are carrying marked ballot papers. The trucks are parked at Lusaka Central Police as senior officals from UPND are attempting to have an on stop inspection of the trucks.

I entirely agree with you, though for me, my results are showing 71% EDGAR Lungu, 17% HH, 8% MMD rest shared.
The problem with Nawakwi is that she thinks she is more intelligent than many beautiful women in Zambia.
Nawakwi was in MMD Government for 20 years and did she ever entertain anyone talk about the constitution? She assumed various ministerial positions under the same constitution, so what is different today?
This same woman chooses to forget that during every general election, ballot boxes are airlifted by the Government whose President is the Chief of all defense forces, so why cry foul just for the sake of it?

How easy it is for PF cadres to jeer and heckle Nawakwi now, her only crime being her suggestion that ECZ takes a precautionary measure in order to ensure transparency in the forthcoming presidential election! She is not suggesting that Lungu resigns his ministerial positions. No. Rather, she is aptly suggesting that, since Mr. Lungu wants to retain his ministerial positions, then ECZ should undertake a measure to avert catastrophe .
Going by happenings, preceding and during the recent PF Convention in Kabwe, we should all, including PF’s most gullible cadres, know that, on any given day, Jihadist Lungu is capable of dribbling anybody; even if that meant committing a baleful crime. At the end of that Convention, PF as we then knew it, was gone, never to be the same!
Further, all honest Zambians must admit that prior to the party convention in Kabwe, PF’s able leadership had made serious and concerted effort designed to ensure transparency and a democratically sound process when voting at the Convention. It was all wasted effort. Mr. Lungu and his infamous Cartel broke all the barriers of law and order, climaxing in a vote by a mere show of hands – what an insult to democracy that was!

Now, Edgar Lungu is all humility and appeals to voters of all kinds and is able to bring himself to the level of all kinds of people in society including the poor uneducated with humbleness. That is because his Legal Education included people skills so he is able to empathise.
Where HHs unable to demonstrate any learning along the lines of Political, Sociological, Philosophical learning or experience, it is clear Edgar had plenty of that in his Legal studies.
That makes Edgar an all rounder who is the better of the two.

Actually Nawakwi is right on this one. Early in the campaign before filing of nominations and before the PF dubiously chose their candidates there were calls for Edgar Lungu to resign his position as an MP and thus relinquish his ministerial positions. I kinda recall they were ‘Constitutional’ calls (i.e. based on the constitution argument). I also recall the PF saying Lungu would oblige. So what happened since then?

Nawakwi has nothing to offer to Zambians. I cannot even grasp any sense in whatever she says. Featuring on a local radio in Chipata on saturday, she said that all governments had failed to develop Zambia since independence, forgetting that she was once Finance Minister. Now she talks of President Lungu to relinquish posts or ECZ to use other mode of transport. Does she understand the constitution? For example incumbent presidents are commanders of armed forces and use the same transport for campaigns as opposed to Hon. Lungu. We need credible women to stand and not those who grab other women’s husbands. Its not just about gender support but about integrity when one vies for the top job as presidency. The woman has nothing to offer. Zambian women, find someone who has a good record.
